Pairings: Dom/Billy; Billy/Ali; Dom/Evangeline
Warnings: I mess with timelines a bit. Only a bit.
Summary: Dom and Billy are just friends aren't they? So it's fine.
Notes: Hi everybody :-) I'm new to this community but I'm not new to this fandom or to slash. I've been around since the early days but mosty lurking in the background. I hope you like my first fic offering. Feedback is always appreciated.
It’s Fine
You know you have nothing to worry about. Billy’s never tried to hide it. He told you. He was honest from the very beginning about his relationship with Dominic.
You know that they’re friends; best friends – well, you suppose they’re more like brothers really. You know that they share a unique bond; a bond that will never be broken.
Their friendship grew from a seed that was planted years before they even met, under blue New Zealand skies. The seed was fed by early morning sunrises; white sandy beaches; endless green countryside and the vast rolling expanse of the ocean. Their bond was forged in Middle Earth, in toil; in fake blood; real sweat and on occasion, even more real tears.
How can you ever hope to have a share in that?
They are part of a Fellowship; but their bond is deeper – stronger, even than that. You know that they love each other, Billy and Dominic do, but you also know that Billy means it when he says that he loves you and that he and Dominic are just good friends.
You know that it’s true. If they were more than friends, then everything would be different. Billy and Dominic wouldn’t be living on separate continents. They’d have stayed together after filming; Billy would have followed Dominic to Los Angeles or Dominic would’ve settled here... that’s what would’ve happened – but it didn’t. Billy is here with you, in the home that you share and Dominic is hundreds of miles away.
Billy never asked Dominic to stay; Dominic never asked Billy to go. So that proves it. Billy and Dominic are just good friends. They’re best friends. And that is absolutely fine.
It’s fine that Billy phones Dominic almost every day. It’s fine. You know that they must miss each other after living in each other’s pockets for so long. There’s nothing wrong with that is there?
Billy never tries to hide their conversations from you. You can always hear every word his end. They’re just reminiscing...
‘Do you remember the time at Viggo’s house...?’
‘That time Elijah and Sean...’
And catching up on the gossip...
‘Have you heard that Orlando’s got the part in that new Johnny Depp film, the lucky wanker?’
You’re absolutely fine with it.
You’re fine when the photographs that Viggo sends to him end up on display in almost every room of the house. They’re Billy’s memories after all. They’re photographs of his friends – and it’s not like they’re all of him and Dominic...
It’s absolutely fine.
It’s fine when Billy calls you from Mexico to say that Dominic is flying down to stay with him for a while. You know that Dominic has been having a difficult time. He’s been depressed and Billy’s been worried.
You understand that Billy wants to help his best friend. Dominic obviously needs him. You would do the same in his position. Anybody would. And if you felt a small pang of jealousy, then that’s completely understandable. You’re just lonely and missing your Billy but there’s no reason to feel jealous. No reason at all.
And if one night Billy doesn’t call you like he always does, then... it’s fine. Because you trust him and because he phones you early the next morning and explains that he and Dominic had been out drinking and that he’d lost track of time; that he’d passed out on the sofa and only just woken up. That he’s sorry.
It only happened once. It could’ve happened to anyone.
Billy comes back to you and Dominic goes back to Los Angeles; and then Dominic gets a part in a big new TV series and then he gets himself a girlfriend.
And everything is fine.
And maybe you do wonder why Billy stops phoning Dominic every night; why he stops phoning him all together, but Billy just shrugs it off. People change don’t they? People move on. Dominic’s just really busy with filming and promotion. It’s nothing. It’s fine.
It must’ve been the truth because a few months later, Dominic gets back in touch again and then there are phone calls and Skype calls and emails every day. They’re working on a script together; collaborating; bouncing ideas off each other and it’s good.
If Billy seems happier than he’s been in a long, long time then – well – surely that had to be good?
And if one Thursday morning, you’re woken up at 3am by a ringing phone because Dominic is drunk and has forgotten the time difference then that’s fine.
And if Billy then spends the next two hours in the other room talking to him while you lie awake, staring at the ceiling then that’s fine too.
And if Billy then comes into the bedroom and announces that he has to go to LA because Dom and Evangeline have split up and Dom needs him... if he isn’t sure exactly how long he’ll be gone the it’s... no. It’s not fine. It’s not fine at all.
But there’s nothing you can do; there’s nothing you can say that will make him listen. So you just have to let him leave; let him go to his friend – his best friend who needs him.
Because Billy and Dom are just friends; they’re just really good friends.
Aren’t they?
