Sunset

Viggo sat outside on the steps, watching the sun as it sunk into nothing behind silhouetted hills. He had a notebook in his lap, a pencil between his fingers, and nothing to do with them. He stared at the way the colors were fighting and blending, engaged in an artist's battle before surrendering to the night, leaving nothing but darkness.

As he sat there, he saw a figure emerge from the trees off on the side of the house. The shadow stood on the edge of the hill, appearing to watch the melting sun as well. The person was fairly tall, thin, and long-limbed. Orlando. Viggo marveled at the way he could still look tight with energy even when he was standing perfectly still. He carried all this expression in the way he was holding himself, and Viggo felt as though he could read him, even if he was nothing but a silhouette in the distance.

Then another figure came out from the other direction. Another shadow walking slowly towards the first, pace set but calm, determined but not harsh. When it reached Orlando, Viggo was able to see the shape of his face better, and saw the dips and swells of eyes, nose, and lips that his pages knew too well. Dominic. He stood still next to Orlando for a moment, no telltale movement to show if he spoke, none of the gesturing, just silence.

It was getting harder to see the boys in the distance; the fiery reds and oranges that had been illuminating them were fading away to blues and blacks. Viggo had to watch carefully to see that the bodies had turned slightly, and that arms had linked behind backs, making the gap between them narrow, only a sliver visible of what lay beyond. The small movements had been subtle, easy to miss without careful eyes.

But the next movement didn't pass Viggo by. He knew the two shapes too well to miss the dip of one head, the rise of another, the way their bodies gently melted into each other like the sun and the sky. And after all his careful watching he was able to look away, knowing that this sunset wasn't meant for him.

I enjoyed this, especially the imagery. I haven't seen much of it. This was gorgeous. :)

Lovely.

He knew the two shapes too well to miss the dip of one head, the rise of another, the way their bodies gently melted into each other like the sun and the sky.

I love this sentence so much. Want to wrap it up and take it home or something. Just...so beautifully perfect. Subtle.

"And after all his careful watching he was able to look away, knowing that this sunset wasn't meant for him." couldn't remember the code for italics...anyway, that was my favorite line. i love steamy sex, but subtly is great too. awesome.
