Miranda quietly followed Nakhti down the corridor to the banqueting hall. Raneb had asked for her to be summoned to serve Liv during the banquet she was to take with her father, the High Priest and Prince Nebka. Miranda knew that this was not a good sign; either it meant that Raneb had finally given up his restraint to lay claim on her or that somehow he had found out about their love and was setting them a trap.

She looked at the broad back of the guard before her, trying to slow down her heartbeat and steady her breathing. Liv had been out all day to spend with her father, and as always, Miranda had found it almost unbearable to be parted from her love for such a long period of time. Still she would have preferred to wait a little longer instead of having to go to the banquet where she already knew she'd be humiliated before everyone's eyes. When Nakhti suddenly slowed down, Miranda found herself walking next to him and she quickly lowered her gaze, praying that she had not given her thoughts away.

Glancing over at Miranda as they approached the entrance to the banquet hall Nakhti placed his hand on her arm, "Please be careful. I have seen the feelings you two share." He gave her arm a slight squeeze. "Do not worry, what I know will not leave my lips to any other person, not even the King," he said looking her in the eyes. "Liv is very much in love with you and she is like a sister to me so you are part of the family as well," he added as he lightly brushed her cheek with the back of his hand. "Now go my friend," he said in a tender voice as he reached for the door to open it for her.

Turning pale, Miranda looked at the big man. "You have seen it?" she whispered, but when he reassured her, she smiled and nodded. "I will be careful," she promised quietly, "Not even so much for me, but for Liv. I swear I will not let anything happen to her. If I can help it, no matter how, I will make sure she is safe." She waited for the guard to open the door for her and slipped through with a final smile at Nakhti.

Once inside Miranda looked over to the dining table where Liv sat next to her father. She could make out the High Priest and several other noblemen and priests. She felt a sting in her heart when she recognized the man to the Princess' right as Nebka, the Prince who Raneb planned to give Liv's hand in marriage. Miranda felt a wave of anger rise in her, but she fought it down again and quickly hushed along the wall into the kitchen, well aware that at least two pairs of eyes – those of her love and also Raneb's were following her every move.

Liv's heart skipped a beat as she noticed Miranda enter the room but she tried her best not to let on that she was feeling anything out of the ordinary. Slowly she glanced around the room making sure everyone was occupied with their conversations and food, but to her dismay and anger she saw her father undressing Miranda with his eyes.

She wished she could be back in her room with Miranda, or better yet be in another place and time. Far away from her father and the temple. She would much rather be spending time with her love than with her father and this pampas excuse for a Prince.

As Miranda slipped through the door, she found Cassandra in the kitchen preparing the next dish to be served. "Oh God, don't tell me you've been called to serve?" Cassandra gasped as she hugged her friend, "Beware the King, he's on the prowl tonight. He has groped me every time I passed him. And your mistress' Prince?" She shuddered.

"He's not 'her Prince'!" Miranda said angrily, but sighed immediately. "I am sorry. I am just... scared, that is all. I never had to wait on Liv during a state banquet. This can only mean one thing."

Cassandra nodded, understanding immediately what Miranda was trying to say and pulled the golden haired woman into another hug. "Just be careful, Miranda," she whispered, "Promise me that."

"I will be fine," Miranda replied softly and grabbed the plate that was for Liv. Giving Cassandra another smile, she took a deep breath and pushed the kitchen door open and slowly walked over to the banqueting table.

"We will announce the engagement at your upcoming birthday celebration," the King said to Liv and toasted to Nebka. "This will be a great day for all Egypt," he continued. Liv sighed inwardly and held her tongue. She was dying inside. She did not want to marry this man; she could not stand to even be around him.

She had finally found her true love, one that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with and now it was being taken away from her. She was to be married, leave the Temple and Miranda would be left in the hands of her father. Liv felt a small shiver run down her spine at the thought of what her father and others would do to Miranda; she would be made the King's own whore.

Suddenly Liv was jarred back to reality as she noticed Miranda out of the corner of her eye approaching the table with her tray. God, I hope she didn't hear my father. I wanted to break this to her myself, she thought. She didn't know when or how she was going to tell Miranda, but she didn't want her to find out this way.

As she approached the table, Miranda saw Raneb toast to his daughter and Nebka while he was talking. She didn't need to catch anything of what was said, still she knew immediately what had been said. What Cassandra had told her a fortnight ago was now being put into reality – Raneb was to marry his daughter to the young Prince. Suppressing a sigh, she stepped up beside her love. As Liv looked up, she gave her a quick and secret smile, "My Princess," Miranda said quietly in what she hoped was a neutral tone and reached out to put the plate on the table before the Princess.

Looking up at Miranda as she spoke, Liv wanted to return the smile and greeting, but she knew better. She was sure that Miranda could read her eyes though for she knew they were surely full of sorrow. As Miranda reached out to sit the plate down Liv raised a hand to help her steady it because her hand seemed to be a little uneasy, probably from nervousness Liv guessed.

Miranda nearly forgot about their surroundings as Liv reached out for her hand and for a split second she looked straight into her love's eyes before she caught herself and lowered her gaze again. She was craving and fearing the touch at the same time, as short as it was. As their hands met, Miranda immediately felt the by-now familiar tingle that Liv's touch was always causing on her skin.

Giving herself a mental shake, Miranda set the plate down in front of Liv without another word or look and stepped back, well aware of the hungry stares all the men at the table and mainly Raneb were giving her. She was expecting either Raneb or Nebka to reach out for her but still, when she felt a hand touch her bottom and give it a hard squeeze, she could hardly restrain herself from jumping away from the rough fingers.

"Aren't you a lovely one?" A very drunk Raneb said with a laugh as his hand slid from Miranda's bottom up to her waist and back down again. He gave it another good squeeze as he looked over at Nebka and the two laughed.

With a violent yank Raneb pulled Miranda back into his lap, causing her to throw the tray high in the air, and ground himself against her as he groped her breasts. "Oh, very nice!" he said loudly with a laugh as he tried to restrain the struggling woman.

Liv wanted to say something but knew better. She just watched in horror as her father groped her love in front of her. And to make things worse, the man she was to marry, even though she did not like him, was laughing as well and measuring Miranda with equally as greedy eyes as her father. This little display was turning her stomach. Bastards, she thought as she glanced up quickly at Miranda's face before looking back to her plate.

Miranda blushed and instinctively struggled against the King's groping and grinding, frantically trying to fight down the panic all this caused in her. At last she somehow managed to calm down and silently endured Raneb's hands all over her body. When Liv glanced at her she just lowered her eyelashes, hoping it would be enough reassurance for her Love.

"My King," Miranda murmured softly when at last a heavily-breathing Raneb let go of her and slowly walked backwards and straight into the groping hand of Nebka who too pulled her into his lap. Again, she endured the humiliation silently, fighting down the sick feeling as she felt the Prince's member press against her thighs. It felt like an eternity to her until Nebka had enough of his little game and shoved her off his lap. "Get back to your work, slave!" he barked at her.

"My Prince," Miranda whispered and bowed; she kept walking backwards until she was out of reach for anyone at the table. Only then did she turn around and headed back to the kitchen. Once inside and out of view to the party at the banquet, she slumped to the ground and buried her face in her hands, as sobs started to shake her body.

As the door closed behind her with a small thud, Cassandra looked up from her work. "Oh Miranda," she said softly and came over to crouch next to Miranda, pulling her into a hug and rocking her gently.

Liv had simply stared down at her plate and remained quiet as the two men had groped her love and laughed, even though she had a fire of hatred raging inside. She could not believe the display her father and husband-to-be were putting on. She desperately wished she was not to marry this Prince. She just wanted to be left alone with her love forever. Liv breathed a small sigh of relief when Miranda left for the kitchen; at least they had spared her some dignity by not stripping her. She has seen her father do that to slave girls before in the company of guests.

Liv sat there a few moments longer until the men's laughter had subsided and the two had gone back to conversation with the High Priest.

"May I be excused?" Liv asked wiping her mouth and standing, "I am not feeling well. I think I will retire early," she said as she paid her respects to her father and the Prince. Once in the corridor Liv leaned against the wall and put her hand over her mouth as she began to cry uncontrollably. Hiking her gown she ran to her room where she collapsed on her bed and wept.

At long last, Miranda's crying had subsided enough for her to see clearly through the streams of tears again. As she tried to stand, Cassandra put a hand on her shoulder. "No, you stay right where you are. Let me do the work, I've had more than this to do by myself before."

Miranda shook her head. "I need to distract myself," she said quietly but firmly and stood to help her friend clean the kitchen. For a while, Cassandra watched Miranda closely, then she sighed and nodded.

"Alright, you can help me here. But you will not go out there again," she said, "Let me clean the table, you will stay in here."

Miranda gave the other slave a thankful smile. "Thank you, Cassandra," she whispered, "I honestly don't think I could have gone out there again."

"Do not worry," Cassandra said softly and put a hand on Miranda's shoulder, "I will take care of those men outside. And when I come back, you will go to your love. I won't be long." With that, the young woman walked out of the kitchen.
