"Have
you always worn glasses?"
"Yeah," Elijah nodded. "My mom said I was blind as a bat when I
was born. So blind I couldn't even find her nipple. Not that you needed to know
that."
Elijah shrugged, enjoying his eye sight coming back into focus as
"Why?" Elijah asked, letting his head roll back to expose more skin
for
"Just curious,"
"I'll call tonight," Elijah offered, letting his hand run through
"Won't be home,"
"Oh," Elijah frowned. "Can I come?"
"Well…"
"I thought you hated American sports," Elijah let his frown deepen,
feeling something uneasy stir inside of him.
"I do,"
"Popular guys?" Elijah asked, watching
"Yeah, popular guys."
"Right," Elijah sighed softly.
"Listen Lij… you're just not part of that crowd… you'd feel awkward and
I'd hate for you to feel like that,"
"But… I mean… it's not that you're embarrassed to be around me…?"
Elijah looked sheepishly down.
"No!"
"Just something Dom said…"
Elijah nodded and let
Elijah stared after the retreating form, frowning lightly and feeling quiet
unsure about the situation.
~I've never been jealous of the popular guys. You see, I've developed some sort
of theory – possibly a little twisted – that the popular boys are actually
jealous of me.
I never have to dress to impress anyone. And I never have to keep up this
perfect façade of whatever. I've actually got it easy.
But they have to dress in the most popular clothes. Talk the right way, walk
the right way… it just sounds so unappealing.
So I've never been jealous of the popular guys. Until now.~

Elijah raised an eyebrow at him, waiting for him to go on.
"I got a call last night… you'll never guess who's coming to visit!" Elijah
gulped.
~I've never been jealous of someone's ex-boyfriend before. Until now.
Shit. What the fuck am I gonna do?!?
The fabulous Eric is coming to town. The one
But now… he's coming here. For a whole week! To visit. And god… how can I ever
compare with him?
I'm just geeky – loser Elijah who's never gonna be any better then
Shit. I'm screwed.~

"Mom?" Elijah had thought long and hard on it, deciding that the
subject needed to be approached carefully but definitely soon.
"Yes Elijah?" She was semi-distracted, poring over papers from the
accounting office she now worked at.
"Do you think…" Elijah cleared his throat, taking a small sip of the
milk he'd poured with his dinner. "Maybe… I could get contacts?"
"And how do you plan on paying for them?" Mrs. Wood looked up and
Elijah had tried not to visibly flinch. She wasn't supposed to ask that now.
"Well… I figured…" Elijah took another sip of the milk for
confidence. It didn't work. Money topics were serious in his family, he wasn't
sure this was even worth bringing up. But then some mental imagine of Eric
flashed in his mind and he continued on. "I'm starting work at the library
in a couple weeks… maybe you could forward the money and I could pay you
back…"
"Why don't you wait for your first pay check?" She questioned,
slipping her glasses up to perch on her head.
"Because…" Elijah whined, not able to help it. "Eric will be
gone by then and there will be no point!"
"Eric?" She frowned, looking puzzled at him. "Who's Eric?"
"
"Oh…" her face took on an understanding look. "Ex-boyfriend?"
Elijah sighed, nodded. That was his mother, so typical. When he told her
Orlando and him were just friends, she'd guessed right off that they were
dating and he fessed up. No use lying if she supported him.
"Oh Lij…" his mother laughed and – to his surprise – reached for her
purse. "Alright. But make sure you pay me back fully. Oh, and promise me
one thing?"
"Anything!" Elijah answered eagerly.
"Don't lose who you are to fit in," she smiled wisely. "No guy
is worth that."
Elijah nodded and hopped up, hugging her and pressing a kiss to her forward. He
slipped the offered credit card in his pocket and was just about to head off
before he stopped and slowly grinned. "One more thing?"
His mom laughed, already sliding her glasses back on. "Keys are on the
hall table. Be careful!"
"I will!" He called with a grin and headed off in victory

"Listen Lij… you're just not part of that crowd… you'd feel awkward and I'd hate for you to feel like that," Orlando reached up and patted Elijah's cheek.
Could you patronize him a little more Orli? I don't think he feels quite inadequate enough yet! I just wanns knock him around. And we all know that's not really true... and if it is... Orli's a fucking idiot. Lij wouldn't be so uncomfortable if Orlando made him feel comfortable. Orlando just doesn't think Elijah will fit in with his friends...
I'm livid.
great job, takes a lot to get me worked up...
I cant wait for more... i hope orlando gets a reality check soon and I'm really with elijahs mom here... no guy is worth losing yourself...
