Sean stared at the small life in his arms. He stroked the small head and then put a finger in the small hand. Tears filled his eyes as he glanced over at a very tired and thoroughly exhausted Christine. Sean smiled at her. “Chris…”

Chris looked at him. “What Sean?”

Sean was taken aback by the snippy tone but attributed it to exhaustion. “She’s beautiful, Chris…”

“Good.”

Christine didn’t say anything again. Sean turned his back on her and talked to the newest person in his life. Alexandria Louise Astin. The most beautiful little girl he’d ever seen. Sean smiled and rubbed her tiny hand and kissed her forehead. “You’re so beautiful, Ali. So beautiful…”

(---)

Billy looked at Sean as he talked quietly, head buried into Billys’ chest. Billy stroked his hair. “You don’t have to talk…”

“I know, but I want to…”

Billy nodded. “I’m here, I’m listening.”

“I thought it was just because she was exhausted but…”

(---)

Christine glared as their three-year-old daughter crawled into the bed and curled into Sean. “Daddy? I had a nightmare.”

Sean forced himself awake and pulled Ali closer. “Come here sweetie. What’s wrong?”

Christine sighed. “Sean, can you take it somewhere else? Some of us are trying to sleep.”

Sean sighed and picked up Ali. “Monsters under the bed?” Ali shook her head as he positioned her on his hip and grabbed his pillow. He walked out of the room, carrying her. “In the closet?” She shook her head. “Just a general scary dream?”

She nodded and laid her head on his shoulder. He tossed his pillow on her twin bed and sat down on it. “Want me to sleep with you?”

She nodded and kissed his cheek. He lay down, hugging her tight. She nuzzled him as he pulled the Barbie blanket over the both of them he sighed and kissed her forehead.

(---)

Billy kissed Seans’ forehead. “So, she didn’t care about Ali?”

“Yeah, I thought maybe…I don’t know what I thought. I just, I don’t know…”

“You didn’t want it to be like your parents.”

“I think that’s it. So I tried to make myself believe that she was just irritable when she would snap at Ali. I never noticed that she wouldn’t hold her or talk to her or anything like that…”

“Which is why you got…”

“Elizabeth.”

(---)

Sean smiled when Christine told him the news of a second child. Words couldn’t express how excited and happy he was. He already decided if it was a girl he would want to name it Elizabeth. Possibly Elizabeth Louise Astin. He walked around on cloud freaking nine for the next seven months. With Two Towers promos and a baby on the way, life couldn’t get much better could it?

Elizabeth came and she was just like her sister. Beautiful. Ali loved her just as much as Sean did. Ali loved to play with her new sister, loved to hold her when Sean would let her. Christine acted the same way with Elizabeth as she had with Ali.

(---)

“So,” Sean began slowly. “Now I’m stuck here, and just like my father and mother, I’m divorced.”

Billy stroked Seans’ back. “But you have Ali and Elizabeth…and isn’t it for the best?”

“I don’t have anyone who loves me.”

Billy closed his eyes and kissed Seans’ forehead. “You have me…”

Sean looked at Billy and kissed him on impulse, forgetting everything.

(---)

Ali and Elizabeth both looked at their father like he had three heads. “Daddy?” Ali began.

“Yeah, Ali?”

“Do you love Uncle Billy?”

“I think so.”

Sean crouched down to their level. “I think so, Ali. We both love you and if this bothers you…”

“No, it’s just…we miss Mommy.”

Sean wrapped them both in his arms. “I’m sorry. I am. I am really sorry…”

They both cuddled into him. Billy stood off to the side, watching, wondering what to do. Finally Elizabeth looked at Billy. “Un’l ‘illy!”

Billy smiled and knelt down, putting the young girls between him and Sean. Elizabeth turned and cuddled Billy. Billy smiled at Sean and kissed him. “I love you Sean.”
