Summary: Food, movies and fun.

They waited until the waitress had taken their drink orders before they dispersed to the buffet bar. Lily and Andi walked over to the sushi bar, hand in hand. Billy and Dom broke off and ravaged the sesame chicken and the honey chicken. Elijah meandered to the beef and broccoli.
Loading up his plate with his favorite Chinese foods, he walked back to the table, placing his food down and taking his jacket off, draping it on the high back of his chair. Sitting down, he took a sip of his sweet tea and opened his chopsticks, waiting for everyone else. Billy and Dom sat next to each other on Elijah’s left, each with steaming plates. Andi sat down on the other side of the table, her plate full of spring rolls. She tossed some soy sauce on them, and started eating.

"Lij? Aren’t you going to eat?"

"Uh, yeah. I was just waiting for everyone else."

"Honey, if you do that, you’ll never eat. Now, chow down before it gets cold."
Lily joined the table a few minutes later. "Sorry, I had to wait for him to do some more California rolls."

"Hmps uhay." Andi mumbled through her fourth spring roll.

The table was silent, save the occasional scrape of chopsticks on porcelain
or the clink of ice as it settled in a glass. When Elijah came back from getting some egg rolls and a bit of sushi for himself, the others were talking animatedly.

"But Tarantino is a genius. Just because he hasn’t directed as many films as say, Spielberg, is no reason to discredit his work." Dom emphasized his words with short jabs of his chopsticks.

Lily nodded, and as Elijah sat back down, she asked, "Who is your favorite director?"

Elijah chewed for a moment, swallowing before answering. "Well, I like Tarantino, and I agree with Dom." At this, Dom grinned. "But, I also like Spielberg, of course. Rodriguez, Kaufman, mostly indie directors."

Andi nodded, chewing. "I love Kaufman. His work is amazing."
The rest of dinner was threaded with conversation about directors, cinematography, actors, and films. What else would five film students talk about?

After dropping a whopping $6.99 plus tip apiece on the table, they headed back to Billy’s SUV, car-dancing to Reel Big Fish until Billy parked the car again, this time in front of Joe’s, a local video store. They left the vehicle, filed into the small store, heading to the independent films section, of course. Once there, they became talkative, discussing pros and cons, showing movies to the others. Billy came up to Elijah with a bright green DVD case. "Hey, have you seen this one?"

Elijah looked at it. ‘Rum Runner,’ a story about a young man trying to make his last, and first, high school party a success with as much alcohol as possible. It was directed by an indie director named Jordan Wood. "Yeah, I’ve seen it."

"Is it any good?" Billy questioned. "I’ve never seen any of this guy’s work."

"I’ve seen all of it."

Billy smirked, "Big fan?"

"Director."

Billy’s jaw dropped. "You mean, you directed this? You’re Jordan Wood? But, your name is Elijah."

Elijah picked up a DVD case, reading the back. "Elijah Jordan Wood."

"Oh my god. Well, that settles it, we are getting this one."

Elijah screwed his eyes up tight. ‘Rum Runner’ was one of the worst films he ever touched. "Maybe we should get something else?"

"Oh, don’t worry, Lij. We will." Billy walked off, grabbing Dom and whispering into his ear. Dom shot Elijah a look, then turned back to Billy. Elijah stopped watching them, as he got distracted with reading about other movies. Pity he did. They ended up walking out with six movies, ‘Rum Runner’, ‘Dazed and Confused’, ‘Mambo Italiano’, ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘Saltine’, and ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.’ Two of them Elijah’s, the only two that had been mass-produced so far, ‘Rum Runner’ and ‘Saltine’.

After driving back to the other side of town, Billy pulled into a circular driveway, parking behind a black Chevy and a silver Saturn. Cutting off the engine, they all piled out. Elijah stopped on the pavement, looking up at the house. It was huge. Well, huge for four undergraduate film students. It was a relatively new, two-story brick house, dark red and brown. There were dying azaleas in front of the two bay windows, one on each side of the door. The front door was thick, polished wood, with a copper knocker. "Damn." He exclaimed lightly.

Billy laughed. "It was my aunt’s. Left it to me in her will, saying she knew I would use it when I came to school." He chuckled. "She knew I was a film student before I did." He threw an arm across Elijah’s shoulders, "Come on in. I’ll give you a tour while everyone else sets up the movies."
He and Billy walked up the stone walkway up to the door, Billy shouting out to the rest that he was taking Elijah on the grand tour.

When they got back from investigating the five bedrooms (only two of which were occupied), two bathrooms, big backyard, three pets (a dog, a fish, and a cat: Rugby, Ayden, and Alea), they went back to the living room, Rugby following them. The dog bounded into the room, jumping into Dom's outstretched arms.

"Hey buddy! Hey..." he ruffled the dog's ears, and Rugby presented his furry belly for a good scratch. Dom scratched it causing the little doggie to kick his legs. Andi and Lily were lounging on the couch, Dom on a bright green beanbag chair. Billy went and squished in behind him, leaving Elijah the dark brown easy chair next to the coffee table. Everyone got settled, and Andi pressed the play button. The movie began, "Saltine". Elijah got wrapped up into the movie, going over his work meticulously, like usual. He didn't feel Lily nudging him until she said his name. Startled out of his haze, he turned to Lily.

"Here," she said tightly, holding out a green glass pipe and a lighter.

He took the pipe without question, lighting up, inhaling a sweet, sticky smoke. He held onto the fragrant smoke, leaning over the table to pass the bowl to Dom, who took a hit and shared it with Rugby, then a shotgun for Billy. Seeing the two boys' lips touch briefly with smoke leaking from unsealed corners confirmed a suspicion he had harbored since earlier in the day.

About fifteen minutes and fifteen hits later, the film was forgotten as the five made their respective seats and on to their asses around the coffee table.

"No, Mighty Mouse HAS to come back. It was one of the greatest cartoons."

Lily nodded slowly before shouting, "Oh, OOOO!!! Oh! Another great cartoon! The Cure!"

The group laughed long and hard before Billy calmed down enough to gasp, "Lils, that's not a cartoon!" which caused more laughter and a prompt for someone to get up and grab some chips.

When Andi came back with the chips, brownies, popcorn, chocolate pudding, strawberries, Smirnoff Twisted Watermelon, and Vanilla Coke, Dom had drug out the Playstation and had found a challenge in Elijah. They played games and ate junk, getting drunk on top of the excellent marijuana they had flowing through their veins. No one noticed it was so late, and no one cared.
