Pairing: Domlijah

Disclaimer: I don’t make claims on anyone’s sexuality, it isn’t polite after all.
Summary: Songfic, Soco Amaretto Lime by Brand New. Angst, of course. I really need to start writing fluff again.
Feedback: I know you’re sick of me; I’m an angst producing machine. But feedback is appreciated.
Elijah never understood why it was so easy for everyone to walk away from him. Or why the calendar swung violently back and forth and eventually fell after Dom slammed the door. And why he never bothered to pick it up and put it back in its place. Nothing could go back in place without Dom.
Dom never understood why he didn’t tell Elijah the real reason why he left. Or why he slammed the door so hard. And why he didn’t turn back. He couldn’t go back, not yet. The world wasn’t ready.
Passed out on the overpass
Sunday best and broken glass
Broken down from the bikes and bars
Suspended like spirits over speeding cars
You and me were kings over the parkway tonight
And tonight will go on forever while we
walk around this town like we own the streets
and stay awake through summer like we own the heat
Singing "everybody wake up it's time to get down"
everybody, everybody wake up its time to get down
And when I pass the bottle back to Pete
on the overpass tonight, I bet we laugh
It was a cool night in New Zealand and the road was quiet. Dominic and Elijah lay on the hood of a car, drinking.
“Dom, how many stars do you think there are?”
“None. They’re an illusion we create.”
“Wow, that was deep.”
“I’d like to thank Jack Daniels; I couldn’t have done it without him.”
“Yeah well, you’re hogging it. Share.”
“Elijah?”
“Yeah, Dom?”
“There’s only one star. You.”
Soft laughs. Drunken kisses.
I'm gonna stay eighteen forever
So we can stay like this forever
And we'll never miss a party
cause we keep them going constantly
And we'll never have to listen
to anyone about anything
cause it's all been done and it's all been said
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get
The light filtered in from under the bedroom door, casting a light onto the pale figure on the floor. Elijah clung to the pillow the way he had clung to the memories of New Zealand. He wanted to relive those moments ever day. He would give anything to go back. He wanted to rewind his life and pause it on the moment he met Dom.
They were naïve kids in New Zealand, and Dom knew it. They had believed the world was ready for this relationship. They thought it was strong enough to withstand the paparazzi and questions of why they were so close. Dom knew their relationship was strong enough to survive, but he couldn’t let it. They weren’t kids anymore. The world didn’t live by their rules.
The hell out of this town
Find some conversation
The low fuel lights been on for days
It doesn't mean anything
I've got another 500 another 500 miles
before we shut this engine down,
we shut it down
The fairy tale ended after they left New Zealand. They lived together and Elijah had believed things were fine, until Dom left. Dom pulled up his jeans after a night of love making and began to gather his things. Soco Amaretto Lime was playing. The sun was shining. It was a beautiful day. It was a cheesy romantic movie. The song to their life was playing as Dom would leave. Dom was like that. He waited till the picture perfect day, the perfect setting for walking away. He’d grab his thing pretending he didn’t see the expression on Elijah’s face. Pretending he didn’t want to stay. Convincing himself that “We’ve changed” was a good enough excuse for both of them.
you're just jealous cause I'm young and in love
Eighteen forever
your stomachs filled up but you're starved for conversation
So we can stay like this forever
you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed
And we'll never miss a party
and your tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over
cause we keep them going constantly
you're just jealous cause I'm young and in love
And we'll never have to listen
your stomachs filled up but you're starved for conversation
to anyone about anything cause it's all been done
you're spending all your nights growing old in your bed
and it's all been said
and you're tearin up your photos cause you wanna forget... it's over
we're the coolest kids and we take what we can get
And all the mixed CDs they exchanged would be broken in half and thrown across the room. Knocking down a picture frame. Shattering the glass holding in a photo of Dominic and Elijah. When the glass broke, the photo fell. No one would pick it up.
And a star would fade.
And a grown man would weep on a bus headed across the country.
And the song wouldn’t stop playing.
Dom knew the world couldn’t understand. He tried to save Elijah and his career, but ruined him instead. There were too many bored soccer moms on street corners protesting love between two people for them to survive. Dominic wanted Elijah to be loved in this world, but instead he took away the only love Elijah had ever wanted. Dom knew it wasn’t his and Elijah’s time yet. He didn’t explain to Elijah why he left, because Dom was just like that. He didn’t want to explain to Elijah why he was trying to save him; he needed Elijah to realize it himself. He needed Elijah to see that his love was so strong for him that he was willing to give it all up. The world was too ignorant. The world was too full of hate. They couldn’t and wouldn’t understand.
