Title: Dom's Eyes
Author: Amy (
queen_geek)
Rating: G, PG. Tame.
Pairing: Domlijah
Summary: Dom's always been told he has his father's eyes.
Author's Notes: Came to me while I was taking off my makeup. Wouldn't let me shut down my computer until it had been written. Why must all my drabbles be written after one A.M.? Thank God it wasn't a full-fledged story.
Dom’s always been told that he’s got his dad’s eyes, even though his dad’s were always grey and Dom’s seem to change with the weather and Elijah’s proximity. Still, as he touches the kohl liner to the outside edge of his lower lashes, he can see why his mum said that. His eyes have the same shape as Dad’s, and they crinkle at the corners the way his did, and there are pictures that have captured joy and laughter, and some that contain joy and tears, and many that show love as he looks in the direction of the man he calls Doodle when he wakes up next to him in the morning.
One eye edged in black, and Dom steps back to critique his handiwork. The line wobbles a little right under his pupil, and Dom sighs. There is a little crease in his skin there, and no matter how many times he lines his eyes, he always forgets to pull the skin taut right there. A Q-tip soaks up warm water and blots out the mistake; the other tip dries his skin, and Dom goes back to work. Half a minute later both eyes are rimmed in the darkest shade of midnight he could find at the 24-hour pharmacy at the end of the block. When he steps back to peruse again, he is satisfied. Sooty lashes issue forth from the unnatural crisp lines, and Dom wonders if maybe he should invest in a bit of mascara, just to try.
“Dom? I need to piss.” Elijah’s clear tenor shoots through the bathroom door, and Dom is woken from his reverie. Eyeliner is stashed in the same cup as his toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss, and he swings the door in.
“Morning, Doodle.”
Elijah’s pupils constrict against the sixty watts issuing forth from above the mirror. “Bright.” The word is almost a curse as he squints down and shuffles through the doorway. Dom begins brushing his teeth as Elijah relieves himself with the sigh of one whose bladder will now let him get on with the business of living. Flush, wash the hands, and as he reaches for the towel, his eyes catch Dom’s in the mirror. Turns, brushes a finger against Dom’s cheek, shows him the eyelash on the stubby tip. “Make a wish.” Dom closes his eyes, feels the corners crinkle, and breathes out carefully, managing to keep all the foam inside his mouth. Elijah smiles, brushes a kiss on his cheek and moves out into the hall. Stops in his tracks. “Your eyes look good.” Continues, and Dom checks one more time in the mirror. His eyes reflect back blue and iridescent with a mixture of love and joy that Dom had seen in his father’s eyes when he looked at his wife, his son. Smiles around the toothbrush, and watches the corners crinkle.
Maybe he does have his dad’s eyes, after all.

I adore when the words grab you in a stranglehold, and won't let you go until they wrangle their way to paper.
