"Everything's not lost"

Title: "Everything's not lost"
Pairing: DM/EW
Rating: PG
Summary: Dom fucks up.
AN: Title by Coldplay. Song in the fic is also by Coldplay. Thanks to my wonderful beta and friend, Ree. <3 You rock.

“You did what?!”

Dom looks away uneasily from the furious man in front of him.

“You fucked some other fucking guy?!”

“Well I was, er... Yea. I’m sorry. I don’t know why…” His last sentence is a mere whisper.

“Who is the fucker?” Elijah’s voice is harsh. Dom briefly considers making a joke about Elijah’s current over-use of the word ‘fuck’ but one quick glance at Elijah tells him that this is not the time or the place for a laugh. He has never seen Elijah like this before.

Dom is aware of the fact that eyes can turn into a darker shade, though he has never experienced it until he looks at Elijah. The light in his eyes seems to have vanished, they have turned into a much darker shade and even the shape of his eyes seems to have changed. Dom admires them for a second and notices that the darker blue makes Elijah look less innocent and more dangerous. A feeling of regret comes over him. What has he done?

The feeling grows stronger and he can hardly speak. Elijah shifts in front of him and a fragment of his scent blows in Dom’s direction. Tears are stinging in the corners of his eyes but he hastily pushes them away.

Pretending to be pissed off was a lot easier then showing his real emotions. It seems to him as if Elijah really has no clue of what this is all about. Ignoring Elijah’s question was also easier. “Well what the fuck can I do? It’s done and you should be happy I even told you.”

“Happy?! I can’t fucking believe you!” It’s more of a gasp then an actual sentence and Elijah storms out of the room, slamming the door shut.

Dom stares at a spot on the wall for several minutes, feeling blank. The conversation is on repeat in his head and when his cell rings, he is so far away that it takes him a second or two to actually figure out what’s making the noise.

“Hey mate! Uhm, I’m at the airport now, where are you?”

It‘s Billy.

“Shit! I forgot that I was going to pick you up,” Dom answers and starts looking for his car keys. He hears a loud sigh and then Billy starts laughing.

“Ha, I bet Elijah kept you busy, yea?”

Dom has been about to ask Billy what he finds so amusing but gets quiet as emotions roll over him. The room seems to spin and he sinks down on the couch. He has to bite his tongue to keep the sob from coming.

“Dom…?”

Billy has gone from laughing to sounding concerned in about two seconds and he repeats Dom’s name.

“Dom, are you ok?”

“I… we… Argh!”

Dom shakes his head and angrily wipes away the tears that are dangerously close to escaping from his eyes.

“Dom, what’s goin-“

Suddenly there is a high-pitched scream and then a lot of commotion on the other end of the phone. Billy starts sounding more distant.

“Oh, hello! Yes, I’m Billy Boyd. You want me to sign this? Yeah sure, hold on,”

His voice is back, loud and clear and caring and Scottish, in Dom’s ear and he quickly says, “Dom, stay where you are. I’ll get a cab.”

And with that Billy hangs up.

Dom sets the phone aside and grabs the remote to the cd player instead. He presses play and sighs with relief as Chris Martins voice fill the room. If there is one thing that can get his mind off of Elijah fucking Wood, it is music.

“Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming in tales
Heads are a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start…-”

The music comes to an abrupt ending as Dom, whose yoga teacher always tells him how balanced and non-violent you get from doing yoga, throws the remote into the cd player, desperate to make the music stop. When the room is completely silent, except for his unsteady breathing, the doorbell rings.

Dom opens the door and his heart is filled with warmth. Because right there is Billy, his best mate, his Pippin, and they hold each other close for a long time, just enjoying each other’s presence. And somehow, Dom knows that now that Billy’s here, everything will work out just fine, because there’s something special about Billy, something angelic and wise and when Billy’s laughter is in his ear he just relaxes and instantly feels better.

* * *

Two days later during breakfast, Elijah skims through the articles in the newspaper and flinches when he sees a big picture of Dominic at some he event that he too had been invited, but ignored going to. Dominic, who is standing next to Billy, is doing his normal pose, but he looks dead serious and is holding up his hand on which three small burns forms a triangle. Elijah closes his eyes and a shiver runs down his spine. The triangle had been a symbol of their love… He knows that Dom have burnt himself and can’t help but smile even though he feels a bit worried. He wishes he could’ve been there to stop Dom, to be there and tell him that such things weren’t necessary. Oh well… Dom has always such an exhibitionist!

Sighing deeply, he thinks about all the good times they’ve had and he wonders where everything went wrong? He regrets it now, that he just stormed out of there right after Dom had told him, but the pain was too much and he just couldn’t stand it. He kept wondering who it was, and why Dom had done such a stupid thing.

The tiny voices in his head are back and they keep telling him that Dom wasn’t just someone he was ‘the someone’. They keep repeating those two words and Elijah gets so mad because he knows that it’s true and still he denies it because what is he supposed to do if it is true? How will he deal with it?

And the tiny voices keep whispering it… over and over again…

He plays with the buttons on his cell phone, deep in thought. When he realizes that he has dialled Dom’s familiar numbers, it’s already too late and he hangs up just after the second ring.

* * *

The heavy techno beat fills the room, the base so loud that the floor is vibrating. Elijah is glad that he went, he’s been way too isolated for the past days. He’s seen Dom twice before and has been trying to avoid him on the dancefloor, but each time he sees him now, he seems to have moved a little closer. A pair of arms suddenly wraps around his waist and he spins around to look into a familiar pair of stormy eyes. Dominic. He raises an eyebrow in question as to why Dom is doing this, but all he receives as an answer is a smile and then Dom’s lost in the beat.

They dance together for a while, close but not too close, and Elijah enjoys the feeling of a body next to him. Sure, he’s a cuddly personality but since he and Dom fought he hasn’t gotten the amount of body contact that he has gotten used to.

When the beat slows down and Dom wraps his arms around Elijah, pulling him close, he immediately knows that it’s wrong. He knows that he has to pull away, and preferably punch Dom for being such a bastard. The tiny voices in Elijah’s head, that seems to have visited him a lot more frequently lately, tell him all of this but the increasing beat of his heart drowns them within seconds.

Dom’s hot breath is on his neck and without knowing it; Elijah tilts his head a tad bit more to the left, giving Dom more room to move. He can feel Dom’s breathing speeding up as he moves closer, softly pressing his lips on Elijah’s neck. Without any warning his tongue darts out of his mouth and traces Elijah’s neck all the way up to the ear before giving it a soft kiss. Elijah fights to keep his eyes open but soon gives up and closes his eyes, moaning not very quietly. He tries to cover it up with a cough but realizes that it’s useless as Dom press is teeth down on just the right spot on his earlobe, flicking his tongue a little.

Small moans escape his lips with every breath as Dom continues his treatment. The song comes to its ending and Elijah opens his eyes; just to meet Billy’s from across the room. The room stops spinning when the intense green meets the sparkling blue and he snaps back to reality, harshly pushing Dom away.

Dom’s eyes get a deep look of surprise and his body language changes from relaxed into defending in an instant as he crosses his arms over his chest.

“Why are you doing this, Dom?” Elijah asks. Whatever answer Dom gives is drowned in the loud music that’s pumping out of the speakers again. A quick glance in both directions confirms what Elijah suspected; quite a few people are watching them. He motions for Dom to follow him and they make their way through the room.

They get outside and Dom walks past him, hands shoved into his pockets and then he stops right in front of a bench, but he doesn’t sit down, so neither does Elijah. Instead he sigh’s and tries to make eye contact with Dom who keeps staring at the ground.

“Why did you do it, Dom? I just don’t get it… We had something good, didn’t we?”

Dom looks so tired all of a sudden, as if his courage just abandoned him and he sits down on the bench. Finally he looks at Elijah.

“You never told me that you loved me.”

Silence. Breathe in. Realization. Breathe out.

Elijah sits down next to Dominic, who is absently scraping his nail over a spot on the bench. He doesn’t quite know what to say and surprisingly enough; Dom is the one who speaks first.

Everything just flows out of him, like a stream of water and he tells Elijah that sometimes when Elijah said those precious words he would lit up but when he looked at Elijah, his eyes would be shifty and he would fiddle with something and the happiness would disappear just as quick. But then there were gestures; gestures that he sometimes believed meant more than words. Like crawling on all fours through a room just for a hug and a kiss on the hand and actually looking like that was the best part of the day.

And then he gets quiet and Elijah still doesn’t know what to say, but it seems to him as if he has just realized how much Dom means to him, how much he actually loves him. And it’s just a reflex at first, when he grabs Dom’s hand; it’s just to make it stop moving. And his thumb caresses Dom’s long fingers, lightly touching the burns that are glowing in the dim light. And it’s just a brief movement of Dom’s index finger and their fingers entwine and this time it’s Elijah who lifts Dom’s hand to his mouth, softly pressing his lips on it.

“Dom. Look at me.”

Their eyes meet.

“Did you do it just to make sure that I love you?” his words are soft, it’s both a question and a statement.

Dom nods. It would be hard to see because it’s just a quick movement of his head, but Elijah is intently watching.

He leans closer, caressing Dom’s chin with his free hand.

“I love you.”

Never has he said it with that much passion, and he feels lighter, almost weightless, when Dom finally smiles.

“Let’s go home.”

* * *

As Elijah walks out of Dom’s bedroom the following morning he feels as if he is glowing. He can’t get the cheeky smile off of his face so he stops trying on his way into the kitchen. Billy is already sitting there, sipping on his coffee. He seems to be lost in thoughts but as Elijah steps in, he immediately looks up and grins at him.

“Morning,” he says. Elijah nods a hello and scratches his head as he looks out the window. He turns towards Billy and is just about to ask him if there is any coffee left when he catches Billy staring at his stomach.

“Er… Billy?” he asks and panics for a second, thinking that there might be traces of lovemaking, but calms down as he looks down to see his pale stomach looking just like normal. Billy’s smile gets wider and wider as his eyes fixate on Elijah’s navel.

“I think they were right… It is actually huge,” he mutters.

“What?!”

“You know that convention in Sweden like a month ago?” Elijah nods, eager to hear what a convention in Sweden has to do with his navel. “Yeah, some girls asked me if a Swedish coin would fit into your navel and I think they were right. It’s huge, mate! We have to try it!”

Feeling rather doubtful, Elijah sits down on the stool on the side of the kitchen as Billy starts rummaging through the shelves, searching for something with a similar size and shape. With a delighted ‘yay’ he shows a cap from some sort of soda and hands it over to Elijah, looking very excited.

* * *

Blurry white, and then the strong sun shining right at him. Dom yawns, stretches and rolls around in his bed. He hears Billy laughing and feels a faint smell of coffee. He wraps the sheet around his waist, too lazy to pick up his jeans from the floor. Making his way towards the kitchen, he freezes as soon as he enters it. Billy is on his knees in front of Elijah and is looking rather desperate. In his right hand he’s holding a fork, which he is poking at the corners of Elijah’s navel.

Elijah looks up at Dom and for a moment their eyes share so much happiness, because last night Elijah kept repeating those three words when they were making love, and he meant it every single time and it just makes Dom so incredibly joyful.

“Okay, I think it’s some sort of vacuum,” Billy breaks the silence as he shifts a little. Then he notices that Dom is there and grins. “It’s stuck,” he says, pointing at the bright green cap that is neatly pressed into Elijah’s navel.

Dominic laughs all the way to the bathroom.

* * *

The rest of the day is spent in Dom’s apartment. Billy has gone out to meet some friends, but Elijah suspects that it was just an excuse to let him and Dom be by themselves. After some videogames, Chinese take-out and some beer, Elijah’s urge to get to touch Dominic is huge. He snuggles up behind him as he is cleaning up the dishes from breakfast, running his hand down Dom’s chest.

“I thought you’d never ask,” Dom mumbles as he turns around and wraps his arms around Elijah. He closes his eyes as Elijah presses his soft lips onto his, humming softly as they deepen their kiss. And then Elijah is kneeling over him, and he’s on the kitchen floor and has no idea how he got there. He’s being held down a little too hard, just the way he likes it. And Elijah is teasing, keeping his lips just out of reach for Dom and there’s fire in Dom’s eyes; he can feel it and Elijah can see it. When their lips meet the kiss is hungry, desperate, but it turns into the sweetest of kisses, leaving Dom breathless. Elijah gets up on his feet and smiles briefly at Dom before leaving him. And desperation fills Dom’s entire body, because now that he’s got Elijah again, when Elijah is his, he don’t want to let go again. Ever.

* * *

Dom sighs a little, letting the buttery cake, a leftover from last night’s dinner, melt on his tongue. He’s in bed, Elijah is next to him and most of the night is just a blurry mixture of pleasure and laughter and wanting and getting and making love. He feels all buttery inside too, this little fuzzy, happy feeling and he knows that if Elijah wakes up and finds out that Dom is staring on him, he will freak, but Dom just can’t tear his eyes away from Elijah, he just has to look at him for a while, just admire this beautiful face with those eyes so full of wisdom and lust.

He slips another piece of the cake inside his mouth, closing his eyes as the taste and texture fills his mind and then he misses Elijah, and opens his eyes again, smile growing wider as he chew’s. Suddenly Lijah’s eyes pop open and a pillow is smacked in Dom’s head, which (after a bit of coughing) leads to a huge pillow-fight followed by teasingly, playfully kissing.

And the rest of this day too is spent in bed and Dom is just fine with it, he doesn’t get restless even though he doesn’t do all the bazillion things he always does when he has a day off. He feels a inner calmness as long as he’s close to Elijah.

<3 I love this! It's so sweet. You have a few grammatical errors but nothing that detracted from your writing. Schmoop. Perfecto. :)

aw, it's nothing big. Just a few commas out of place or missing. I'm always impressed when someone is bilingual, or even more then that. I absolutly LOVED this piece.

Sorry for taking forever getting back to you, it's been like ages since i checked my mail :(

Awesomeness. Purely wonderful. It was angst and then sexy and then just gloriously sweet. You took me on a nice little ride there. Good work.
