Orlando stood looking around the market nervously. He was scared. Really, really, really scared. He had been kidnapped and brought here by force and now was being sold. Sold. Freaking sold, like a piece of livestock or a pet. He watched as the not-so-pretty girls and the scrawny boys and children went first. Then the strong, tough men who could do the hard chores, followed by the strong girls for hard chores and those were followed by the young pretty girls that could read and write, they were for secretary purposes or housemaids. Then came the rest of the lot, who the slave traders thought would sell best.

Orlando was shoved on the platform, and he saw him almost immediately. He was gorgeous and looked well, rich. Orlando watched as the man looked over him and listened to the slave trader giving his description. It was all Orlando could do from getting an annoyed look when he was called a "pretty boy". Orlando hung his head shyly, forcing himself to look away from the guy.

(---)

Dominic stared at each of the slaves that went by, none of them anything he was looking for. Then he saw him. He looked around Dominic's age. Twenty-seven. Dominic thought for a minute and smiled as the man, clearly not a boy, turned his head down looking away from him. He almost laughed at the flash of annoyance flashed through the man's eyes when he was called "pretty". Dominic couldn’t help but think, "Oh, he is pretty."

Dominic went into a bidding war with another man who was there, finally buying the man for several thousand dollars. Dominic grinned and went to pay as one of the slave traders dragged Orlando off the platform. Dominic wrote the check and handed it to the man taking the money and walked over, papers in tow, to collect Orlando.

Orlando was pulled out of the pin by the slave trader and the metal chains were removed and replaced with leather cuffs that had a small chain between them, the same was put on his ankles. Dominic looked at him, eyebrow arched and then smiled. Orlando stared at the man who had just bought him as if he were a stray dog. He had startlingly blue-gray eyes. Orlando almost felt…comfortable near him.

Dominic finally spoke. "Come with me, Orlando."

Orlando followed him, Dominic holding the chain that was attached to the chain between the cuffs. He didn’t pull hard, just enough to guide the man in his footsteps. Dominic came to a beautiful town house and Orlando stared at it. This was a great part of town. He must be…loaded. Orlando let him lead him in and looked around the house.

A little girl was stretched out on the floor in a pair of jeans and a shirt flipping through a book. A lady was sitting in a chair watching her. The lady was clearly her nanny. Dominic smiled at the little girl and took Orlando past the room quickly. Dominic took the chains and cuffs off of Orlando and smiled at him. "Sit down, Orlando."

Orlando sat down, nervously. Dominic looked at the cook who came into the room. Dominic smiled at him. "Charles, could you make some food for Orlando? He’s come to stay with us!"

Charles smiled. "Sure thing, Dominic."

Orlando blinked several times in rapid succession. Did that servant just call the master by his first name? Dominic turned back to Orlando and chuckled at the completely bewildered. Dominic leaned against the table. "Orlando, I don’t like being called ‘sir’ or ‘mister’ or any other wanker terms like that." He smiled affectionately. "I like being called Dominic by my servants. Note that I said servants, not slaves. You’re free to leave anytime you want and free to come back anytime you want. You’ll have work to do and you get pay."

Dominic handed Orlando his papers. "Everything at the trade was me putting on a show, everyone knows what I do with the servants I buy, but they keep their mouths shut about it. Money does that to people."

Orlando was still confused. Dominic laughed and pushed the beautiful curls on Orlandos’ hair and played with them. "How about I have Bianca draw you a hot bath, and we’ll get you cleaned up and in some fresh clothes?"

Orlando nodded. "But…um…Dominic?"

"Yes, Orlando?"

"Why did you buy me?"

Dominic grinned and leaned close, whispering in Orlandos ear. "Because you’re pretty."

Orlando turned red and looked away. Dominic went and got Bianca. Orlando followed the lady who had been in the living room with the small girl upstairs and to the bathroom.

(---)

Orlando came down thirty minutes later, clean and in fresh clothes. Dominic watched him like a lion watching a gazelle, quietly and patiently, waiting to strike. Orlando sat down at the table when Dominic told him to. Dominic spoke a few minutes later. "Lilly! Come here, darling!"

The little girl came trotting in as fast as her little legs could carry her and crawled into Dominic's lap. "What is it, Daddy?"

"I want you to meet Orlando. He’s one of the new servants."

Lilly turned and smiled at Orlando. Her eyes were the same shocking blue-gray as Dominic's and her hair was a mess of long blonde curls. "Hello, Orlando."

Orlando smiled. "Hello, Lilly"

She smiled at him and looked back at her father. "Can I go back to playing with my dolls?"

"Yes, you can, sweetie. Bedtime in half an hour."

"Okay, Daddy."

She got out of his lap and was half way out of the room when Dominic yelled. "Hey!"

She turned very slowly. "Yes, Daddy?"

"Where is my kiss?"

"But I kissed you this morning!"

She stomped over in a mock huff and kissed her father. He grinned and watched her leave the room before turning back to Orlando. "My wife…died when she was little. So, I’ve been left taking care of her and Bianca helps…"

Orlando nodded, not knowing what to say. Dominic sighed and watched as Orlando tore into the food the moment it was set in front of him. Charles laughed and went to work cleaning up. Several minutes later when Orlando was done, he looked at Dominic apologetically. "Sorry, S…Dominic."

"You can call me Dom."

"Okay…Dom."

"I bet you want to know what your chores are, don’t you?"

Orlando nodded. "I’d like to know, please…"

"You will be my personal assistant, in other words. You’ll wait on me, run errands for me and drive me places. Can you handle that?"

Orlando nodded. "Yes…Dom."

Dominic smiled. "Good. C’mon, I’ll show you to your room."

Dominic led Orlando upstairs and led him into a room that was next to his, even connected by a door. "This used to be Lilly's nursery, but she grew out of it, and I gave her a better room. It’s been redone, and it should suit you fine. This door, between our rooms, is never to be shut."

Orlando nodded. "Um, Dom? You said…pay?"

"Oh! Of course, I forgot." He smiled, kindly. "Of course you’ll be wanting to save up get out of here as soon as possible, like the all do. You’ll be getting 100 a week."

Orlando snarled at the offer. Dominic laughed. "Sorry, I have four servants and you’re all expensive to buy, much less pay."

Orlando bit his lip. "I’d feel bad if I didn’t work off what you paid for me…"

"We’ll talk about that later, Orlando. You need sleep."

Orlando nodded and looked at the bed and back to Dominic. Dominic had gotten closer. He smiled. "Orlando?"

"Yes?"

"You afraid of me?"

"No."

"Good. I won’t hurt you."

Orlando nodded and sat down on the bed, watching as Dominic stepped closer. He leaned down and kissed Orlando gently on the mouth. He smiled. "I’ve been wanting to do that from the moment I saw you…"

Okay, this is completely off topic, but I just noticed this: "Lacy likes boys who like boys"

You do realize that for the next 2 hours I'll be singing "I like boys." "Boys like me." "We'll see." over and over and over and over.

Don't you hate that? When instead of a whole song getting stuck in your head it's just a few lines? *sigh* Guess I'll have to put in RENT just to get it out of my head. Oh, the horror! Oh, the travesty! Oh, the... wait, it's already in the CD player.

LOL.

Thanks for putting up with the rant.

Love,
Julie-Rae
