Chapter Nineteen - Destiny

Dominic was floating on a comfortable blue cloud of dreams. He could hear his lover’s voice saying his name and he smiled. He couldn’t move yet, but he was patient. His thoughts returned to him, and along with the joy of being reunited with Elijah came the pain of death. Billy was gone, Sean was gone.
But he had a new chance. Another chance to start over, to live life to the fullest with the man he loved beside him.
He felt a tingling sensation crawl up his arms, as if his entire body was waking up. Pins and needles everywhere, affirming life. He found he couldn’t open his eyes yet, but he could wiggle his toes.
I’m coming Elijah…I’m coming back to you.
He heard a sob and knew it was from Elijah.

He mistook it for a cry of joy.
~
Elijah almost swore that Dom wasn’t dead. How could he look so perfect, so desirable, when death had him? Why was he still so warm? Why did it still seem as if those eyes would open any second?
Elijah’s mind was playing wicked games with him. He wanted so much for Dom to be alive that he could swear Dom’s toes had just moved. He looked down at the sharp edge of the blade. He lifted it…felt it cold and deadly against his skin.
He heard his own voice crying, saw his own tears fall onto Dom’s arm.
"I can’t live without you Dominic."
~
Dom was fighting for movement, fighting to see…fighting for life. He wanted so desperately to open his eyes and see Elijah. He knew he was there, could feel the warmth from Elijah’s skin next to his body.
Where was Viggo? He couldn’t hear Viggo at all.
That was wrong.
Viggo should be there.
Dominic struggled against the slow lethargy that had him in it’s grip. He concentrated all his efforts on moving his arm.
He heard Elijah speak, and the words ran like ice cold water over him.
"I can’t live without you Dominic."
*Wait…no…no…Elijah no…*
Something had gone horribly wrong. Elijah thought he was dead. He felt Elijah’s arms come around him, felt the soft hair from his head tickle his nose. He fought the rising panic, fought to move.
"I love you."
Dom fought desperately to speak, but nothing would come.
Elijah’s body moved away from him and he tried to scream his name.

Nothing came.
~
"I knew I loved you the moment I saw you." Elijah said, lifting the blade once more to the pale perfection of his chest.
Elijah felt the blinding white piercing pain as the blade drove downward.
The pain was nothing compared to living without Dominic.
He saw the blood pouring from his chest, felt his body shake, felt the blade slice through him. He was going to join Dom soon. Going to see him, hold him, love him…be with him forever.
He leaned over, placing a gentle farewell kiss on the warm lips of his lover.
Pain exploded through him as he fell, the room spun and the white glare of the light above him began to fade.
"I’m coming Dominic."

Within seconds, Elijah was dead.
~
Dom heard it all.
A ragged cry tore from his lips as he felt the whole world explode.
"Elijah!" he screamed. His body obeyed his command, and sluggishly he moved, his eyes widening in horror as the sight of Elijah’s deep scarlet coloured blood covering him.
He struggled against the lethargy and looked on the floor.
Elijah lay there, still as death. Blood poured from the wound, his blue eyes closed forever. Dom flung himself off the table, landing on top of Elijah. Blindly he called his name, kissing those lips, crying, sobbing, knowing it was useless.
"Lijah…Lijah don’t leave me…don’t leave me…" he sobbed.
But Elijah was gone.
Just like Billy, and just like Sean, his lover, his mate…was dead.
Dominic cursed God.
He stared around the room blankly, knowing it was real but wishing it weren’t. His eyes fell upon the sharp blade and he pulled it gently from Elijah’s chest and shook it at the heavens.
"Curse you God! You took everything from me! Now I take something back." he looked back down at Elijah’s body. "I promised. I promised to follow you." he said softly, turning the blade. It glinted sharply in the light.
He plunged it downward, into his chest, claiming his own destiny.
As the life seeped from him, he took Elijah’s hand in his. Words tumbled from his lips.
"This is our return to innocence."
He closed his eyes and let the angel of death take him.
~
Viggo slammed the car into park and got out, racing down the steps of the funeral home.
He skidded to a halt and cried out in horror.
Dominic lay on top of Elijah’s body, hands clasped together in death.
The razor-sharp switchblade was embedded deeply in Dominic’s chest.
Viggo stepped forward, his soul bleeding out of his body as he saw the lovers wrapped in each others arms, dead on the floor.
He lifted his head to the sky and with one swift movement, pulled the cross from his neck, flinging it into the corner, never to be picked up again.

*runs off for more tissues*

Oh dear god. This hurt so much. I think I was practically sobbing through the whole thing. And the fact that Dom knew what was going on but couldn't slip out of the drug's grasp fast enough, that just makes it even harder. This is just such an amazing powerful piece of writing, and the title (this being it's second appearance), seems all the more appropriate now. Great job on this, it's really intense and wonderful to read, even if I end up an emotional mess by the end.

I saw that you had the lines from that Evanescence song up, so I decided to find it and download it. Well I did, and it fits really well. Thanks for including that a/n.

Oh...

I knew it was coming, but I didn't expect it to be so powerful.

*wipes eyes*

You do know how good you are don't you? I sure hope you give yourself a extra big hug for this to add to the virtual hug coming your way.

I wanted to be cheered up about five minutes ago, but now I'm bawling. Nevermind though cos I'm happier to read tragedy than be a moody cow.

I waited for this all yesterday and it wasn't there, I nearly died!!!

Sad, sad *erm as in crying and sobbing sad*, I only know one thing that's just as sad and it isn't Romeo and Juliet.

Fantastic this is one on my list that will be read over and over.

I've been busy with Thanksgiving and stuff, and I almost missed this post and then...

T_T

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! :'( I had hope near the end though, but then I was just sad.

I really liked the Viggo part it added to the ending.
