Thanks to a very helpful and wonderful group of individuals for their work on archiving fics everyday (mirrorstaff@yahoogroups.com), Mirrormere has grown to over 1400+ fics. Not to forget the authors who have graciously allowed their fics to be archived or uploaded the fics themselves.
http://avia.silverbloom.net/mirror/The *vast* majority are LOTR RPS but there's a nice group of LOTR FPS as well. I'm asking authors to please make this site as complete as possible.
Currently, the site is only using less than a quarter of its allocated webspace. The site's automated and allows a writer to add/edit/delete their work whenever they desire. For those curious about 'hits' to fics, the site also records how many times an entry has been accessed under a writer's personal account, along with options to instantly email feedback left on-site and other choices.
For those not familiar with the site:
http://avia.silverbloom.net/mirror/help.phpThis page lists a brief overview. Mirrormere is the list archive for LOTR_RPS (
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LOTR_RPS ) but is also an open submission site mostly orientated towards slash. Even though the site deals with LOTR characters and actors, crossovers are allowed. For example, Orlando Bloom/Johnny Depp slash is fine as long as one actor or character was in LOTR.
For those uncomfortable with uploading their own fics but still wish to be archived, you can CC an emailed copy to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mirrormere_archive/There are archivists on this group who have volunteered to archive fics submitted on behalf of authors.
Again, like any fic submitted to a group, it's asked that writers please keep their 'story template' attached in the main body of the fic. Printouts and file saves of the 'printer-friendly' option doesn't keep index information. Also, some sort of 'fin/end' or 'tbc' or some ending mark (in journalism, it's supposedly -30-) at the end [of each part] would help reassure readers all of the fic was copied over... just as it helps email readers confirm the message wasn't cut off.
