Viggo could certainly understand how the hecticness that was the hobbits
could get to someone, he knew it would get to him if he were exposed to it
all the time. So yes, he could understand where Dom was coming from.

"I suppose it almost has to be," Viggo commented, but it was a smile he
offered Dominic, which softened his words.

_+_+_+_+_+

He took the joint once more from Viggo's hand, pulling on it before
continuing "Nature...I can deal with nature...as long as the company
is good," he finished, knees drawn up to his body, one hand clasped
on tin mug, the other passing the joint back over.

_+_+_+_+_+

Viggo stretched his long legs out, leaning against a tree again.

"And is it? The company, I mean."

_+_+_+_+_+

Dom had seen the smile, caught the tone of voice. Viggo wasn't really
all that pissed off at having his camp invaded by some mad rambling
Hobbit //Fuckit! Even I'm calling myself that now!//

Dom stretched out his legs, suddenly feeling more at ease, he lay
down by the fire, head propped up on one hand, mug in front of him on
the ground, facing Viggo, staring over at him. "Yeah. It is. Thanks."
He smiled, genuinely glad to have found Viggo, even if he turfed him
out in a few minutes, just to be here with him had calmed Dom down
more than he expected...and not just from the pot they were sharing.

"So...how long are you planning on staying out here?"

_+_+_+_+_+

Viggo watched Dominic through half lidded eyes, sipping a cup of coffee
himself. He marvelled for a moment how different Dom looked out of his
hobbit makeup, it was quite amazing really.

"How long?" Viggo repeated, realising he had been drifting rather. "Well
there is only so much time I could stay out here before Peter would have my
head, but I had figured on maybe a few days, just with some peace and quiet,
going over some of my lines--drawing, writing, taking some pictures. A lot
of great material out here."

_+_+_+_+_+

"A few days...wow, that's like...real commitment and all." Dom took
the final toke on the joint, inhaling till the last bit then stubbing
it out as he held his breath, just staring at Viggo, not really
caring at this point, the alcohol had worn off to be replaced with
mellow calmness. //sooo, what's next...can I stay? Fuckit Dommie,
what the hell are you getting yourself into here?//

_+_+_+_+_+

Viggo looked at Dominic strangely. Was he just insane? Or that stoned.
Commitment?

_+_+_+_+_+

"Mind if I...umm...stay?...at least for tonight I mean, don't wanna
try to find the road again in the dark n all," Dom asked, now staring
down into his mug.

_+_+_+_+_+

Watching the younger man for a few long moments, Viggo tried to figure out
what he was up to. Why did he want to stay, but he knew that Dom was right
at least about the last part, he shouldn’t have been out here wandering in
the dark in the first place.

"Sure," Viggo said. "Peter'll kill me if I let one of his hobbits get lost
or killed in the woods. Afraid I've only got bedding for one though."

_+_+_+_+_+

He noticed the strange look, //Hey, nothing wrong with me...well,
nothing more wrong than the rest of the universe. Just cos I'd not be
able to survive out here on me own for two days...I just... respect
you're ability to just do it is all.//

//He's staring at you too much Dommie, thinks you're odd already!
Fuckit! Just like the rest!// "S'okay, I'll just stay here I guess,
by the fire, warm n all." He smiled up again, hopeful.

_+_+_+_+_+

Viggo idly wondered what was going through Dominic's head at the moment, he
could fairly see the gears turning. The older man didn't ask though, just
took another drink of his quickly cooling coffee.

"That or we can share the bedding," he teased--well it was meant to come out
as a joke but it somehow fell flat to Viggo's ears. ~What the hell are you
doing old man?~

_+_+_+_+_+

It took Dom a few seconds to realise what Viggo'd just
said. //Christ...he so does not mean that in the way I think... no, I
want him to mean it. Fuck... can I just...'share'?//

"Yeah, survival, sharing body heat n all I guess...Yeah...why not eh?
Save me getting me arse frozen off!"

_+_+_+_+_+

~Well~ Viggo scolded himself. ~You said it and he took you seriously, what
now? You're an adult, so is he, even if he is a good deal younger than you.
And it is cold out here, even with the fire~

"Can't have you getting frost bite or what not," he agreed.

_+_+_+_+_+

"Quite!" he agreed watching the fire die down "PJ'd have a fit if
anything fell off!"

He picked a stick from the fire, poking it a bit, then lay back a
little, looking up at the stars above. "Even the stars are different
here, so far from home" he sighed.

_+_+_+_+_+

"You can see the Southern Cross here," Viggo commented, gazing up at the
stars again, given a strange glow from the fire light, he preferred them in
the total darkness. "That's one reason I like coming out here, and why I
love New Zealand, even in this short time, being out here so far from big
cities, the sky is pure, no glare from city lights. Everything is so much
brighter and clearer." He glanced at Dom. "Feeling homesick?"

_+_+_+_+_+

Dom listened in silence as Viggo described the heavens to him,
realised this was another reason why he was all the way out here
tonight. "Yeah, a bit maybe, I guess that's another
reason why I wanted to speak to you tonight, everything back there,
it's hard and bright and the edges rub at me sometimes, and I know
I've not really talked with you all that much but when I have it just
seems...easier...somehow, like I don't have to pretend..."Dom trailed
off, uncertain of how to continue. "Does that make sense to you?" He
looked up at Viggo, still sitting against the tree.

_+_+_+_+_+

Viggo listened to Dominic talk, though he was still watching the stars,
trying to map them out, recognise the foreign constellations. Some of them
he did, having done quite a bit of travelling in his time. He looked back to
the younger man when he asked if what he was saying made sense.

"Yes, I suppose it does," he finally said. "Though that may not be overly
saying much." Viggo offered him a smile, looking back up at the stars. "So
why do you pretend, Dominic? What are you hiding from?"
