Dom didn't fight it, he let the wind hit him. A cool Scottish wind, it smelled of cut grass and open spaces. His hair fluttered around his pale brow. He flopped down on the grass of the open hill and watched the clouds float across the pale blue sky. Blue, like His eyes...
But Dom didn't want to think about that, although today would probably be the most appropriate time. Two years ago on this day, Dom left Elijah. Two years ago today, Dom had gotten his life back.
It had been a healthier life, a happier life, but an empty life. He hadn't been seeing anyone; he couldn't bring himself to betray his true love. In all of those 730 days, not one went by that he didn't think of Elijah at least once. Mourning Elijah had become a way of life for Dom, and for the meantime he'd been okay with that. Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all, and all that shit.

As hard as Billy had tried, he couldn't get off work that day. Billy knew that Dom needed his support on the "anniversary", but there was really nothing he could do about it. "I'll be fine," Dom reassured him, "I'm not going to off myself or anything. I got through last year, I'll get through it this year." So Billy had left.
Dom couldn't just sit at home, however. He had to get out of the house, had to distract himself. He looked through the clothes in his closet - what to wear, what to wear. Then he saw it. It was perfect, a subtle expression of grief that no one would understand but him.
He didn't realize that he'd meet a fan while he was out that day. He never knew that people all over the world would speculate about this event for months to come. Dom was completely oblivious to all these things as he meandered around downtown with Elijah on his mind and "Princess" on his shirt.

Dom trudged back to the house with two shopping bags in each hand and one between his teeth. He scolded himself for acting like his mother and going on a shopping spree to ease the pain. He shifted the bags from his right hand to his overstuffed left while he dug in his pocket for the house key.
Suddenly, he heard the phone ring from inside the house. Dom's heart leapt into his throat as he threw the bags down onto the gravel. He searched frantically for his keys, jammed the key home, twisted the lock. Dom sprinted to the living room and snatched up the phone.
"Hello?!", he breathed.
"Dom? It's.. it's me. It's Elijah."
