Coda

Orli was under the spotlight, as usual. Elijah wasn't. He was watching from the corner, a tiny smirk on his face.

"How does he do that?" Orlando whispered to Dom.

"Do what?" mumbled Dom, around the latest black lolly.

"Oh, nothing."

Smile, don't blink at the flashes. Look up. Over here, Orlando. This way. Orli was grinding his teeth. This was meant to be fun. Hmph.

He decided to copy Elijah, and just become invisible. He slipped away from Dom, around a corner and away from the cameras. He didn't think he could be invisible in plain sight. That would take practice.

The corridor was dark, and less opulent than the mob-filled hall he'd just left. A minute passed. Then another. Damn.

Orli leaned against the wall, closing his eyes and letting the flashes and babble wash over him. He fought the feeling that it was probably a bad idea. Surely nobody would sneak up on him here.

Somebody did.

A hand on his wrist, breath in his ear.

"You doing OK?"

Elijah was too close. And people said Orli had no sense of personal space.

"I'm good, thanks. Just needed to escape for a bit. You know…"

Elijah looked pleased.

"Yes, I know. And I'm glad you're OK. Just when I think this circus can't get any more bizarre, it does. Come on, the cars are outside. We can escape now."

Elijah was pulling him towards the door. Orli plastered his media smile back on, and almost-ran after him.

Another black limo. Orli used to keep track of the number of limo rides, but he gave up after the first hundred. As they approached the gleaming car, a little thought bred a little grin. He pushed Elijah in first.

The driver looked a bit confused at Orli's unorthodox entry to the car. But he closed the door without comment.

Elijah was confused, too.

"What are you doing down there?"

Orli's grin expanded.

"Every time I get in a taxi, I find myself on my knees!"

I'm so glad you're continuing this! I know that Orli and Elijah aren't your favorites...but you really have something here the way you're writing them. I especially like your version of the newly mature Elijah. Very convincing, and as always you're just so damn GOOD at this! thanks!
