Dominic felt that serenity had taken over Billy and Elijah during the last seven days. He'd hoped he would find the time to settle his mind with some days off the set, far away from Tolkien´s dreamland, but it hadn't happened. Dom was still as twitchy as ever and not able to enjoy their 'lazy days', as Billy liked to call them. So Dom had started to stroll the beach in the restless hours between breakfast and noon, collecting mussels and contemplating his life.
Contemplating his life! For fuck´s sake, you're not supposed to review your life at the age of 23. But maybe that was exactly what he needed and after seven days he finally had to admit to himself that his life was lacking something of real importance.
***
It's the eighth and last day of their holidays. Dominic has just returned from the beach having
taken a last walk to make his silent goodbye to the sea. Now, he stands in the huge garden of their hotel and watches Billy in the pool.
Slipping out of his flip-flops and pulling his sun-bleached tee shirt over his head to throw it
carelessly on the sun chair next to where Elijah seems to be fast asleep, Dom walks over to the pool and stands there for some seconds, watching the blue-silver water surface. Billy hasn't noticed him yet, he's in the middle of the pool, his back turned towards Dom, just standing there as if in meditation. Dominic can't bear it anymore. The small whispering voice of the gurgling water sends shivers down his spine. He needs more noise, any kind of sound is better than this.
When Dominic jumps into the pool, the sudden shock of being surrounded by cool, smooth water grips at his lungs. He sees the turquoise reflections of the tiles, refracting into a blue-white pattern before his eyes. Tiny air bubbles rising up around his head distract him from reality.
Suddenly there's a body in front of him, an arm extends to grab him by the shoulder and pull him upwards and to a place of the pool where the water is more shallow. Dominic breaks through the surface and his mouth opens automatically to suck the air greedily into his burning lungs. Billy is only a mere blur in front of him, reduced to a bronzen shadow.
"You alright, Dom?" Billy asks. His voices seem far too clear after the dullness of the water. Dom's vision begins to sharpen, he looks up with water still dribbling down his face. And maybe, Dom suddenly thinks, maybe he spent a few seconds too long with his head underwater, because Billy's eyes are worried and-
and there's something else. No, not something else. 'It' and Dominic doesn't realize that he said it aloud. Only the confusion now mixed into Billy's features tells him that he must have whispered this tiny word. It´s not desire Dom sees in Billy's eyes and it is neither love nor passion.
It's just it.
"Dominic?"
But Dom doesn't give an answer to this. He just stands here in the pool while the water ripples around their waists and looks into Billy's eyes. Only his eyes, because they reveal everything Dominic never expected them to.
"Fuck," Dominic mutters and steps forward, trying to close the distance that separates him from Billy in one swift motion, but the water resists his whole body, as if it would try to hold
him back. Dom fights against it and suddenly their chests and forearms are touching.
Billy doesn't tense when Dom´s skin brushes over his own, he just keeps on looking into Dom´s eyes. Dom feels the moment he lets his guard down and lets Billy see what's going
on inside of him.
And thank God, Billy doesn't back off.
Instead, he tilts his head towards Dom, a look of determination on his face. When his breath rushes over Dom´s chin and lips, cooling them soothingly, Dom suddenly realizes that Billy is going to kiss him.
Yeah, a kiss. A kiss would be good now. It will reassure him that Billy is real, that what Billy's showing Dom right here at this moment is real. So Dominic leans forward and Billy's eyes seem to shift into a deeper shade of green.
When their lips meet in the midst of the hot summer air, it's as if the waves of the rough sea have moved into the pool making Dom tremble.
He's suddenly thankful for Billy's hands, which take hold on his waist. They wander further over his hipbones, glide along the small of his back and continue further down. Simultaneously, they both open their lips to let each other inside.
Everything is new. It's like his first kiss again. The taste, the sensation, even the smell is utterly new and unexpected. Dom pours everything he has into this kiss, trying not to think about how Billy will react. He's rewarded with Billy's similar reply, which isn't tender at all. Billy bites down onto Dom´s bottom lip, sucking on it untill Dom has the feeling that the soft flesh begins to swell.
Dominic moans into the kiss, their lips part for a second to take a much needed breath. Then Dom lifts his hand to Billy's neck and pulls him back to continue their kiss.
This is perfect, this is completion, thinks Dom. He can feel Billy's tongue travel along his own, snaking it's way over his teeth. Dom begins to suck on it until he has the feeling of swallowing, taking the older man and Dom is all too lucky to be claimed by Billy's mouth in return.
Dom might ask himself why they are kissing like this, and why neither of them is complaining about the way it is happenning, but the consequences are just not of interest while Dominic basks in Billy´s presence.
Dominic can't tell how long they're kissing. The kiss just goes on and on.
On and on...
***
Outside the pool, Elijah is still lying on his sun chair, eyes closed against the sun shining down on him, burning the pale skin of his back and shoulders and Elijah is quite sure that it's going to hurt tonight when he steps under the cold spray of the hotel shower.
He sees Dom and Billy standing in the pool and when he finally realises that they actually are standing too close to each other it's already too late. They're kissing, Dom's right arm around Billy's neck pulling him even closer, two bodies who trying to fuse into each other. Billy's hands are beneath the surface of the water, only the light shifting of the muscles in his upper arms and shoulders tells Elijah that they're occupied with things that make his groin stir. Elijah doesn't dare to shift his body; even breathing is a hard task.
Elijah feels a sudden disappointment like a tight knot in his chest. Domininc had spent last
summer by his side. But now Dominic's chosen Billy. A wise choice, Elijah thinks, because
it's Billy who seemed always to be able to give Dominic something he lacked. Elijah had known this for a long time, but he'd tried to deny it, to fight back and bind Dominic to himself. He had fail miserably.
"It." Elijah exhales slightly, still too frightened to admit what he couldn't give Dom at the time. While Dom and Billy are still kissing Elijah closes his eyes, not to shut out the sight of them being together, but to relax, to give in to peace. This is not the time to mourn over something he wasn´t supposed to have with Dominic.
When Elijah finally falls asleep again his dreams are full of cool blue tiles and heated mouths, making his body yearn to be either Dom or Billy. He doesn't care, as long as he'd be able to feel their devotion for each other.
