My roommate & I used to run one like that - a monthly challenge community called furorscribendi (for Lotrips & KA fic) - where we threw out 'complex' challenges & people were expected to write at least 500 words. It had a pretty good run, too, then interest in both fandoms waned & we ended it.

But it'd be nice to have a fandom-specific challenge comm again.
