One Track Mind-Orlijah-Elijah Gen.-PG-13

Author: Mandalyn
Title: One Track Mind.
Pairing: Orlijah. Elijah gen. Kind of.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Hearts and thoughts don’t fade away, for Elijah.
Disclaimer: And I love, am a pathological liar.

Elijah sat on the bottom of the stairwell, and lit a cigarette. He lolled his head in a circle and heard the audible cracking of the vertebrae in his neck. He inhaled and exhaled mechanically, staring blankly out into the sun. It had been weeks, now. Weeks. And still, he couldn’t sleep properly, couldn’t eat much, couldn’t think of anything else except the way it felt to lie side by side with Orlando, looking into those deep wells of honeyed brown.
He wished suddenly to be more scatterbrained, and to have a mind that didn’t travel on one, lonely track. Life without passion. Without joy. Without softsweetlustful kisses. Without Orlando. He knew that he was being foolish. Orlando would always be a part of his life. They had ended it as friends, even though Elijah hadn’t had the heart to accept any invitation to see him, yet.
He didn’t know if he could sit across from Orlando at a table and not be able to reach across the short distance and twine his hand with his own. It was a very depressing thought, even imagining the restrictions of friendship, let alone having to truly experience the severing of so much joy.
The cigarette had burned down to the filter. Elijah tossed it a few feet in front of him, and rested his head within his hands. Struggled not to cry. Lost the battle.
They didn’t come in great wracking sobs, these tears, unlike the first few days after Orlando had left. They just slid down his cheeks, now, and it was almost cooling. Almost like being free.
His cellular rang. Elijah didn’t rush to extract it from his pocket, and he looked at the caller ID carefully. Billy, it read in black digital lettering. He answered with a weak and pallid, “Hey, Bills.”
“ Lighe? You don’t sound so well. We were supposed to meet for coffee earlier. Did’ja forget?”
Elijah furrowed his brow. Yes, he had made plans the day before to have a nice chat and a latte with the Scot.
“ M’Sorry, Billy. I…I slept pretty late.”
“ What time did ya fall asleep last night, Elijah? Are you still not sleeping at night? You gotta do something about..”
Elijah stared vacantly at the sun, a solitary tear still sliding down his cheek. He had heard the very same sermon from Dominic and Sean and Viggo and it was damn tiring.
“ Lighe?”
“ Sorry.” Elijah said again with no heart. “ I was thinking.”
“ That’s your problem. Too much of that.”
Not really. Not really. Elijah pondered what it would be like to think of anything but Orlando. It would probably be a great relief.
“ Listen, Elijah. Dom and I are going to come on over and take you to see a film. Or…” Elijah could imagine Billy looking at his watch and wincing, after he said
“ We’ll just bring over some beer. Would that be okay?”
Elijah almost laughed. He had been continuously drunk for about two weeks, at that point. Alcohol wasn’t exactly effective, these days.
“ Yeah. Sure…Yeah.”
Elijah hit the end button and studied the worn fabric of his converse. Wiped away the last of his tears. He went inside the house and fixed himself a tall glass of whiskey.
Started the party early.
