Chapter: 1
Prologue
Billy could hear the others as he approached the make-up trailer. It sounded like they were having a party. He sighed, wondering how anyone could be so energetic at 5:30 in the morning. Okay, so at first he was as excited as the rest of them - this whole adventure of coming to New Zealand to make these films - but it had been a few weeks now, and the novelty of waking up at ridiculous hours to be converted into a hobbit had worn off.
He sighed again and plastered a smile on his face as he opened the door. "Billy!" "Hey Bills!" A rousing chorus greeted him. "Good morning," he responded back. He stepped into the trailer and headed over to the counter to make himself a cup of tea. Once the tea was in hand he walked over to his chair to begin the process of becoming Pippin.
Next to him, Dom was being transformed into Merry - his fellow hobbit-in-crime. "We missed you at the pub last night, Billy," he said. "Orli got tanked and started hitting on Lij." Elijah blushed and everyone laughed.
"Yeah," Elijah chuckled. "Either I'm prettier than I think I am, or there's something Orli's not telling us." This sparked an energetic discussion of the sexual habits of their fellow cast mates. Billy just sat back and listened.

Several hours later Billy and the others were in the lunch tent. It had been a long morning of filming and they were all glad for the break. Dom and Elijah resumed their conversation from earlier, but Sean didn’t join in. Instead, he looked at Billy, then leaned towards him. “You okay, Billy?” he asked with concern in his voice.
“I’m alright,” Billy responded, but obviously not very convincingly as the others stopped talking and looked at him.
“I don’t know,” Sean said back. “You didn’t come out with us last night, and you’ve been awfully quiet today. Maybe you’re getting sick.”
“You’re definitely not up to your usual Pippinness today,” put in Dom.
“Pippinness?” Elijah looked at Dom.
“You know - perky, fun loving, innocent. Pippinness.” Dom explained.
“I’m okay, really,” said Billy. “I’m just a little tired. Tough for an old bloke like me to keep up with you lads.” He added a wink and a grin, provoking smiles all around.
“Gee, maybe we should ask Pete to get you a rocking chair for between takes, eh?” Elijah teased. Billy stuck his tongue out at him.
“And maybe we ought to replace your tea with prune juice at breakfast,” Dom chimed in, earning him a smack to the head from Billy.
“Billy . . .” Sean started, still looking at Billy with concern.
“Don’t be such a worry-wart, Seanie,” Billy said. “I told you I’m just a little tired. That’s all.”
“Well, okay. If you’re sure you’re not sick.” Sean still didn’t look convinced. Neither did the others.
“I’m fine,” Billy insisted. “Don’t mind me. A few good night’s sleeps and I will be back to full - uh - Pippinness.”
Sean, Dom and Elijah were still not convinced that Billy was alright, but they let the matter drop. At least Billy thought they did, however, the rest of the day they watched him, and one of them was always by his side during breaks, keeping an eye on him, no matter where the others went.

Finally, filming ended for the day and they all headed back to the trailer to be de-hobbitized. “So you going to stay home again tonight, Bills?” Dom asked.
“Yep,” said Billy. “Tired old man, remember?”
“Want some company? We can order takeout and watch movies or something.”
“No thanks, Dom. I’m just going to watch some television and go to bed. You go out and have fun.”
They reached the trailer and stepped inside. The make-up crew were all standing around, smiling.
“What’s up?” Elijah asked.
“Well, we came in to get ready for you guys and found this,” one of the girls said, pointing at Billy’s seat. The four hobbits looked at where she was indicating. There, right in the middle of the seat, was a large bouquet of wildflowers.
“Where did these come from?” asked Billy.
“Dunno,” another one of the girls said. “We didn’t see who put them there - they were on your seat when we came in.”
“OOH Billy,” squeaked Elijah. “You have a secret admirer!”
