Chapter 2

Billy read the note again. There was no signature, and it was computer printed. His mind started spinning as he realized that some unknown (to him) person had gotten into the wardrobe department and put the CD and note into his (Pippin's) coat pocket. He went into a bit of a shock, and just stood and stared at the note for several moments.

The other hobbits finally noticed him standing there. "Billy, what's wrong?" Sean asked. "You look like that paper is going to bite you or something." Billy wordlessly handed the note to him. He read it, then passed it to Dom and Elijah.

"I knew it!" Elijah shouted, glad to finally be right about something. "I knew you had a secret admirer! Someone's got a crush on you, Billy!" He didn't realize Billy was upset.

"Shut up, Lij!" Dom snapped.

"Can't you see Billy's a little freaked out right now?" Sean added.

Elijah looked over and saw that Billy was rather pale underneath all his make-up. "Sorry."

Dom walked over and put his arm around Billy's shoulders. "Bills?" he said softly.

"It was in the pocket," Billy said, brushing his hand over his Pippin coat. "With this." He showed them the CD.

"Mozart," Sean said. "You told us yesterday that was one of your favorites." The hobbits looked at each other, but before they could talk more about this strange situation they were called to the set.

*****

Break time found all the members of the fellowship, and assorted other cast and crew, once again eating together in the meal tent. The hobbits were very quiet, which was extremely unusual, and this did not go unnoticed by their friends.

"Alright, you four," Viggo pointed at the hobbits with his fork. "You have been very well behaved this morning, which is totally unlike you. What gives?"

Dom, Elijah and Sean all looked at Billy. He was staring at his plate, pushing the food around but not really eating - which was another unusual thing as Billy had an amazing appetite.

Sean finally looked over at Viggo and said "Billy found something in his pocket this morning."

"Did it bite?" laughed Orlando, who turned crimson and quickly ducked his head when Elijah looked at him.

"No," Elijah said, "but it may as well have."

"What was it?" Viggo asked.

Billy looked up at him. "A CD - Mozart. I left it with my clothes in wardrobe."

"And the problem is?" Viggo pressed.

"Show him the note," Sean said. Billy pulled the paper from his pocket. He had been looking at it every chance he could, hoping that some clue as to who had given it to him would miraculously appear. He handed it over to Viggo.

"Hmm - I guess you do have a secret admirer as Elijah said yesterday. Wonder who it could be." Viggo said.

"Uhm," Sean began. "I've been thinking -"

"What a surprise," Bean interjected, rather sarcastically.

Sean shot him a dirty look. "I think the person who gave this to Billy is somebody here - a crew person or extra, or even one of us."

"Why do you think that?" asked Dom.

"Well, yesterday at lunch we were talking about our favorite music. Billy said classical was his favorite, and specifically mentioned Mozart. The CD in his pocket was a Mozart CD. It has to be someone who heard that, because I really don't think that is the kind of music you would just randomly pick to give to someone."

"I know I wouldn't," agreed Elijah.

"Plus," Sean continued, "it was in Pippin's coat in the costume trailer. Security is pretty good around here - I don't think they would let a stranger wander around near the set, and even if they did, who would know which trailer the costumes were in, let alone find the right coat without making a mess in there? So it must be someone familiar enough with security, the set, and where Pippin's stuff is, right?"

"Good theory," said Viggo.

"I bet it's Elijah!" proclaimed Orlando.

"What?! It is not!" Elijah shouted back. "Why would you think it's me?"

"You were the one who brought up this whole 'secret admirer' thing. I never even heard of secret admirers until you explained it at the pub last night."

"Huh - like you were sober enough to hear anything I said - although you were paying other sorts of attention to me all night." Orlando blushed yet again at this statement. "Maybe it's you - you got the idea from hearing me talk about it." Elijah looked pretty smug.

"No way!" Orlando said.

"Could we not argue here?" Dom yelled at them. He had put his arm around Billy again, as if to protect him.

Billy looked around at the others. "I don't know if I should be relieved that it is probably someone I know, or if that should worry me," he said.

"Try not to worry, Billy," Viggo told him. "Whoever it is has to deal with all of your friends if they try anything funny. We'll look out for you."

"I know. Thanks," Billy said, giving a slight smile.

*****

As he promised, Billy went to the pub with the others that night. After all, he thought, nothing like a few drinks to take my mind off things. He happily sat in a booth, squeezed between Dom and Viggo, drinking scotch and watching Elijah and Orlando. It actually was quite funny as the longer the night went on the more Orlando drank, and the more Orlando drank the more he hit on Elijah. The two were currently grinding obscenely on the dance floor. Viggo was watching them, too, getting more and more tense as the night progressed.

"You okay there, Bills?" Dom leaned over so Billy could hear him over the noise in the pub. He was uncharacteristically sober, still nursing his first beer as compared to Billy's sixth scotch. He seemed to have appointed himself Billy's guardian for the night.

"Yep. Fine. Never better. Thank you very much." Billy's words were slurred together.

"I think it's time to get you home now. You've had enough to drink." Dom got up, pulling Billy with him.

"Never enough scotch!" Billy protested.

Dom grabbed Billy by the elbow and led him to the car. They went back to Billy's place, where Dom helped Billy into his bedroom. Billy stripped to his boxers and lay down on the bed. Dom pulled the covers up over him.

"Stay?" Billy asked.

"I'll be on the couch if you need me," said Dom.

"Okay. Thanks, Dom," Billy looked up at him. "You know, for looking after me and all."

Dom smiled at him. "Anytime, Bills. After all, what's a good mate for?" He headed out to the living room. shutting the bedroom door behind him. Billy was asleep before the latch clicked.

*****

A few hours later -

The person tip-toed across the porch carefully, trying not to make any sounds. They had wrapped the note around the bottle and secured it with a rubber band. They put the bottle in front of the door. Billy would find it when he came out for the morning paper. The person smiled and tip-toed away.

*****

Billy woke up when the sunlight hit his face. He lay in bed for a moment, gathering his bearings. He decided he wasn't terribly hung over, and slowly got out of bed. He made a stop in the bathroom, then headed to the kitchen to put the kettle on for tea. Dom was still sleeping on the couch, and Billy didn't want to wake him. He very quietly opened the front door to retrieve his newspaper. He looked down and saw the bottle wrapped in the note. After glancing up and down the street in the hopes of catching a glimpse of who may have left it, he picked up the bottle and newspaper and headed back to the kitchen. He sat down at the table, removed the note from the bottle, and read it.

Billy-

I'm sorry if I scared you by leaving you the CD. I didn't mean to frighten you. Please forgive me.

I know you are wondering what is going on. Well, you see, ever since I met you I have liked you. You are cute and funny and nice. And you seemed so sad lately, and that makes me sad. So I want to make you happy. I want to see you smile and be funny again.

I love your smile, Billy. You have the sweetest face when you smile, and your beautiful green eyes twinkle and shine. My heart is racing just thinking about it.

I think I am falling in love with you, Billy. No - I know I am. And I want you to love me, too. I'm going to make you love me, Billy. I am going to keep giving you gifts and notes until you are happy and you can't help but fall in love with me.

And we will live happily ever after, just like in the stories my mom read to me when I was little. I know we will.

I'm not going to tell you who I am yet.. I will save that for when you say you love the person who gave you all these gifts and made you the happiest man on earth. Then I will reveal myself as the best gift of all.

Until then -

All my love

"What a surprise," Bean interjected, rather sarcastically. I love sarcastic Beanie!! So funny. That note is sort of....how do I want to say this...creepy? But not like in a scary/stalker way. (That doesn't make sense does it?!?!) Its really flattering to Billy and its sweet, but its just sort of creepy with the whole:

I will save that for when you say you love the person who gave you all these gifts and made you the happiest man on earth.

But I still think I can guess!!! In the title you said

I hope it's not Dom, because that last note was a bit creepy..."make" him love them? Ooo. Bad choice of words on their part. Still, I kinda like this.
