Overall summary: A forbidden romance set in 1700’s Southern Carolina territory. A middle-aged magistrate, down on his luck and guilty from his previous acts in life, chances upon his next beautiful young clerk in a wretched almshouse. Against his better judgment Viggo brings the fair youth into his life. What has he done to himself? Worse yet, can the obsessed with beauty Viggo control himself? Jealous guilt spreads her midnight wings and waits for her tormented chances.
Chapter 4 Summary: VO 1st POV. Despite his resolve Viggo nearly betrays himself. Luckily Orlando does not notice Viggo’s slip. Their foray into ordering Orlando’s new wardrobe reveals more of Orlando’s interesting personality to Viggo. By the time they prepare to journey South Viggo, to his relief, has tempered his obsessive lust with full respect for Orlando… or so he hopes.
