Outside the windows it was black, city lights glittering, nearly midnight.

“Did you want to sing?” Viggo’s voice was dryly amused as he handed Elijah a champagne flute. Sat down beside him on Elijah’s immense new sofa, still smelling of shop-new leather.

“It’s a stupid song,” Elijah said. “No one knows the words.”

“Old long ago,” Viggo replied, raising his glass as the seconds ticked down. “A toast to times past.”

Elijah touched the rim of his glass to Viggo’s. “I’d rather toast to times present.” Countdown in the background.

The champagne was dry on his tongue. Viggo wasn’t.
