a/n: i left the quotes out this time; they felt cumbersome.
They could’ve killed you. You could've been killed.
Is alright. Is alright now.
No, should've been. You should be dead now. Maybe I'm just imagining this. Maybe I'm talking to a ghost.
No, Sean. Am right here. Right here with you. Feel my arms around you. Feel me.
I'm cold. I'm so cold. So tired.
Is just a little longer. We are very close....
There'll always be more.
So close, Sean. Then I am finished.
There'll always be another boss. Another family to bring down.
I finish this, and then we make our life. We will go away, and --
Don't. Don't speak of our future again, of making a home somewhere. It's not real.
Our home, Sean. With garden. And ‘picket fence,’ you call it? And you will teach me fishing, like when you were boy.
No. No more. I can't hear it again.
Sean --
Nikolai. I... I can't do this. I can't do this any more. I know what this work means to you, but --
Please --
I don't know how to live without you. But I can't stay here. I can't stay here and watch you die.
No. No, you cannot leave me. I love you.
The love of a dead man does me no good. Please. Please, you've given them so much. It's enough. Don't give them your life, too.
They need me --
I need you. I need you, alive, with me. You've done enough. Someone else can continue from here. Please, Nikolai. Let it be enough.
....
In garden... we can grow zucchini?
Nikolai?
I... I like zucchini.
...Yes. Yes, love.
Am... am tired also. Is time. Is time for us, now.
Yes, we'll have zucchini. And beets. You'll make your grandmother's borscht.
Home. Home now, Sean?
Yes. Let me take you home.

and it want along with the picture 'just so.' i could feel sean's pain, and nikolai's - it was right there in your face, in the words.
i really hope they do get to that place at the end where they can go home.

just last night, i finally read your "Elendil!" from VigBean2, and i wanted to say how much i liked it. favorite lines:
I've failed the first to call me King!
He did not beg for Boromir, the blood of Isildur would care little for the blood of the Stewards
For a long moment in sick fancy he imagined that they had both died and would never need to know the thrum of life again, but how was it that his heart shook in his chest?
they saw him turn on his side in to Boromir, to rest his forehead against the other man's arm
that last bit - - it works so beautifully to tell it from gimli and legolas' perspective. this was a lovely, lovely story. thank you!
