Elijah smashed the back of his head roughly against the cold steel of the bathroom stall with a sharp intake of breath.

A jolt of pain shot down Elijah’s spin and he bit down on his tongue to hold back a cry.

The taste of copper flooded his mouth and mixed with the lingering taste of vodka and cranberries.

Fuck.

He felt his body go limp as he allowed himself to slide down the wall until he was sitting on the yellow tile floor.

Elijah heard breathing outside the partially closed stall door.

He bit down harder on his tongue, drawing more blood.

“Elijah?” an accented voice asked softly outside the door. Elijah didn’t move, letting the silence echo. “It’s me,” they continued, although the comment was unneeded. Elijah knew it was Dom. He had known it was him from before the first word, before the first breath.

Elijah had known it was Dom with the first footstep he had taken into the bathroom.

The stall door was pushed completely open and Elijah looked up at Dom, one hand still on the door and no steps closer to him. A million words were exchanged when there eyes met yet a million more were torn away when Elijah diverted his gaze.

“You okay, love?” Dom asked, finally kneeling down to Elijah’s level, “The boys were worried you had a bit to much to drink. You American’s just can’t hold your liquor.”

Elijah spit red into the toilet.

A look of concern flashed across Dom’s face as Elijah ran his tongue over his teeth, dancing with the idea of biting down again.

He was already missing the taste of copper against his tongue.

It wasn’t that he was getting some twisted pleasure out of it.

This wasn’t about pleasure, it was about pain.

Something different that would distract him from the suffering that was slowly killing him from the inside out.

Even if it was only for a moment.

“Lij?” Dom whispered, his hand reaching out towards him.

Elijah bit down hard.

He jerked away and Dom pulled his hand back.

“You know, it’s really hard having a conversation with a person that won’t talk,” Dom joked, obviously trying to lighten the situation.

Elijah spit more blood into the toilet again, watching as the water turned to a darker red.

“For the love of God, stop doing that!” Dom yelled, a tint of fear in his voice.

His voice echoed off the wall and finally Elijah let his eyes reconnect with Dom’s.

He still said nothing.

“I’m not gonna leave until you talk to me,” Dom stubbornly stated. He crossed his arms and leaned against the opposite wall to show his determination.

Then there was only silence.

“Why is it never me?” Elijah finally whispered, his tongue sore and bruised from the abuse he had inflicted on himself. Dom’s head snapped to face Elijah’s.

“What?” he asked, confused.

“Why is it never me?” Elijah repeated, trying hard not to let the tears well up in his eyes. “It’s always Orlando or Viggo or….”

“What the fuck are you talking about, Elijah?” Dom demanded, running his hand through his hair.

“It’s never me!” he yelled.

Elijah threw his head back causing a sickening thud as his head came in contact with the metal wall again.

His vision blurred as pain rocked his body. He closed his eyes, savoring the moments of nothing but this primal feeling. But when he opened his eyes he was met with Dom’s face inches away, looking scared and helpless as Elijah felt at that moment.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Dom whispered, his hands cradling Elijah’s face.

“You never kiss me,” Elijah answered, letting his eyes flutter shut. “I want you to kiss me.”

“What?” Dom’s voice was soft and distant.

“I know it wouldn’t mean anything but just to have that moment…” Elijah trailed off, "Just to know what it's like."

He let his breathing fall into a rhythm with the throbbing of his brain.

Suddenly Elijah felt lips press against his and Dom’s body shifted so more of his wait was pressing down onto Elijah’s.

The kiss was chaste, soft and sweet and beautiful in a way Elijah couldn’t have imagined.

Then Dom pulled away.

Elijah didn’t open his eyes until he knew Dom was gone and he was alone in the stall again.

Elijah took a deep breath and bit down on his tongue again.

Ooo. Love that. Very different. Good to read something with an out of the ordinary touch...

And concise :) I'd love to read more, though that all works perfectly as is. I'm just greedy ;)

It's different and painful. And I have to say, I like it that Dom and Elijah don't just end up together with Dom thinking "I'm so glad he finally made me realize my feelings, etc, etc". Sometimes it's nice when things don't tie up all neat and tidy in the end.
