Quick fluffy drabble crap type thing. I needed a distraction from studying for midterms :)

“Bananas make my tongue itch.”

Orlando looked up skeptically. “They what?”

“They make my tongue itch.” Elijah, wearing a painful grimace, smacked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

Orlando turned his attention back to the half-eaten sandwich in his hands. After spending the last eight months with Elijah and company, he had learned how to react to such random statements: keep quiet and wait for any explanations. If there were any at all, that is.

Sure enough, “I mean, I keep eating them. There’s no time for anything else in the morning,” Elijah continued in between smacks. “I gotta have fruit. Oranges require extensive peeling. Apples get sticky juice all over your hands. Berries have to be washed.” He waved his hand in an ‘etc.’ motion.

“So… bananas,” Orlando finished slowly. He glanced up to see Elijah nod.

“Bananas,” Elijah confirmed. He started smacking again.

Elijah walked into the breakfast tent with his eyebrows creased. He was sorting through the pile of bagels when Orlando sidled up, hands enclosed around a steaming cup of coffee.

“Itchy?” he asked, puckering his lips and blowing gently onto the liquid. Elijah nodded, nimbly slicing a bagel and smearing gobs of cream cheese over the halves. His jaw kept moving slightly. Orlando suspected he was on the verge of biting his tongue off.

“You might get wrinkles like that. Can’t have your perfect face flawed by something like that, can we?” Orlando teased, wincing as he slurped up the bitter coffee.

Elijah kept frowning as he flicked his tongue out of his mouth and scraped it against his upper front teeth. “God, this is fucking annoying.”

Orlando sipped at his coffee nonchalantly.

He scuffed the bottom of his shoe against the wall, his eyes focused on an approaching Elijah. Even from the distance, he could make out the frown and the wiggling jaw.

“What’s with the James Dean pose?” Elijah asked distractedly as soon as he was within earshot. Orlando immediately straightened up and grabbed Elijah’s forearm, tugging him around to the back of the building.

Elijah followed bewilderedly. “What the hell? What is it?” His frown of annoyance had changed into one of confusion.

Orlando kept one hand on Elijah’s shoulder, pushing him into the wall. “Did you have bananas again?” He tried to ignore how stupid the question sounded.

Elijah rolled his eyes. “Yes, are you going to beat me up for it?” He made an effort to pull away but Orlando kept his hand clamped against him. In one swift motion, he leaned forward, pried apart Elijah’s lips, and gave his tongue a single rough swipe with his own.

“Hope that helped,” Orlando breathed into the stunned silence. He released Elijah and walked away without a second glance, but couldn’t help a giddy smile from spreading across his face.

Blinking away the contact residue in his eye, Orlando stumbled towards the parking lot, eager to get home and crash on his bed. His footsteps slowed when he saw Elijah leaning against his car in the fading daylight.

“Wha—“ he started, words dissipating as Elijah silently held up a banana. Orlando watched as he peeled the fruit in three calculated movements.

It seemed as though sleep would have to wait.
