never could resist those puppy dog eyes. Looking at them now, the chocolate brown depths imploring him to say yes, he relented with a heavy sigh.
“All right, lad. I’ll come.”
His reservations dissipated quickly at the dazzling white smile that met his announcement and Sean grinned in response, reaching out to enfold the younger man in his arms. Drawing him closer, he allowed his lips to gently touch the thick brown curls, now stirring gently in the breeze. He had to struggle to maintain his grip, as the boy was practically bouncing off the ground in his excitement, much like a five year old on his way to Chuck-e-Cheez, the Brit chuckled silently.
“Thank-you, Sean. Thank-you so much. You’ll have fun…you’ll see!”
Shaking his head in bemusement, Sean continued to smile and gaze at the younger man.
“How could I say no, lad? How could I say no?”

Four hours later, he was wishing that he had said no after all. Oh, it wasn’t the drinking that bothered him. He could put away a pint with the best of them and still walk a straight line. Rather, it was the loud and infantile behavior of the group. Well, most of the group, he amended silently. Oh, Orli wasn’t too bad, but the rest of them…the Hobbits…why, it was as if a nursery school had opened its doors and unleashed its unruliest students on the town.
Elijah, Dom, and Billy liked to drink. No, corrected himself quickly, they LOVED to drink. And with each sip consumed their behavior became more and more unruly, more and more wild and loud and obnoxious. He winced--literally and figuratively--as Dom began serenading everyone in the pub with his rendition of “Oh Danny Boy.” At least that’s what Sean thought he was singing.
Yikes! The fact that the boy had no musical ability whatsoever didn’t stop him at all. He belted out the song with gusto and enthusiasm, as if his very life depended on it. The others cheered him on enthusiastically, which prompted him to sing even louder. Sean watched the glasses lining the bar, waiting for one to shatter.
For his part, Orlando laughed and drank and seemed to enjoy the antics of his friends, but he did so from the sidelines without actually being an active participant.
Sean watched him, catching the frequent glances in his direction, the smiles of pure, unadulterated joy, mixed with a small dose of hesitation, perhaps wondering if his companion was enjoying himself as much as he was. Each time, Sean smiled back, raising his glass in a mock toast, even as he felt his jaw clenching and tightening from the strain of the smile. And each time, the younger man would return to watching his friends, seemingly satisfied that the older man was having fun and was happy to be there.
Inwardly, Sean thought, “Aye! I’m too old for this!”
But even as the words crossed his mind, the Brit realized that he could deny Orli nothing, and so he sat, and watched, and endured, a smile of contentment on his face./div>

That's a lovely friend. A well-described build up and ignoring of annoyance. So, how long before he figures out why Orli's really watching him?

Sweet, and a lovely description.
Thank you.
