andrealyn wanted me to write a fic. So I wrote her this one. I hope it's up to what you wanted, missy. Also, thanks, as always, to
lionessfreedom for the quick beta.
Dom dug his toes into the hot sand, feeling each grain give way as he tunneled his way to the cooler sand underneath. The sun was shining high in the sky and the heat was making him groggy enough to consider even nodding off. After a few more minutes of watching his toes wiggle in and out of the sand, he finally laid back, pulling his sunglasses down as he went.
The sand wasn't as hot as it normally was, even with the sun beating down so brightly on the surrounding area. He knew lying as he was meant that he would be taking doubly long in the shower, especially considering the fact his back was still wet from a mixture of his own sweat and salt water. He was almost begging for a layer of grain and seashell particles to attach itself to his skin. But it didn't really matter much - as he was at the beach and Billy was there and he was relaxing. There was nothing more to make the day perfect, really.
Billy was still out in the surf, trying to act like he was a pro at riding the waves. He zipped along the barrels with awkward ease, falling as much as he was catching them. Dom sat up a little to catch sight of his friend snag a particularly good wave. His body, even from afar, moved in a fluid, graceful way as he did cuts and turns on it. He lasted only a little bit on it before his showing off caused him to fall off, but the time he had been up had been impressive. Billy was getting better at surfing than Dom, it seemed.
His head finally bobbed above the surface in an area Dom could see him, and he came to shore wiping at his eyes and sputtering a little, probably trying to shake off the salt water to stop the stinging. Dom sat up, feeling a pound of sand come up with him, as Billy approached and watched as he placed his board down and sat down next to him. His wet suit looked like it was molded to his body and Dom reached up and plucked just a little bit of seaweed out of his messed up hair, throwing it aside with a slight chuckle.
"Had enough?" Dom asked, grinning good-humoredly.
"Just taking a wee break." Billy answered, stretching himself out. He ran a hand over his salt-filled hair and tried to scruff it up to at least look a little presentable. "Going out again soon. Any food left?"
In the few hours they had been there, they had apparently gone through their entire food supply, as Dom realized when he noticed nothing left. He shook his head sympathetically and Billy just shrugged, probably still too tired to get annoyed by Dom's tendency to pick at food when it was nearby. He knew he would get some amount of berating as soon as Billy was up to it.
They sat in contented silence, the sounds of the waves crashing against the shore and the birds flying overhead filling in for them. The great thing about Billy was that Dom felt like he could talk to him without talking, and as each second ticked by Dom felt more comfortable than less with the lapse of communication. Billy yawned idly, probably feeling the effects Dom had felt earlier, and stretched again, his back arching until, Dom guessed, the stiffness that he was stretching out had inwardly fixed itself. He yawned and relaxed his body when he was apparently satisfied with the results.
The movements made Dom want to stretch too, but instead he just yawned and looked down at his slightly browned stomach idly. He hadn't worn his wet suit for once and his usually pale white skin was starting to take on the color that he still wasn't used to. He didn't complain that he turned the color though, especially with Billy sitting next to him. Billy's skin tended to burn easily, and even with all the sunscreen he put on his face already was turning slightly reddish in color. Dom would never dare tease him about it, of course, as the last time he did he almost got hit in the head with the sunscreen bottle.
"Maybe I'll just sit out for the rest of the day." He spoke, looking out at the sea thoughtfully. "I didn't realize how tired I am already."
"You lasted longer than me." Dom yawned, finally allowing himself to stretch to get the kink out of his back.
"Only because you're lazy." Billy gave him a matter of fact look and chuckled when Dom shot him back an annoyed one. Dom tried to get some of the sand out of his own hair and Billy took it upon himself to brush some of it off his coated back. "You're a mess." He smiled and Dom tried hard not to laugh as Billy's fingers brushed across his spine, his only strange ticklish spot. Billy already knew of it's existence, though, and Dom figured when he had seen his face contort a little it gave him incentive to linger on the spot a moment until Dom let out a laugh and swatted his hand away.
"Arse." Dom grumbled as Billy snickered.
"Shall we be heading back now?" Billy grabbed the sunglasses on the sand next to him, brushing them off to put them on.
"I suppose so." Dom blew out a sigh, looking at the surrounding area. He really felt like he could stay where he was sitting forever for some unknown reason. He stretched his legs out again before standing up, feeling just a little dizzy for a second, the heat doing more than he had thought to his head. He reached down and tried to dust off the sand off his legs without much success.
"Your turn to pack up?"
"Think so. But you could help, you know."
It was supposed to be a hint, but Billy apparently didn't notice it. He pulled his legs closer to his body and crossed them, putting his elbows on his thighs and his head on top of his hands. Dom took it as a 'There is no way you're getting help from me', answer and started grabbing random items that they had brought with them. He got all he could carry and brought it to his car that was parked in a deserted little beach parking lot a good 20 feet away.
He came back, feeling sweat forming on his brow. Sitting and surfing was one thing, but walking was a whole different story. Away from the cool surf, any sort of movement caused his body to start heating up. He wiped his face with a grubby hand, only really successfully putting more sand on his face. He stood in front of Billy, placing his hands on in hips.
"Where's m'board, mate?" he asked, as if he expected Billy was behind the disappearance.
"I don't know." Billy shaded his eyes to look up at Dom. "Haven't seen it."
Dom glanced around, seeing only Billy's board lying near him, a sharp contrast in color with the ground. He walked out a little toward the water, wondering if he had dropped it away from where he had been sitting. When nothing came up then, he walked back to where Billy was. Had he been looking, he would have seen it sticking up out of the sand, almost hidden completely under the sand with the exception of that little bit that Dom missed.
He did notice it when his foot hooked under it, causing him to unceremoniously fly forward. He didn't realize he was falling until he landed, and he didn't realize what he landed on until he opened his eyes and saw a pair looking back at him. It took him a few seconds to allow his brain to catch up with the events that had transpired and when he snapped out of the shock he realized he was lying on top of Billy and he had somehow found himself with his lips crushed against his friend's own.
It was a rather strange event. Dom fell on Billy's lips, and Billy responded by kissing back. And then it was more than the usual kissing back - it was kissing, with open mouths and possibly a little bit of rolling - Dom couldn't really comprehend what they were doing past the whole making out part. He knew he had wanted to do what was happening for longer than he could remember, but the way it had started was more bizarre than he could have ever thought possible. When they finally broke, Dom was under Billy - when had that happened? - and they were both breathing as though they had just ran twenty miles without a break.
"I didn't know you felt that way." Billy whispered through ragged breathing. "Could have given me a little more heads up, though."
Dom blinked, his mind replaying back what had just occurred. Right. It had definitely been an accident - tripping and falling and all that - but Billy apparently didn't think so.
"Er...right, so you're okay with this?" Dom tried to act as though he had just planned out everything that happened. It was around then Dom figured that Billy probably hadn't been looking his way when he fell and only saw him looking as though he...jumped on him or something. It was possibly the best wrong assumption Dom had ever seen or heard.
Billy pushed his lips briefly onto Dom's, possibly to answer Dom's previous question with action instead of words. After the few moments were over, Billy finally rolled off Dom, landing on the sand next to him. Dom sat up, feeling like he had a ton of sand had settled on him. He didn't even try to get it off, considering his arms and hands were just as bad as the rest of his body.
"Hey, there's your board." Billy pointed toward the shining object a foot away from them. "You're lucky you didn't fall over it, it's almost completely covered in the sand."
Dom looked over at his board, connecting all the events together finally. He scratched his sand-covered hair and gave a smile. "Yeah, lucky me."
He was glad Billy didn't wonder why he started laughing soon after.
