"Rich people, poor people. Sinners and saints."

"Yes. Here, other sleeve now."

"Some people have six, seven divorces behind them. More. But they still can, again."

"Doesn't seem to mean much to some, does it."

"Teenagers can. Maybe can't vote yet, can't even buy a drink. But if their parents sign off, they can marry."

"Off with the trousers now, and let's climb in."

"Convicted criminals, Bill. Still in prison, but they have that right."

"Aye. Lie down now?"

"Tired of being hated, Bill."

"I love you."

"Tired, Bill."

"Yes. Close your eyes now, love."

Sometimes fiction is such a clear mirror for RL, I wish everyone read (and could see the benfits of) for entertainment - it really does broaden the mind and offers a path to (effortless) extension of knowledge (which should bring empathy).

back to reread. i love this completely. was running the points by Scruff and he was shaking his head. he just doesn't understand why it matters; why people have such self-righteous hate. i don't either but i just can't get over how well you laid out the cruelty of it all in this story.
