I’ve been discussing this with some of my friends in my private journal and it has made me curious about other people’s reading and writing habits when it comes to fanfics.

- I must say Dom/Billy, it's so real life. Hehe, well, I just think they are so adorable together.
2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?
- Well, it sort of depends on my mood. For example, right now, I don't really feel like reading any NC-17 smut, but sometimes I just can't take any fluffy fics. But overall I can read just about anything.
3.What would you like to read more of?
- Original and unique fics like mctaggart_pegg's dialect fics.

- Not at all, makes it even more exciting *g*

- Whenever I read a fic, I do give feedback.

- err... I like just about anything, but again, depends on my mood.

- Usually I read ficlets, but lately for example 'Propinquity' by thailainthesky has had me hooked.

Writing
1.What pairings do you write?
- Hehe, pretty much any LotR RPS pairing if I only get the inspiration. But mostly Dom/Billy, Dom/Orli, Andy/Elijah, Dom/Elijah or Orlando/Viggo.
2.Where do you get your inspiration?
- Varies. Sometimes I am inspired by another fic, sometimes by a hot pic, sometimes by a song...
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?
- on the computer. But sometimes if I am, for example at school, and I get a sudden inspiration, I quickly drabble it on any paper I can find.
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
- Quite short. I don't have enough talent to keep people interested in a long fic.
5.D you form the story in your head before writing it or do you just let the words flow?
- I pretty much just let it flow, that way my fics are better.
6.Do you have a favourite among the fics you have written? Which one and why?
- I can't decide between Turn the Page (http://www.livejournal.com/users/silva_fics/2637.html) and Knights in White Satin (http://www.livejournal.com/users/silva_fics/4156.html). I like them both and am very proud of both of them.

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why?
Either Dorli or Monaboyd. I started out as a Dorli shipper, adamant that Dom was meant to be with Orlando and no-one else, but I've since progressed on to Monaboyd. I can just see those pairings as, well, plausible (as plausible as they could ever be, lol), I guess. Plus the people that write them pairings are just amazing writers. I can't read Dom, Orlando or Billy shipped with anyone but themselves (an Elijah, actually, I don't mind that). I don't know why, it's just ships like Viggo/Orli and Sean A./Elijah just squick me, I guess.
2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?
Ones that are written badly? I don't know, lol. I like all sorts. It really depends on my mood at the time. I don't really like amazingly sad ones, or amazingly fluffy ones at that, either. They have to be somewhere in the middle. A mixtures of elements is good.
3.What would you like to read more of?
Just good fics. There isn't really anything specific I would like to see other than more amazing fics. If the writing and the story is good, then nothing else really matters.
4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life?
No, not really. I don't like reading Sean A. slash, but that's not because he's married, it's just because I prefer other pairings.
5.How often do you give feedback?
All the time. Even if it's only a sentence to ay I loved it. There are a few exceptions where I haven't reviewed, mostly because of time issues (me not having any, lol), but generally I review every fic I read.
6.To which ratings do you read and why?
Any. I haven't really got any preferences. I rarely read R rated fics, but sometimes I will. I guess most of the R ones I've read seems to be all about the sex, which is okay, but I prefer a nice little story to go with it.
7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer?
Either. Mostly I read ficlets because I can read them quickly, but I don't mind chaptered ones either.
8.Which is the best fic you have ever read?
Eesh. I don't know. All the ones I love are saved in my Memories, so if you want some recs, try there :)

Writing
1.What pairings do you write?
Dom/Orli, Dom/Billy, and once a Dom/Elijah for a fic challenge.
2.Where do you get your inspiration?
From anything. Usually the fandom and things I talk about with people on my lj. I can be watching TV and see something and think "Now that would make a good fic!".
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?
I prefer to write straight on the computer, but as I don't get much time on here the majority of them are written out up in my room and then transfered to here later.
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
Shorts. I can never have the time nor plots to write longer ones.
5.D you form the story in your head before writing it or do you just let the words flow?
Both. Most of the time I have a general gist of what I'm going to write and then make it up as I go along. Sometimes I'll have it planned out though. Sections of fics I can see in my head, but hardly ever the whole thing.
6.Do you have a favourite among the fics you have written? Which one and why?
My fics? Um, I guess so. I like all of them, there isn't one I particularly hate or anything. I do like this Dom/Billy (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fellow_shippers/1096342.html#cutid1) that I wrote for Christmas. It's just a fun piece, was nice to write. I do really like the Domlijah (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fellow_shippers/601342.html) I wrote too. My first and only of the ship so far, lol.

I don't write so I'll only answer the reading-bit.

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why?
Billy/Dom.I just love seeing them together (movies/pictures etc). I like their friendship. And no, I don't believe fiction.. it's just fiction. :)

2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?
Anything Domlijah (Thanks, tinhats :P). Any fic where the characters behave oddly, or says things that does not remind me of the actors. I also have a hard time reading Mary-Sue's. Rape/death. Any fic that stars me as the actor (ie, written i I-form). AU. :)

3.What would you like to read more of?
Jealousy, angst...

4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life?
No.

5.How often do you give feedback?
Whenever I like something.

6.To which ratings do you read and why?
PG-NC17. I seem to enjoy PG/PG13 and R most though. You get tired of the NC17's after a while, because it's all the same.

7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer?
Several chapters all at once! I have no patience, so I'd rather not wait.

8.Which is the best fic you have ever read?
I can't pick one. :/ It depends on my mood.

1) Dom/Billy, and Dom/Elijah-- i don't know, they just seem, i don't know it's hard to describe, really.

2)Fics i have a problem with....anything with slash Sir Ian, it just, kind of, bugs me. He's like 64 years old. *lol*

3)Angst, i love angst. Don't ask me why, but i do.

4)Yes, like Sean Astin, i can't read fics with him in them. But i can read them, if it happened before they were married. (If that makes sense)

5) Pretty much all the time.

6)I read all ratings, the stuff intrigues me, haha.

7) Well, ficlets are always really cute, and fun, unless they're angsty, but they're good, and chapters are awesome too, beacuse they leave me in suspense.

8) Best fic i have ever read, wow, that's a tough one. I seriously can't pic one. There are so many great ones out there, that i fall in love with, and they're all written by various people, so....


1)Like i said Monaboyd, and Domlijah.

2)From songs, people, books i've read, my own life.

3)Computer, that way i can make changes, or completely erase it all together if i don't like it.

4)Both, it really depends on my mood at the time.

5)Half and half. Like i'll be lying in bed at night, and get an idea for a line, and i'll write it down, and then let the story flow from there. But then again, i also get stories in my head sometimes.

6)Not really, not yet at least. I like the first fic i wrote, When The Rain Falls, but that may be because it was my first fic, i don't know.

Domlijah. It just feels right.

I don't usually like AUs but there are always exceptions. I don't like badly written fics, and I don't read WIPs--but only because I'm impatient.

Good stuff. Also, fics that aren't pure angst or pure fluff, but somewhere in between.

Not if the writer is convincing.

Any and all of them, because I love a bit of good porn but there are some G rated fics that are just as good.

I've written a lot of pairings, but mostly Dom/Elijah, Dom/Orli, and Clark/Lex.

2.Where do you get your inspiration?

Anywhere I can find it.

3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?

Usually on paper, but sometimes I do it at the comp.

4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?

Again, short ones. I like the challenge they present, and usually long fics don't come instantly to my mind.

I just let the words flow.

6.Do you have a favourite among the fics you have written? Which one and why?

Yes I do, it's called Doppelganger, it's Billy/Elijah and it's at Once You Pop (You Can't Stop.) (http://www.greenqueen.exigency.biz/)
It's not my favourite pairing by a long shot, not even one of them, but the thing I love about this fic is that I actually have a complete and clear image in my mind of this happening. I don't think in pictures, I think in words, so to me this is quite an accomplishment.
I also love quebrante because it presented quite a challenge to me, and flex sex squeeze ex because it's such an unusual style.

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why? dombilleh <3 i'm not entirely sure why, actually. honestly, i think elijah is cuter than billy, but..whatever. otp <3
2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why? i don't like fics that pretend their characters aren't au, but they are. its incredibly annoying, especially when you're not warned. i also dislike (in 95% of cases) non-con sex, and anal sex w/o lube (because i mean come on, it just doesn't happen that way!)
3.What would you like to read more of? D/s dombilleh a la shaenie
4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life? i can't do sean astin, dunno why. usually it doesn't bother me because, well, its fic. duh. i mean, they're not really having gay sex so why does it matter?
5.How often do you give feedback? pretty much if i really really love the story, i'll say something. sometimes more than once on a series, sometimes not. usually its not very helpful either, lol
6.To which ratings do you read and why? all, but i'm a smut fan <3
7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer? depends. sometimes a plot can be perfect in 500 words of so. sometimes it needs more space. i hate when authors cram something down into a short fic when it should be longer.
8.Which is the best fic you have ever read? shaenie's convergence, catalyst, etc series. i've read a ton of other good stuff (i rec a lot of it at my journal, check the memories) but convergence takes the cake, way above and beyond.

1.What pairings do you write? i very rarely write; i've written a domlijah and a dombilleh, i believe, and some viggo somewhere
2.Where do you get your inspiration? everywhere.
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper? depends. sometimes computer (i type faster than i write), but sometimes (like in class, bwaahaha) on paper
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics? short, usually, because i have to finish something while i am in the mood for it or i leave it hanging forever

-BillyDom, Domlijah, M/P, Dombilijah
2.Where do you get your inspiration?
-out of the very air...I really have no clue
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?
-in MS Word, or straight to MS Frontpage. Never on paper, my handwriting is too bad.
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
-Lately, I've been in the habit of writing short chapters in a long series. I usually write about four pages, and then someone says "SEQUEL!!" and then I write another four, and then I hear "SEQUEL", and then there's another four...
5.D you form the story in your head before writing it or do you just let the words flow?
-sometimes I write out plotlines, but with the last two series I've done, I just "surprised" myself. Just started writing and whatever happens, happens!

-hmm...I kinda like Shotgun (http://tooken.underthebed.us/ari/rps/Shotgun.htm), just because I had so much fun writing the BillyDom dialogue...and the None of This (http://tooken.underthebed.us/ari/rps/none/) series. It's not my only drabble series, but I seem to like that one the best :)

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why? Monaboyd is my absolute fave but i can also be into any pairing if the plot sounds good or if it's NC-17:D
2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why? Fics that aren't beta'd when they should have been and have lot's of mistakes (spelling and past/present tense)...but usually i don't care too much.
3.What would you like to read more of? Monaboyd!! lol well and from some of my fave authors...u know who u r!!
4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life? Yes. I have a hard time with Seanlijah but have read a few. I would like to read Dom/Sean...but i'm just kinky like that.
5.How often do you give feedback? Usually when i am online and reading it here. If i put it into word and it is exceptionally good i try to find it and comment. Although i've been lazy lately:( I usually comment when a fic is really good. I never comment on badfic.
6.To which ratings do you read and why? I absolutly love NC-17 but i will read any rating if it sounds good or by an author i love.
7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer? I prefer shorter fics. That way i can comment rite away. I have read longer chapter fic...the Dom death one by silentnumbsmoke was good and desire_billy's "a life without..." is great as well!

There was this one the other day about Dom and Viggo camping that just gave me shivers tho i can't remember who it was by.

1.What pairings do you write? I'm an equal oppourtunity girl. My first ever for lotrips was Dorli, but i've written mostly Monaboyd. I have also written Domlijah and i don't ship them. It depends on the mood i guess.
2.Where do you get your inspiration? I hate to say this but i think almost 85% of the fic i've ever written was inpired by songs. I usually have song lines as fic names as well. 10% is from expeirance things. And 5% prob from ideas from others.
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper? When i didn't own a computer, i would write them on paper. It just takes a long time to convert to comp from paper imho. So i like the fact that i only need to use the comp now.
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics? Short is usually the way i go. i am impatient and want to see a finish before writing something else. I have written fic that was long but maybe one or two...
5.Do you form the story in your head before writing it or do you just let the words flow? Again that depends. Sometimes i am thinking about the fic for a long time and have parts written in my head but mostly it's just a...what does this song remind me of...thing. Since my fics usually aren't very long, it's mostly the latter.
6.Do you have a favourite among the fics you have written? Which one and why? Aw...geez. I don't know if i'm in the right place to determine weather my fics are good or shite. I laughed at my first fic and it was suposedly hot as hell. I really don't know..."Love and Hate" or "Number eight" might be fave's of mine cus they're Monaboyd.

2. i don't generally like crack!fic. i don't find (with a very few exceptions) them amusing in the slightest.
3. dombillijah porn.
4. not really.
5. most of the time.
6. all ratings, because i don't think a story can be judged on its rating.
7. ficlets nowadays.
8. ahh i'm not sure. the one that stuck in my mind most was...i can't remember what it was called, or who it was by *facepalm* but it was an orgy!fic. *lol*

Writing

1. dom/elijah, billy/dom, dom/billy/elijah, orli/elijah, viggo/orli, dom/orli, liv/miranda...
2. myself mostly.
3. usually computer, unless i can't be on it at the time...

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why?
Dom/Billy. I only write comedy and these two are just too funny together all the time. Its a comedy writers dream.
2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?
Deathfic and any fic that makes grown men sound like whiney little 13-14 yr old girls. I hate deathfic since I just feel squicked by writing about something so somber, so final. I don't ever want to think of these guys as dead. Never.
3.What would you like to read more of? More comedy for one thing. Second...I have a weakness for mpreg, I find it just comical to even consider.
4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life? Depends, I can usualy suspend my imagination for it.
5.How often do you give feedback? Almost always.

I don't normally look at ratings but since you asked I guess the R or N-17 ratings. Its all about the porn ya know (wink,wink)

Just tell a good story. If its a terrific story then keep going!

Such a hard hard question. I would have preferred had you asked who my favorite fic authors are.

1.What pairings do you write?
I write only Dom/Billy and uh..their talking bits: Nesseh and Weasel
2.Where do you get your inspiration?
Hard to say, most people think I am pretty crazy
3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?
I do best by composing at the computer. I sorta sketch out a few ideas and then I hammer away on the computer
4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?
Look, I figure anytime I write its a lucky thing. I never know if its going to be long or short.

Both really. I sorta have an idea and then I just see where it goes.

Yes, its Fun with Billy and its my very first one. I think I put some of my best most humorous ideas in that fic. Most people find it pretty hysterical and thats exactly what I was aming for.

I have yet to start writing my own fic, but I can do the reading ones:

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why?
Domlijah, without a doubt. Fiction is just that, fiction, but I prefer slash if the pairing is one that I could actually see happening. I get that feeling from them, 2 tha maxxx! That, and they are mucho sexico. ;)

2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?
I have certain characters/pairings that I avoid (I love Sir Ian, but COME ON), and I'm definately not a fan of sloppily written, over-the-top gratuitous fics. Other than that, however, I'm open to just about anything.

3.What would you like to read more of?
I really enjoy reading AUs, because I like the idea of transplanting characters into new situations and seeing how authors handle all the various adaptations they need to make. As the fandom grows there seem to be more and more good AUs, and I'd like to see that trend continue! :D

4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life?
Not usually. I know with Sean A. fics some authors will bypass the issue by simply not mentioning it, which I don't really enjoy. I think that if it's done well, a character being married can in fact add to the overall radness of a fic (ie: "the confusion! the angst! the comforting sex with the afflicting costar!").


5.How often do you give feedback?
I'm a bit of a lurker, but I try to leave feedback whenever I feel I have something relevant to say besides "afjgnrifjnrfijksgkguk." (which I often say anyway, lol)

6.To which ratings do you read and why?
I like a good mix of plot and porn, which tends to mean higher ratings, but it really sort of depends on the story. I usually avoid gen fics, but if something is just flat out GOOD, I could care less about teh sex.

7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer?
Depends. If a longer fic has really interesting plot development/characterization/some other crazy thing I will stick with it and be obsessed with it for the duration of the period that I'm reading it. Othertimes, I'd rather just read a little bitty one and then move on to something new.

8.Which is the best fic you have ever read?
Oh god, there are so many! I'd have to think about that for a few days...

1.What’s your favourite pairing and why?

Orlijah. They're opposites, and so I find making them work together more interesting than characters like Billy/Dom in which getting to quick sex is much easier. I also find Elijah psychologically interesting as a character, and Orlando is a perfect cypher. Plus they're both nice and funny.

2.What sorts of fics don’t you like and why?

Overly schmoopy. Non-con. Fics in which the characters are unlikable. Because, for me, slash is my fun playground. I read original fic when I want to be challenged or try something new. So I only read slash that makes me happy. Also, I have a bit of a problem with rps characters being rotten--although the constructs are entirely fictional, there are, way back there, real people they are kind of based on. And the little I know of the real people, they are all nice enough, regular people. So I find rotten a bit of a problem--it should be AU or with changed names if the characters are that different (just a personal squick of mine).

3.What would you like to read more of?

Orlijah.

4.Do you have a problem with reading fics where one or more of the characters are married in real life?

Yep. But only if it's set while they are married. Before marraige or AU is OK.

5.How often do you give feedback?

Whenever I like something about a story.

6.To which ratings do you read and why?

Any. I'm not looking just for sex--I want a good story, so the rating doesn't matter.

7.Several chapters or ficlets? What do you prefer?

Either--see 6.

8.Which is the best fic you have ever read?

I really can't narrow it down to one favorite. But two that come close are: "Deconstructing Legolas" by Lemur, and "They Say of the Elves" by Brancher.

Writing
1.What pairings do you write?

Orlijah and a little bit of implied Dom/Billy. Liv Tyler/Lucy Lawless. MO/CB (as a slashababy). Jack/Daniel (Stargate), Duncan/Methos (Highlander).

2.Where do you get your inspiration?

I can't answer this question, except with "everywhere". It's a bit like asking me, "How long is a piece of string."

3.Where do you first write the story; on the computer or on paper?

Outline on paper (or in my head if v. short), then actually write it on computer. Once I've started, I can write snippets long hand and then type them in.

4.Do you prefer writing long or short fics?

Whatever the story needs. Both forms are interesting.

5.D you form the story in your head before writing it or do you just let the words flow?

I've used both methods. But I mostly plot it first and then write it.

6.Do you have a favourite among the fics you have written? Which one and why?

Elijah's Collection is my favourite series, because it has complex plot and technique that I'm really pleased with; plus I love the characterisation I pulled off.

My favorite stand alone story is "five scenes of Bohemian life" because I just love the poetry of it.
