Title: Signal
Author: [livejournal.com profile] the_velvet_rope
Rating: PG
Pairing: Dom/? (I'm not sure who I had in mind for this, so it's up to all of you)
Summary: "I dig my toes into the sand..."
Disclaimer: I'm a big, fat liar.
A/N: Inspired by "Wish you were here" by Incubus. It's not a songfic proper, but it kind of is since a line from the song is used. It might be a little fluffy and slightly cheesy, but I love anyway.
For Katey, it's not quite the Dom/Brandon that I'd like to write one day. But it is definitely a step in the right direction.
Feedback: ...is most appreciated.

He laid back on the sand, leaning on his elbows and silently chewing his bottom lip as he stared out ahead. He wasn't sure how long he had been sitting there, it didn't really matter.

But it was long enough for Dom to see the sky change from a bright blue with a brilliant sun, to an orange specked purple as the dimmed sun sank and a glowing moon appeared. Enough to see the sky and ocean begin to sparkle in way that made it hard to find where one started and the other began, like...

"A thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket," he whisper was faint, like the giggle that followed it. Quoting song lyrics, now? How cheesy. He laughed and shook his head before thinking, But it's the truth.

And it was.

During the hours he sat there millions of thoughts went through Dom's mind. Thought about everything and nothing. Some made him think he was some sort of genius. Others made him think he was probably the most boring fuck on the earth. But they all passed, never to be reclaimed again. The one thing he couldn't shake was this overwhelming feeling of right. Of perfect comfort and happiness.

And he couldn't put his finger on why he felt it. Nor did he want to, because you can't plan a moment like that. It's useless to try. Trying too hard only makes it lose the magic that it holds.

But what he did want was someone to share it with. In the hopes that he wasn't just imagining the beauty he saw, the feeling in the pit of his stomach. Someone who would understand.

But there was no one like that with him.

Not now.

Dom sighed and stood up, not bothering to shake the sand from his jeans, A smile crept across his lips and he shut his eyes as the chilly, late-summer wind blew. Scattering the sand of the abandoned beach and making Dom's bangs tickle his nose.

When he opened his eyes, he once again saw the sparkling water and before he knew what he was doing, he made a dash for it. Splashing the shore in his bare feet and jumping head first into the water.

He rolled and swam with the waves until he heard what sounded like someone yelling. When he lifted his head out of the water, he thought for sure that he was imagining it. But Dom froze in surprise when he saw a dimly lit figure on the shore, running towards him. And Dom smiled when the other man smiled wide and yelled again...

"Dom!"
