(no subject)

Hey everyone, as a long-time active member of this comm, I'd really like to just post a reminder from the user info page.

This community is for those who like to write, read and talk about slash fiction featuring the actors from The Lord of the Rings films. Yes, that means RPS, folks, so if that is not your cup of tea then I suggest you not let the door swat you on the ass on your way out.

Rule 1: PLEASE KEEP ALL GRAPHICS BEHIND LJ CUTS. This is a courtesy to those community members who may be on dialup, or browsing from work.

Rule 2: Posting links to stories that are friends-locked in your personal journal is not allowed in this community.

Rule 3: Be nice, be calm, be courteous.

Rule 4: Happy slashing.

To the mod of this community: I would really, really like to take over moderation of [livejournal.com profile] fellow_shippers. Nothing would change, and in fact, I would be happy to organize tags, memories and make this community more user friendly. I have been here for years and would willingly be here every day to keep an eye on things. I simply think the users here could benefit from a mod who is still very active in LOTRips fandom. Please consider it? Thanks!

I'd support your addition to the mod list. It wouldn't hurt to have an infusion of new yummy blood ideas and energy, here. :)

Ahh, what brought this on? Is there something consistently out of step with the comm rules happening?

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
It might be the graphics, who knows?

[identity profile] tarnished-raven.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Could be. I'm of the 'if it ain't broke' school of thought, ya know? I've never thought of this comm as needing modding exactly, it's not like there are flame wars or anything like that. In all the years I've been reading/using it, it's remained a place for posting fic, other odds and ends, it's never been the sort of comm that has challenges or those dreadful table things and whatnot. Plenty of comms for those. fellow_shippers has always been fairly quiet and... general. I like that.

[identity profile] azewewish.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I totally agree. I've been around since its inception & I don't remember any of the weird nonsense that plagues a lot of the other fic comms. It's always been a great catch-all place for all pairings, which I like.

Hey, I'm all for anyone who takes an active interest in the fandom. *g* As someone below suggested, try emailing moony at moony@livejournal.com. Hopefully you two can get it sorted out. :

The graphics, the het (this is a slash comm!), the ancient layout... those are my issues. Revitalization here would be really cool to see.

[identity profile] tarnished-raven.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
There was het? Eww. Easy enough to scroll past though, I must have, didn't see it. LOL I don't see the layout at all as it comes thru to me as style=mine.

Who mods this puppy anyway?

That's exactly the problem. I really have no idea, and I don't know if I know anyone who does! This comm is showing signs of neglect, and I think it could be something better with a mod who is around.

Cutting in here to say that it's someone named [livejournal.com profile] moony.

Theoretically.

Though I'm not exactly wild about the het (*coughspluttergag*), I wouldn't want to disallow it out of hand. While this may be controversial and I'm not looking to start a flame war, 'slash' has often been defined as putting two characters who wouldn't normally be paired in a sexual relationship together in just such a way. Under that rubric, I can't think of two more unlikely people to pair up than Billy and Miranda. ;)

All of that having been said, though, most people do expect the definition of slash to mean same-sex relationships being depicted. Perhaps some clarity and consensus amongst the members should be sought? Life and definitions are weird.

Since she has a paid account (yes, I snooped), you could try emailing her at moony@ livejournal.com. That should reach her, wherever her active email is. In theory.

Good luck! I'd really like to see someone who's interested mod this community.

Here, here. I'd love to see you become mod, especially because you're actually around to keep an eye on things. And it would be nice to see something other than a Christmas layout from two years ago. Call me superficial, but come on. It's hard to make a community enjoyable when the admin is never around.

I'd love a new mod, and something better than bright-red-and-green layout, yikes1

Hear, hear! That layout hurts my eyes rather badly.

If you'd like to do this, [livejournal.com profile] suede_scripture, I can't imagine why an inactive mod would object. But then again, I just post here. It's a very nice community because of the people who use it.

I think a new mod is a great idea! Personally, I zap any banners that people don't put behind a cut (I use "Adblock" with my Firefox browser), but I'd rather not see them in the first place. And having an active mod to deal with some of the issues that you outlined in a comment above would be fantastic.

Let us know if you have any luck contacting the current mod! If not, I wonder if it's something that you could take up with the LJ staff?

[identity profile] v-angelique.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I would agree that a bit of new life would be nice, but also I think that what [livejournal.com profile] raven_pen said is an important point. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and so I wouldn't suggest bringing in things like challenges or frequent mod posts or what have you. Not that a new mod who's more active wouldn't be nice, I just think that [livejournal.com profile] fellow_shippers is good because it is pretty much just the fiction, not a lot of meta or challenges or whatever else. So if you're thinking of just keeping it as-is, but changing the layout and organising the tags and politely enforcing rules, then I say sure, go for it! And good luck contacting the mod :-)

I just looked at the info page...
Congratulations!
