Fluff time
Author: _sblomie [Allie]
Pairing: Dominic Monaghan and Orlando Bloom
Rating: PG works.
Author's Note: I'm atoning for my self-mutliation fics as of late and I come bearing something humourous and adorable. Everyone, including myself, needs some fluff now.
Feedback: I love the stuff, can't get enough of it and I'll admit the fact that 'm a feedback whore.
Orlando was a dog person, and he liked cats as well. Dominic...was not. Dominic loved all things slithering and creepy crawly, plus the whole cold blooded thing worked for him best. Why? When he was a toddler, his uncles and grandfather loved to go hunting with large hunting dogs to chase the game from the bushes. Apparently, in the elder Monaghan's minds, mixing a toddler with a large hunting dog was a good idea but as a result, Dom had never once asked for a puppy. And cats? His mum had a cat. And that cat had been Satan if anyone was to ask him. Dom swore it had it out for him. Dom thought that it was seriously trying to kill him in his sleep, send him spiraling down the stairs so he broke his neck..anything! As it was, Dominic had always had a love for snakes and lizards and all things creepy and crawly.
So, when Orlando finally had a time off from filming where he was able to go home to Los Angeles and the house he shared in secret with fellow Lord of the Rings actor Dominic Monaghan, it was an interesting homecoming. Dominic had apparently got lonely, despite the fact that a dog lived in the house with him already. And because Dominic was lonely, he decided that more pets were needed to entertain him and keep him company when Elijah could no longer serve his purpose. Dominic had Witchitar, the black widow, in her carrier to keep her from getting out and lost in the rather impressive home but also from biting anyone with a less than friendly bite. However, as he leaned over the coffee table and scribbled away in his journal, he had Gizmo, the leaf mantis, resting on the back of his hand.
Dominic had heard the bags set down in the foyer, the keys clink in the glass decorative bowl they had set on a table for keys, wallets, and various other pocket hidden objects. A bright smile creeping across his features as he put the pen down and kept his hand as it was while he got up. Meeting Orlando halfway between the foyer and living room with a warm hug and an even warmer kiss. Dom wrapped his arms around his lover and boyfriend's shoulders, more than elated to just hold, hug.. to know he was there. It was no longer a body pillow with a fading scent.
However, the hug ended awkwardly. It ended when Orlando froze, his head raising from it's common place in the crook of Dom's neck. Dom could hear the slow, steady breathing and knew Orlando was looking at something and it wasn't him. It was Gizmo.
"Dom," Orlando started slowly, carefully freeing himself from his lover's arms and stepping back a few paces. "What's on your hand.. and why?" he asked with a hand pointing towards the little gold and black bug on the back of Dom's beautiful and elegant hand. Amazingly devoid of sharpie for the first time in who knew how long.
"This is Gizmo," Dom chirped happily as he gently used a fingertip to run along the banded and circle designed back. The little mantis looked up to him, sharp forearms moving towards his finger before he took the hint and pulled it away. "She's my new pet, Witchitar is in the other room, she's a black widow though.." he smiled sheepishly as he could see Orlando's skin start to crawl.
The rest of the afternoon had been interesting. Dom had put the pets away where he kept them in the bathroom just to allow them to have a nicely humidified area to live given the steam produced from showers. Despite the fact that the bugs were put away, Orlando would not relax and presumably could not relax. After dinner and a massage, a lot of talking and just enjoying each other's company, they agreed that it was time for bed. The both went to their respective sides of the bedroom, changing into flannel pants for Orlando and stretch yoga pants for Dominic before going about their nightly routines. When he heard the yelp and saw Orlando book it from the bathroom with his toothbrush still in his mouth, Dom could tell that his lover had just found the bugs again.
"They live in there, they're out of the way and in cages that they can't get out of. I'm positive of that," Dom explained but Orlando was leary to finish brushing his teeth and washing his face. Finally, the bathroom was free and Orlando lied down in bed to just calm down. However, Dominic did not give Orlando a chance to calm down. He had Gizmo resting on his bare shoulder as he climbed into bed for the moment.
Poor Orlando, in a flash he had Dominic straddling his hips, knees resting on top of the tanned forearms to keep his arms at the sides. Carefully, he picked up Gizmo and set her down on the tip of Orlando's nose with the tiny face aimed directly at the bridge of his nose. Strong hands moved to hold his lover's head in place as he stared down into dark brown eyes mingled between fear and hatred at the moment.
"I'll take her off your nose and move the girls to the opposite side of the house if you promise to make nice," Dom bartered. "She's just like Maude was, she loves to spend time with those who like her. Now, we live together and we share what we have in the house, so like Gizmo at he least and I promise never to let Witchitar within ten feet of you. If she gets out, the dog can eat her, I promise."
Orlando was quiet for a while, staring down the little bug before sighing and relaxing under Dominic's body. "Fine... I'll be Gizmo's friend but can you please take her off of my nose and put her to bed?" Orli whined.
"I know that's as good as it's going to get," Dom muttered as he slowly reached up to gather his little bug on his finger and climb from the bed. Disappearing in the bathroom long enough to put her away and be sure they were closed in their cages properly before he completed his nightly routine.
A few moments later, Dominic came from the bathroom, clicking the light off in his wake before lifting the down filled comforter and climbing into the bed. No time was wasted in closing the space on the large bed between Orlando and himself. No, tonight was not a night for sex. It was not a night for raw passion, but rather...to preserve what they had, they needed to just be together. To talk, to share space and time. Sex was not a constant requirement despite what some misguided people thought of life. It was moments like this that Dominic loved. Moments where he knew that the world could end and he would die with a smile just because of who he was with.
It was not long before the two men fell asleep in each other's arms. A tangle of hugs, legs and nuzzling, nestled heads as everything was just right in the Bloom-Monaghan household with all of their creepy crawly pets and dogs. What was a little horror of pets between boyfriends, anyways?
