22 January

Orlando winced as he got a massive blast of hot dry air from the vents above him, when he walked through the front door of the local corner coffee shop. It had been an exceptionally frigid winter, granted, but the cold temperatures outside shouldn’t have been an excuse to flash-bake anyone who entered that establishment.

The little bell above the second interior door jingled pleasantly to announce his arrival. Smelling of freshly baked bread and hot lunches, the place buzzed with joyous noise and snappy jazz music. As he unwound the colorful scarf from about his neck and shoulders, Orlando noticed that no one really seemed to care that he was there. Well, he cared that he could feel his fingers and the tip of his nose again. Not having frostbite was always a good thing.

In search of an empty table, he worked his way through the closely packed tables and the throng of people, some sitting, and some standing, while enjoying their noontime cuppa. There were no tables in his usual spot and he had to backtrack and try another corner of the café. That was full as well. With growing annoyance, Orlando stuffed the scarf into his coat pocket and pinched off his thin gloves. He peered over the crowd only to find one lone seat at an already occupied table.

I was too busy being scalded!

4 February

It was cold and drizzling outside, but that wasn’t enough to cancel the football match. It probably would have taken fire and brimstone hurtling from the heavens to stop the game that afternoon. It promised to be the match up of the year.

“Will you hurry the fuck up, Orli!” Dom yelled to him from kitchen. “I don’t want to be late and have to climb over drunk fuckers to get to my seat!”

I'm quite capable of putting on my socks!
