A Tale of

He splashed about happily, diving and surfacing repeatedly. After a while he glancing at the shore and caught the master’s eye, saw the beckoning hand. Regretfully he crept to the shore and shook the water from his face. Standing up, the cool air caused him to shiver. With a last longing look at the water he starting moving towards the Master. Coming closer he noticed the Master’s eyes were closed, his hand hanging by his side. Dropping to his haunches, he angled his head under the masters hand, waiting for acknowledgement. Soon enough, the Master’s fingers started rubbing the top of his head, his shoulders.

“Oh, you’re cold, shivering.” the master murmured. “Are you hungry? I promised I would take care of you.” Frodo reached down, and pulled him unto his lap, wrapping a blanket around him.

Warmth seeped into his body reducing the shivers. He rested his head on the Master’s chest and his hand crept from beneath the blanket.

As his hand brushed against the circle beneath the Master’s shirt, Gollum thought Yes, Yes. The Master takes care of us.

I really like this little piece. Very tricksy with the language making the reader think it's someone else.

Have you posted this in other LOTR fic comms? As mod here, I truly don't mind the occasional canon piece being posted (and please don't feel like you must remove it, as it's not breaking any rules), but as Fellowshippers is primarily an RPS comm, I wonder if you are not getting the readership you're looking for because of that. And I think you should, your writing is very good. :)

RPS is Real Person Slash, meaning the actors themselves, rather than the characters they play. Generally that's what most writers post here. However, over the years there has been some in-character fic posted as well, so it's is not disallowed. However a lot of watchers of this comm are here for the RPS, so I wonder that you aren't getting skipped over because this is in-character.

Please don't feel bad! You have not done anything wrong at all, but I think you should also post it in some comms that are character specific so you get more readers! [livejournal.com profile] lotr_fanfiction is still active. [livejournal.com profile] waymeet might also take this sort of fic. They ask for purely hobbit fic, no interspecies, and technically Smeagol is a hobbit. :)

Well that paints a rather creepy image in my head. *g* Well done!

I think you painted the hopeful picture, Frodo must have had in his head: Smeagol trusting and true and perhaps even coming back to being himself in the long run. Very evocative and beautiful!
