Notes: Well, it seems I'm indulging in writing a short but infinitely
crap series. It was bound to happen sooner or later...
This is it, it was official. Dom was dead.
"What are you doing down there Dom?"
"Being dead."
"Oh... right." Elijah's voice is confused, but not in an overly concerned sort of way. More the 'right-you-are-Dom-you-just-carry-on-being-weird' sort of way that Elijah uses for Dom when he's lying on the floor professing to be dead, or when Dom's complaining that he has groin ache from eating sushi, or when he's whining about the drivers here in L.A though it makes not the slightest bit of difference to whether they use their indicator lights.
"Hey, come back you bastard!"
Elijah's footsteps continue to fade.
"Oi, Lijah!"
A scuffled sound of gravel and then Elijah's presence is back hovering a couple of feet away.
"Aren't you going to help me?"
"How do you mean?"
"Well you could pick me up, sling me over your shoulder, take me home and nurse me back to health for a start?" Dom punctuates his suggestion with a suggestive rise of one eyebrow and waits for that gleam to spark off in Elijah's eyes and laugh something along the lines of 'Yeah, alright. Give you a bit of proper TLC..'
"No."
All of a sudden Dom isn't so dead. He's sitting up, his eyes have snapped open and a smile twitches on his lips. "Now that's not very nice is it, Doodle? You know I'd do the same for you."
"Would you?" The American's voice is soft, low and bloody hell that hurts...
"Of course I would! You know I would!" Dom is defensive, and sharp and almost angry and Elijah thinks perhaps the way Dom's eyes flash at him means he's over-stepped the mark.
'But not without good reason.'
Elijah reminds himself bitterly."Right, OK." Elijah's voice is curt.
"What the fuck Elijah?"
"Nothing." Elijah shoots back just as vicious. Christ, when did this conversation turn so nasty? Suddenly the suggestion of a little sympathy when proclaiming to be dead has taken on some deeper meaning, turned into something serious.
"No, not nothing. Talk to me."
"No."
It takes about half a second for the stubbornness in Elijah's voice to hit a nerve and awaken an awarenes of the side of Elijah that Dom can't stand, the side where Elijah sounds like a petulant child, and Dom doesn't want to know anymore. "Then piss off."
The gravel crunches under Elijah's feet and Dom lies back down, though now the only thing dead is the feeling of anxious dead weight that settles in his stomach as Elijah's footsteps fade completely.
