Any sort of author notes: The sequel to Stones Standing.. And to Falling.. those boys bugged me all day, until I finished their story.

“What do you mean we?” Orlando sat back on his heels. The sun ducked behind a cloud, casting grey on Elijah’s skin.

“We were here, you and I. We died here. We fell from the cliff.” Wide blue eyes, tinted violet in the dim light, stared out to the ocean.

“Did we?” Orlando crawled toward the edge. He lay on his stomach, peeking over the lip of stone. “My, that is a long way down.” Wind blew up the cliff face, playing with his curls. He crawled back, then wrapped himself around Elijah, who was shivering. Orlando stood him up, and walked him down the hill.

Back in their room in the small bed and breakfast, Elijah sat on the bed looking at his hands, which were folded on his lap. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” The bed dipped. Arms circled him. Warm lips pressed against his temple.

“You don’t have to be sorry. I understand. This was something that you had to do.” Orlando lay back onto the feather pillows, taking Elijah with him. “Tell me about them, us.”

“It was a long time ago. We lived on that island. We weren’t allowed to be together. I don’t know why. We were discovered one night, at the fort. The wind blew us over the edge.” He looked up into chocolate brown eyes, his own misty. “They, we, were so desperate.”

“We never have to feel that way. I have you now, and I’m never going to let you go.” Long fingers ghosted over shorn hair. Lips met in a tender embrace. The ghosts of love’s past were quiet once more.
