Ali smiled at the pure joy that was radiating from Billy's face. Just then, two seven year old bundles of energy bounded into the room, followed by their other dad. "Ali!" squealed Maggie as she ran over for a hug. "Are you going to stay with us tonight?" Her blue-gray eyes sparked with happiness.
"Yep," replied Ali. I'm all yours until your dads get back."
"All right! Video games and ice cream!" shouted Matthew, his green eyes lighting up at the thought of the fun night to come.
"You're glowing, love," Dom said as he walked over to Billy and gave him a light kiss.
"Billy was telling me how you two got together," said Ali. "So romantic. And scary. I'd like to fall in love like the two of you, but under different circumstances."
"Someday, Ali. Someday when you least expect it," smiled Billy as he and Dom put their coats on and headed for the front door.
"Thanks again for babysitting. You're the best." Dom kissed Ali's cheek.
"My pleasure," she said as Billy kissed her other cheek. "You two go and have a good time."
The two men walked towards the car hand in hand. They stopped and faced each other. Dom's free hand came up and touched Billy's face, while Billy moved his hand to Dom's hip, caressing the area over the scar from the stab wound. They looked in each others eyes for a long moment, then came together for a soft, tender, loving kiss.
Ali watched them from the window. "Happy anniversary," she whispered before turning away.
