(no subject)

Following on from the prologue.. welcome to Chapter 1 of this story. It has come from an idea I've had in my head for nearly 12 years. [livejournal.com profile] konishi_zen and I decided that this AU world deserved to be written about and this is what we've done. It'll be a work in progress for a fair while as we have so much to tell you about ^_^

Dom's iPod bleeped at him repeatedly to tell him the battery was finally dying.

"Fucking useless piece of crap" he grumbled to himself, switching it off. "Should've lifted a new one not a display model."

The thought of another 5 hours on the bus without music was soul destroying. So far on the journey, the Manic Street Preachers' first album and some KMFDM had managed to take Dom's mind off the man sat two seats behind him on the bus. He could feel those green eyes on the back of his head but had yet to yeald to the temptation of turning around.

The bus was slowing and the woman sat next to him started to pack away her book and get her stuff out of the overhead rack. He had tried to be polite and start a conversation with her when she initially sat down but after taking in Dom's ratty blue jacket, unshaven face and the unwashed hair, she dismissed him with monosyllabic answers and sneering condescension. He was glad she wasn't remaining for the rest of the journey. It looked like he was going to have the two seats to himself too as the greyhound station they were pulling into was deserted.

Half the bus seemed to be getting off at this stop. Dom wondered what they could all be doing in a town that seemed to be in the arse end of nowhere. He was fucking glad that he was finally leaving this sort of place behind him.

Elijah had called him 3 weeks before with the news that he'd managed to get Dom a job at the place he worked. Dom could barely understand the drunken words being spoken on the other end of the line but knew enough that his friend was in one of his depressions. Lij had called at 2am in the morning while Dom was stoned and trying to get into the pants of a very cute 18 year old. Lij's call had put any idea of getting laid out of his head.

"Lijah man... what's the deal? Why the tears? You should be stoked that I'm finally coming out there to stay with you. You got me a job! It's something to celebrate!"

"*Sniff*..I know Dom.. I know.. s'just I miss you man. I've been a bit lonely and been doing too much sulphate and.. and.. you gotta come soon.. I can't do this on my own anymore."

Dom's heart sunk. He had been through this with Lijah so many times and had thought the move to New York would give Lij a fresh start away from his memories. It looked like those memories had finally caught up with him.

"I'll be there soon, don't you worry, just keep your head straight and I'll come out soon love."

The bus jolted Dom awake with a start. The side of his face was numb from where he had leaned it against the cold, glass window. He sat up straight and stretched with a yawn, taking in his surroundings.

His heart skipped a beat and then pounded through his ribcage as he noticed the seat opposite his on the aisle was now occupied by the man who borrowed his lighter. He was deep in sleep and curled into a ball under his jean jacket, snoring quietly. As the reflected street lights sporadically bathed his face as the bus moved along the highway, Dom could see the lines crinkled in the corner of his closed eyes and the relaxed mouth, slightly open showing a couple sharp inscisors.

To Dom, he was stunning.

Dom relaxed back into his seat, leaning back against the window and pulled his feet up to rest on the seat next to him. He closed his eyes a touch, feigning sleep and through the gap in his long lashes, drank in the sight of this man of beauty. He could only imagine what those parted lips were capable of. He was rapidly becoming hard and had to adjust his position to relieve his discomfort. This last leg of his journey was going to be the toughest part.

..end..
