"It's something I said
Or someone I know
Or you called me up
Maybe I wasn't home
Now everybody needs some time
And everybody knows
The rest of it's fine
And everybody knows now":The Dandy Warhols

Elijah had passed him on the street. He was sure it was him.

There wasn't anyone else that moved like that. That self-assured strut as if he owned the world. The easy glint in the overly-exposed eyes that were now always hidden behind mirrored glasses.

Billy was sure of it. As sure as he had ever been of anything.

His hand hovered over the phone, part of him wanting to call, part of him wanting to forget the other man.

He sighed and slumped against the wall.

The longing had faded only to be replaced with self-loathing and disgust over the fact that he still recalled Lij's phone number.

He was lying if he didn't miss him.

Didn't want him to share his bed and tease him over breakfast.

Didn't want him to fill up his world like he had done for nearly five years.

He closed his eyes, but the memories kept playing, as if in a static loop meant to punish him for breaking away.

He smiled ruefully when he felt the tears trickling through his lashes to roll down his face and stain his scarred arms and hands.

Billy let out a sound that was a cross between a sob and a hoarse laugh before he stood up and walked over to his window.

Edmonton was waiting for him, cold and forbidding. Almost like a newer version of Glasgow.

He had to smile at that thought. At least he was gonna be miserable in semi-familiar surroundings.

"God, you're pathetic." He muttered before moving away from the phone and into the kitchen, where he put a kettle on for tea.

He stood in the doorway, waiting, willing his mind to go blank and forget all the emotions that surged up with that casual almost-meeting.

Maybe he was running away from that spectre by doing that, but right now Billy didn't have enough strength to care.

He sighed deeply and concentrated so hard on the pattern of the linoleum in the kitchen that he didn't notice the hands until they were around him.

Billy let out a small squeak when he was forcefully pulled backwards into a warm chest.

"Miss me?" Dom whispered, nipping at his ear with cold lips.

"Yeah." Billy replied, shivering slightly at his touch.

Dom laughed softly.

"Good to know. Guess who I ran into?" Dom asked, turning Billy around and staring deeply into his eyes.

"Who?"

"Lij. Isn't that fucken weird?"

Billy's throat closed up a bit at this, but he only nodded in reply.

"Yeah...I kind of miss him, but it's not the same anymore between me and him. How bout you and him?"

Dom asked as he shucked off his heavy winter coat and walked over the stove.

"We used to be friends" He replied softly.

Dom nodded.

"I wonder why it stopped."

Billy had no answer.

He didn't know.

Or rather, he didn't want to remember.

End.
