OT Disappointed: A Note

All right, I'm just going to say this because it's something that must be done.

Ladies and gents, I must tell you all how disappointed I am in you. Recently, it was called to my attention that I forgot an LJ-Cut when I posted a story. Due to this, I was "attacked"--per se--by fellow LJ girls. This whole situation caused me to realize what a bunch of bitches sensitive people are on livejournal. I'm not saying that it isn't right to correct someone who does something like that, but it was done in such a way that I felt as if I were being attacked--by my fellow writers and readers nonetheless. It's a complete outrage and almost makes me regret being a part of this fandom. I know I'm not the only person it has happened to, and I know I won't be the last; I'm just the person who wants to say something loud and clear. I don't even care if no one wants to take an interest in my stories because of this, but I knew I had to say it. The rudeness shown in these remarks is a low blow. Not to mention, I thought feedback was meant to build other writers up, not make them feel like they have nothing to offer because of one silly mistake.

As for the people who do want to continue reading my stories, thank you so much for your support. I'm going to learn how to link to the other parts of Angst: The Series, and post them with the next part. I'm not sure how many parts there will be, but the next one does clarify things a bit. Have a great day.

As for the rest of you, I don't mean to come across as a bitch rude, cold person. But I felt it was my duty to say something. I hope you can take what I said into consideration. Just think how you would feel if you had been at the recieving end of some of those comments. I still love you all.

WTF? I am really sorry that that happened to you. Most of us are warm and lovable, I promise! *extra hugs*

(I haven't read anything in AGES because I am struggling with massive writers block and I keep beating a probably dead horse but I am determined to wrestle something out of the cold, dead corpse...heh...)

I think there are some people who actully LIVE for things like that to happen so they can attack and feel superior. Pity them and their sad lives.

Ever heard of Fandom_Wank? We mock those who do this sort of stuff.

... But I agree. I saw that, but it wasn't like, 30 pages. It was a fairly short fic. So it didn't stretch my flist and what's the problem with that. So.

*rolls eyes*

I don't read monaboyds because they are not really my cup of tea... but I have to answer you because I can't believe that someone was so rude to you. I hope the person comes and apologizes, because as a writer myself (and not native, which makes the whole thing really tough at times), I understand completely how you feel.

... that's it.

I read the comments when you posted, and I don't get these people...

The same actually happened to me, I was attacked as well, so I can relate...

I've encountered rude people in LJ myself and have been boggled about it! Insanity is what it is. (I even had to post about it in my LJ to get the rotten feeling off my chest.)
Sorry you had to go through something so crummy. Uncalled for, absolutely.

I've only been part of this group for about a week, so I don't really know what's being talked about. What I CAN say however is that I've made the same mistakes. I've never seen it as this big huge deal. People just get a little too worked up over stuff. Point it out and be done with it. It's a problem that isn't going to ruin your day, and if it isn't, then have a good one.
We've ALL done it. And if there are some that haven't, here's your cookie.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. We all make mistakes (me more than most) and no one minds it being pointed out, but it can be down in a nice way, a bit of politeness never hurt anyone.

I've only met nice people here so, please, don't give up on the rest of us just because of a few idiots.

I just went back and read the comments left for you where people requested an LJ cut and I can't find anything where you were rudely attacked. Three of the 5 people said please. The other 2 left out the please but I didn't see anything there to indicate a rude attack.

Was a comment deleted?

Did you bring this rude attack to the attention of the community owner?

[identity profile] bbluejenn117.livejournal.com 2005-10-17 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to say that I didn't even notice the lack of the cut, and if I did I wouldn't care...it is a fantabulous story, please continue!

Cheers to you pet!! *snuggles* I agree SO Much with what you say and you rock for posting it!! *loves* Your stories rock, no matter what you think!!

[identity profile] seethingheathen.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. You sure showed me. I shall go hide in a corner and tremble with fear.

Ohh love I'm so sorry that happened to you, I saw it when I read the fic and couldn't believe the other comments that were being left. Something like that happened to me when I was first starting out too, so I know how it feels. Seriously those people are the minority, but unfortunately they are a VOCAL minority, don't give them a second thought, they obviously have too much time on their hands.I'm sorry they made you question your participation in the fandom though.

As for your fic i loved it, I LOVE angsty fic and I can't wait to read your next chapter! *cuddles*

[identity profile] seethingheathen.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Who was rude? Unless you deleted something, there is no rudeness on the post. ASking someone to put a fic behind a cut isn't rude, mean, or bitchy.

Stop your OT whinging.

[identity profile] seethingheathen.livejournal.com 2005-10-20 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, okay.

You missed the point.

Keep the bitching and moaning in your own journal instead of posting it OFF-TOPIC to a community. This is spam, plain and simple. And if you can't deal with the fact that everyone isn't going to bend down and kiss your feet, maybe you shouldn't be posting your stories in a public forum.

[identity profile] seethingheathen.livejournal.com 2005-10-21 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, since you added the OT bit after our exchange.

And you're right, no one made me read anything. It just happened to show up on my flist to annoy me, thereby provoking me into writing a wanky response.

[identity profile] selene-vidae.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, sweetie. I very much remember that post. True, it wasn't under a cut but the story was rockin' so I decided not to say anything. Plus, the five or so comments before mine already asked for an lj-cut (and not so nicely either).

Other people have pointed out that it seems like what those people said was perfectly all right. That it wasn't rude at all. Sure, it's all right to ask people to put things behind a cut - but there's a certain way of asking. Rudeness isn't just defined by the words you use but also by the tone you say it in. Granted, it's bit harder to see that in writing but it's still fairly easy to pick up.

Rudeness isn't relative or subjective. It just is and if some people can't see that... *shrugs* Sod them.

*huggles you* Rock on, darling. And as I said in my comment in your story, do write more because you're quite talented.

If you want to talk about it more, feel free to drop by my LJ, hun. *smooches*

Countering rudeness with rudeness always works well...doesn't it?

[identity profile] chaosmanor.livejournal.com 2005-10-18 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
I was one of the people who asked you to put an lj-cut in (I think I was the first one to post that). I can't remember saying 'please', so I probably didn't.

I didn't intend to be rude, my intention was to stop you from alienating folks before they had a chance to read your fic.

I'm not a hobbits kinda girl so I didn't read the fic.
