Summary: Orlando is a Greek whos wife was killed when asking for food for their four-year-old daughter. Dominic is a German officer occupying Greece. He doesn't agree with the war, however, in order to protect his family he's had to be in the army and do everything he was told, thus, getitng him advanced in rank. This is just a little intro, i wont write more if people don't like it. tell me what you think
Orlando sat down on his bed, pulling his four-year-old daughter into his arms. He stared past her, refusing to look at her. Her mother was dead and who does he blame? The fucking Germans of course. They killed her. And for what purpose? Because she wanted food for their daughter. He stroked her brown curls and hugged her. “Daddy?”
He closed his eyes. “What is it honey?”
“Where’s mommy?”
He bit his lip hard and kissed her softly on the forehead. “Mommy’s in heaven. She’s with the angels and with God now.”
“Why isn’t she coming home?”
Orlando sighed. He couldn’t do this. Not with this beautiful blue-eyed piece of heaven, not with her, he couldn’t do it. “Because God wants her. God thinks that it would be better if she was with him and we have to respect that.”
She sniffed and he immediately wiped the tears away from her eyes. “But I want my mommy!”
“I know…I know…”
He clung to her, stroking her hair and kissing her forehead.

Dominic growled at the morons before him. “She was asking for food!” He barked in German. “What were you morons thinking?”
They all avoided eye contact with him. He growled out in German again, “I can’t believe you two opened fire upon an unarmed person, not to mention a woman!! She needed food, she was asking for something we would have gladly given her.”
One of the officers finally spoke up. “She was just Greek scum, sir.”
Dominic slapped him. “Scum? Just Greek scum? She was a fucking human being, and you will not kill anyone unless they fire upon us or are planning an attack of sorts. You know we give them food if they need it. We’re not here to kill Greeks!”
“Just the dirty Kikes right?”
Dominic growled. “Out of my office. And if you two fire on another unarmed citizen who’s just asking for food or water or some other supply that we can give them, I’ll line you two up execution style.”
The two men left Monaghans’ office in foul moods. Dominic sat back in his chair and rubbed his face with his hands. How had he gotten here? Why was he here? Why was he so far from Berlin and having to deal with this? What was Hitler doing?
Dominic felt that by all means he shouldn’t be a ranking officer. He didn’t even want to be a peon in this war. If he could choose he would gladly, by all means, be in Auschwitz with the Jews or any other work (death) camp. But his family had been put under the chopping block if he so much as said he disagreed with what Hitler was doing. And he knew that they’d do it. They’d fucking do it. He had to protect his family.
He lit up a cigarette and looked around his office. So that was that. He had lied to protect his family, done everything asked of him so to protect them and ended up an officer in bloody Greece. Hopefully the Allies would break this down, would take out the Axis powers and he could go back to Berlin, rebuild…
But no, that wouldn’t happen. He had been behind the rounding up of hundreds of Jews, was behind the murder of several Greeks and he would be held responsible. He growled and stubbed out his cigarette, stood and grabbed his jacket and hat.
