Hello, it's me again, the moderator.

It seems that you're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't - a number of you complained about the use of banners to advertise stories within this community, so I decided that the easiest thing to do would be to nix the use of banners altogether. After all, there are hundreds (thousands?) of fiction communities out there that manage to get by without the need for banners accompanying their fiction, and to be honest I've never really seen banners used in LJ communities before, so it's a bit of a WTF? to me.

ANYWAY.

Now, people are complaining that I am stifling their creativity by banning their banners. There are threats to pull their stories completely from the community (and I wouldn't be surprised if a splinter community pops up within the week, boasting banner allowances and whatnot - more power to you!), which really isn't necessary. Nobody's saying, "Hey! Stop posting your stories here!" but rather, "Hey! Keep posting your stories, but do us all a favour and keep the graphics behind a cut, yeah?"

Believe it or not, folks, there ARE people out there still on dialup. Or, they have a lovingly crafted layout that's blown all to heck by someone's lovingly crafted image of Dominic's abs against a glowing sunset. Or, they're browsing from work and don't really want to explain why there's a picture of Orlando looking pensive (or thoughtful) next to his one true love, the Balrog, on their PC screen.

Whatever the reason, it all boils down to common courtesy. I honestly don't see the big deal with banners - what's the most important thing you're posting here, anyway? Your story, or the banner you made for it? Fellow_Shippers is a fiction community, not a graphics community, so if you want me to split hairs and be specific and get right down to it: banners aren't the point. The fiction is.

So, keep posting your stories, and keep those banners behind a cut. Or lose them altogether. Or heft up your skirts and flounce from the drawing room in a huff - it's up to you.

The bottom line: Banner graphics and ALL images belong behind a cut. Failure to follow this rule will get you emphatically shouted at by the community's watchdogs. You have now been warned.

I'll add the rule to the community info, just so that there's no more misunderstandings. Yeah?

Right. Off I go, got a plane to Ireland to catch. :-)
