The sun had already risen high above the Temple when Raneb finally woke. The past night had worn him out a lot, though in a most satisfying way. A happy smile appeared on the face of the still half-dozing monarch as he remembered the golden haired slave of his daughter, and his member twitched and started to harden again. His eyes still closed, Raneb turned around and reached out for the girl to continue where he'd stopped last night – only to grab mere air. Immediately, his eyes flew open and he looked around the chamber. His bed was a mess, a stain of blood was on the white sheets, but other than that, nothing reminded of the past night, of the fun he'd had with the slave as she was gone, just like her gown that he remembered having ripped off her. Raneb let out a series of curses and tore the sheets off the bed.

"Guards!" he yelled as he started dressing himself. A second later, the door flew open and a group of guards came in, followed by the High Priest.

"What has happened, my King?" the Priest asked and looked around; when he saw the stain of blood on the mattress, the color seemed to leave his skin. "Where is the slave?" he asked breathlessly. Raneb looked up and glared at him. "That's what I am asking you!" he snapped, pacing the room, "Did you fetch her for your own bed while I was asleep?!" The Priest looked up in shock and blushed. "What? My King, I would not do such a thing!"

"You have done so before," Raneb reminded him coldly, "And I know you have set eyes on her."

"My King, I only have fetched those that you did not want any more!" Asim defended himself, suppressing the urge to glare at the raging monarch. He'd had this kind of discussions before, and was growing tired of them.

He had his reasons for doing so, reasons that no one at the Temple knew about, and Asim was keen to make sure no one ever would know. Yes, it was true, he *had* set eyes on the golden haired girl, and he would have been a liar if he'd denied the fact that her angelic beauty made him stir and burn with desire. But the High Priest knew that it was still too early for him to lay any claim on the girl; instead he had to settle for admiring from afar and dreaming of what he'd do if he were in Raneb's shoes. So that had been what he'd done last night, watching her closely to remember every movement, every gesture of her for later. And this had been the reason why he'd seen the tiny gestures between her and the Princess the night before. Now that he saw the stain of blood on the bed though, Asim was not too sure any more if it had been a good idea to have told Raneb of his discovery.

"Who was in charge of guarding my chambers last night?" Raneb's angry voice tore him out of his thoughts.

"No one was, your Highness, you had sent everyone away last night," one of the guards spoke. Raneb cursed. "I want the slave girl back, right now!"

"She surely has returned to your daughter's chambers, my King," the High Priest said soothingly and waved at two of the guards to go there. At once, they saluted and wheeled around, leaving the chamber in a hurry.

"She would not dare!" Raneb yelled, "That slave is mine! *I* bought her, not my daughter! This slave should know where her obligations lie!"

"My King, she loves your daughter," the Priest replied simply, "She feels safe around her."

"She won't be able to feel safe anywhere any more!" Raneb hissed, "Because if need be, I'll go to Liv's chambers myself and take her right there! How dare my daughter to disobey me like this? She's going to marry Nebka!" He stopped and slumped into his throne. For a moment, he was quiet, but suddenly, a thought popped to his mind and he looked up. "In fact, she's going to marry Nebka on the next New Moon and not next year. You," he addressed Asim, "Prepare everything. I will announce their engagement today. I know Nebka can't wait to be united with my daughter," he resumed with an evil chuckle, "So let's give her to him early, I am sure he won't mind. And I definitely won't mind having her out of the way so I can have her slave whenever I want to!"

He looked up to find the guards that the High Priest had sent out to his daughter's chambers return.

"Where is she? You dare come back without her?" Raneb asked through gritted teeth. The guards tried not to back away and bowed.

"My King, she is gone," the first guard spoke hesitantly.

"What?!" Raneb jumped up from his throne and crossed the room, grabbing each of the two men by their throats. "Gone? You better tell me that this is your idea of a joke, and I'll have you killed quickly!"

"This is no joke, my King," the second guard gasped, trying desperately not to panic and to reach for Raneb's hand, "We found your daughter's chambers empty. We have asked around, no one knows where she is. No one saw them leave." Raneb looked at him dangerously. "Are you trying to tell me both my daughter and my slave have left the Temple with no one knowing?"

Raneb did not wait for an answer, but let go of the first guard and closed both his hands around the second guard's neck, "You have let them escape?" The guard choked and gasped as the King throttled him more and more; at last he could no longer keep his hands down and reached for his monarch's arms, frantically trying to pull them off. "We did not do it on purpose!" he begged raggedly, but Raneb would not hear him.

"You have stolen my slave!" he yelled at the man, his hands closing even more around the guard's neck, "You have stolen my property!" Asim turned away as the other guards watched in horror how Raneb continued to throttle the struggling man, throwing him to the ground, his hands clamping around the poor soldier's neck. The guard gasped and choked and panted, a terrified look on his face as he tried to free himself from the iron grasp, but he grew weaker and weaker from the lack of air.

"No one steals my property, no one!" Raneb ground out as the man suddenly went limp and stopped his struggle, the only sound from him a rattle, but he did not let go of the neck until even the rattle had died down. "No one!" he said again as he finally pulled back and got up, looking down at the corpse in disgust.

"Dispose of him," he said calmly to the High Priest, making the other man jump, "And you," he turned to the other three guards, "You will find my daughter and the slave and bring them back to me. If I don't have them back by the next New Moon, I will have all your families buried alive, and you will follow your comrade. Now leave me alone, and send for Cassandra. She isn't even half as good as my daughter's slave, but she'll have to do for the time being," Raneb said and walked over to the window to stare out into the desert as if he could see the fugitives out there. He didn't bother to turn and make sure that he was obeyed; he knew that after the current display of his abilities, his guards and soldiers would not dare to withstand or even oppose him.

"Liv," Raneb growled, "I will make you pay for this betrayal. You have stolen from your King and father... When I am done with you, you will *beg* for your death... But don't think I will grant you that. You will see what you get for stealing from me!"

Sorry I get back to your feedback only now... I'm having a hard time keeping up with comments in general.

Fin and I are both very glad that you liked this chapter :) We were both debating to take it out but then thought it would add an interesting edge to the overall story and kept it in. Reading your feedback surely proves us right :)

Thank you again! *hugs*
