Condoms for the Soul
By Leli

They say that no man is an island.
Billy’s always been something of an island.
Maybe it’s his past, maybe not.
He’s always had friends. And girls. Sometimes not-girls.
And now even a surrogate family of sorts.
But still through a transparent shield.
He thinks of it as a sort of condom for the soul.
Everything feels almost real, but he’s still safe.
The impact of a loss won’t destroy him, never again.
“A rock feels no pain and an island never cries.”
Dom rolls over lazily, wraps one arm possessively around Billy’s waist and buries his head on Billy’s chest.
His hair is sticking up in ridiculous angles and last night’s eyeliner is smudged.
Billy thinks maybe he’d done with being an island.
