Elijah decided that it would be his goal the following day to make things okay again, but Orlando had other plans.

Plans that involved avoiding him like the plague.

Tuesday he wasn't in first block English – the only class they had together. At lunch he made sure to be continuously surrounded by football jocks and googly eyed girls.

After school he was long gone before Elijah could even get out of the surprisingly crowded hallway.

On Wednesday Orlando repeated the process, only this time he made eye contact.

And his eyes looked pained.

On Thursday he was in first hour but came early and charmed the teacher into letting them move seats.

On Friday that sickening crowd of people kept Elijah from Orlando all day.

Only – that night they were supposed to get together to tutor.

Elijah showed up in hopes that Orlando would too.

~I've never regretted offending someone like I did Orlando.

I've never defined my sexuality. I mean, I've liked boys before… more boys then I have girls…

Wait…

I've never really liked a girl before.~

"Hi." A stiff 'I really don't want to be here' tone of voice made Elijah look up from his book.

"You came?" Elijah said in surprise, snapping the Never Book shut and sliding it into his bag.

"I could leave if that'd be better for you," Orlando took a step back from the table.

Elijah reached out and grabbed his wrist. "Wait, please don't. I – Orlando… I didn't mean to be rude. Not now or before. I'm just… sit… I'll explain it to you."

Orlando sat – which Elijah took as a good sign. He took in a deep breath, his eyes scanning over the curves of Orlando's face, trying to memorize its shape – as if he hadn't already done that a million times before.

Another deep inhale of that suddenly sweet oxygen made his eyes flutter slightly.

Orlando opened his mouth then closed it – as if deciding he'd rather wait than question the boy's silence.

One final breath and Elijah spoke. "I'm not too… popular Orlando. Seriously. I mean – I've always been the geeky kid at our school. Really. So – you waltz into our school, become the most popular boy in half a day… and then befriend me. I just can't help thinking… well… why?"

"I like you," Orlando shrugged, smiling softly as if he had some secret and leaned back in his chair with a cross of his ankles and fold of his arms. "There's something spunky and unusual about you. I mean – you're smart and I have fun with you. I don't see why I should not hang out with you just because some label has been slapped on you."

Elijah blinked, feeling his heart speed up in that way that made him feel all tingly warm somewhere deep inside. "Oh… okay…"

Orlando grinned in his somewhat infamous – sexy – all-star way. Then he pulled out his English book, flipping open to the page they had last left.

* + *

As if it were a tradition, 9:30 found Orlando and Elijah sliding into a back booth in the Burger Hut.

"So why did you move here?" Elijah asked, dipping his French fry into a small container of ranch dressing, then popping it happily into mouth.

Orlando looked around, as if taking in the environment, then turned back to Elijah – pushing around a little hill of salt with on fry. "Well… it's a long story…"

"So?" Elijah raised an eyebrow, speaking around another deliciously greasy – ranch soaked fry. He didn't remember the Burger Hut's food tasting as it good as it did when he was eating it with Orlando.

However sappy that was.

"Alright," Orlando gave a short nod before brushing his hands together in a not too helpful way of getting grease off. "Well… my parents like to um… travel and recently they got this crazy idea to go to all these… African villages to help out there. But I still had my senior year of High School left… so they shipped me out here to live with my only living relative. My grandfather. See, my dad really never wanted a kid – he always had his mind set on traveling all his life – but my mom got pregnant, and there was nothing they could do but have a kid. He was alright for awhile but I guess the longing to get the hell out of that busy London town finally got to him."

Elijah nodded, taking a large sip from his coke. "That must be really hard."

"Well – it's not too bad," Orlando shrugged, though his eyes betrayed him. He looked like he was in some inner – 'god why am I talking about this?' – pain. "My dad was always there for me, you know? It's not like he's a bad father. He never… abandoned me or anything."

Elijah looked at him for a long – hard – moment. "My  dad never abandoned me."

Orlando looked startled, like he was coming out of some distant – deep – thought. "Oh… no I didn't mean that…"

Slowly Elijah nodded, unsure of the ping he felt in his heart. Things with his dad had always been a little rough but he never remembered someone else's opinion bugging him before. Why did he care so much what Orlando thought of him?

"Hey? You're not mad are you?" Orlando looked concerned, reaching across the table and resting his hand over Elijah's.

Elijah looked down at it, feeling that tingle swoosh wave of 'who knows what.' He cleared his throat and forced himself to not twist his hand so his palm could brush Orlando's. His eyes were taking in that drastic change in pale skin to tan. Elijah wondered what nationality Orlando was to get that skin color.

"Elijah?" Worry seeped from Orlando's voice, his fingers squeezing softly around Elijah's hand.

Everything that seemed witty and intelligent in his mind seemed to fly away.

Go fucking figure.

"Whoa… Elijah?" Orlando ducked his head down, trying to meet Elijah's glassy blue yes. "You're definitely freaking me out."

Elijah finally pulled his hand out from under Orlando 's, blinking up at him. "Uh… sorry… what?"

A loud laugh escaped Orlando's lips, his head thrown back in amusement. His eyes were wet with tears by the time the laughter slowly died. "Whew… that was awesome."

Elijah – who had been staring at Orlando in horror during his entire reaction – blinked and let his head fall down on the table with a loud 'thunk.'

The laughter ceased abruptly then slowly formed into a less amused chuckle. "Um… you okay?"

"Yeahmmm…" Elijah mumbled into then table. Slowly he looked up, his heart skipping – racing – at the truly amused smile there on Orlando's face. God… this was just too much. He needed to get out of here. "I should go," standing quickly he grabbed his tray – heading for the trash can.

Orlando stood, rushing to follow, "Hey man, what the hell is up? You're really creeping me out."

Elijah let Orlando follow him out the door – and halfway down the street. Fully unaware of how close Orlando was following until he stopped suddenly and a body came full flush – shoulders hips butts – arms around waist to keep from falling.

Elijah's breath left him in a deep woosh. Part of him was getting sick of this tingly vibration sensation – the other part of him was throbbing for more.

Slowly he turned so their bodies were suddenly chest to chest – hip to hip. He cleared his throat, ready to step back but was stopped by hands on his waist.

"Elijah," Orlando whispered, swallowing.

"Uh huh?" Elijah's eyes moved up down up from eyes lips eyes. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knew that they were in the middle of the street.

"I think you should uh… know something," Orlando whispered, his fingers tracing meaningless patterns on his waist.

"Uh huh."

'Am I sounding witty yet?' The question popped into Elijah's mind and he marveled at the way he'd thought of anything at all.

Check – contrary popular to belief – his brain still worked.

"I'm gay," a breathy whisper.

Stop

Rewind

Replay.

Yup, he heard that right.

How to react?

The best thing to do would probably be to step back and talk rationally about all of this.

"Good," was all he whispered before he brought his lips up to Orlando's.

They pressed there, still – waiting – unsure.

Then he pulled back.

His lips tingled so he ran his tongue over them.

Then suddenly lips were on his. Hard firm proud – tasting and teasing. A tongue followed, then poked inside soft pink lips.

A moan escaped Elijah's lips as his arms came up and wrapped around Orlando's back, pulling him closer. He felt an earth shattering, world spinning, moon exploding, sun vanishing, ice age, world war, nuclear bomb, death star, out of this world, nothing will ever be better slam straight to his every nerve and pulse.

Slowly he pulled back and let his tongue run once. Twice. Three times over his lips, drawing in that Burger Hut more Orlando than not taste. "Whoa…"

"Uh huh," Orlando nodded. Elijah met his eyes and saw everything he was feeling.

"I should… home…" Elijah breathed, aware dimly of Orlando's fingers still on his waist, his own hands flat on Orlando's back.

"Tomorrow?"

"Yeah?"

Orlando pressed his lips to Elijah's, sliding up down and around. Their tongues touched slide danced before he slowly pulled back. "Cool."

Then he turned and walked off down the road, leaving Elijah with the lingering tingle of squeezed hands on his waist.

~I just had my first kiss.

I never thought anything could be better then chocolate.

Then Star Wars.

Then nachos.

Then long hot showers on freezing cold days.

But…

I guess there is.~

That's weird, I was just thinking last night, I want to read this fic again, and I thought I was going to have to go hunting for it, but there it was! What a coincidence.

I love it, all of it, but especially this;

'Am I sounding witty yet?'

Hehehe

This is so freaking awesome. I can't wait for the next chapter.

The way it came up it looked like you were going to end it with "I think you should uh… know something," Orlando whispered, his fingers tracing meaningless patterns on his waist.

"Uh huh."

I was spazing out, and then I realized there was more ::blush:: Really fantastic, anyway.

Oh my. How I love this fic. If this fic were a boy or girl, I'd marry it.

And:
"A moan escaped Elijah's lips as his arms came up and wrapped around Orlando's back, pulling him closer. He felt an earth shattering, world spinning, moon exploding, sun vanishing, ice age, world war, nuclear bomb, death star, out of this world, nothing will ever be better slam straight to his every nerve and pulse."
