Title: Follow Through
Author: Me, Katie
Rating: PG-13, I suppose...mostly for language of the 4 letter word kind.
Warnings: This is fluff to the extreme, and I'd be stretching the truth if I said there was angst in here.
Pairing: Domlijah
Summary: Oh, this is the start of something good, don't you agree?
Feedback: Sure, that would be great
Disclaimer: This is all lies, lies I tell you!!!
A/N: I guess this is sorta like my official introduction. Hi, I'm Katie, and I've just recently become obsessed with lotr and the actor boys of lotr, specifically Dom, Billy, and Elijah. I got bored one night, found this community, and have been happily reading things from it ever since. Then I got this plot bunny in my head, and it was a very persistant one. A couple weeks later, we have this story. This fic is a lot of firsts for me. First lotrps, first Domlijah, first story written in a long time...I could go on, but I won't bore you. This is unbeta'ed, for a multitude of reasons. The title for this is was taken from a Gavin Degraw song of the same name. The summary is a line from the song. Otherwise, the song has nothing to do with the fic, it just reminds me of it. And I'm horrible with both titles and summaries. Just thought I'd clear that up in case people were expecting something that wasn't going to be there. And, I guess that's it. Hope you like it. :-)

The first thing Dominic realized when he became coherent enough to form a thought was that he was in a bed, and he wasn’t alone. A warm body was pressed up against his, and Dom’s right arm was slung over their naked torso. He knew this only because he could feel his right arm absorbing some heat from their body. As he gradually woke up more, he opened his eyes a bit and found he was staring into short brown hair. Short brown hair that was spiked this way and that. A smile lazily rolled its way onto Dom’s face as he realized who he was in bed with, and he closed his eyes to return to the previous night’s events.

The past few months had been increasingly...tormenting for Dom. He had realized he loved one of his closest friends, and not just in a platonic way, either. That gave him a lot of issues to work through. First off, he was a male, and Elijah was a male, and Dom had thought he was straight. Well, this realization blew that out of the water. Also, Elijah was one of his closest friends, one he spent a good amount of time with. When they weren’t working together, they were usually out clubbing, or drinking in a pub, or doing something at one of the cast members houses. It was always one of those, because Elijah hated being alone, and Dom was never be one to turn down a bit of fun. Sometimes it was a good portion of the Fellowship. A lot of the time it was the Hobbits, sometimes accompanied by Orlando. Lately, it had become just Elijah and Dom. They usually either went to a pub and got incredibly drunk, or stayed at Elijah’s. For Dom, it was the most wonderful thing and the most frustrating thing all at once. He loved spending time with Elijah, doing whatever. It honestly didn’t matter, he just loved to be near him. What was difficult was that whenever he was near him, Dom’s mind began to wander into places where it probably shouldn‘t wander when Elijah was around. He would think about what it would be like to caress Elijah’s cheek, to touch his lips to Elijah’s oh so softly, to feel Elijah’s tongue stroke over his, to feel the heat of Elijah’s cock in his hands, in his mouth. To make Elijah scream his name. Dom didn’t really mind the thoughts, he just didn’t see how he could explain to Elijah why he got an erection every time they were together. He often imagined how that conversation would go.

“Dom, you okay? You look like you got a little problem there.”

“Oh yes Elijah, well, I’m just thinking about how great it would be to shag you into the mattress because, you know, I fancy you.”

*Elijah runs from the room, screaming*

No no, that wouldn’t do at all. So when his thoughts began to go south, he thought about puppies and Christmas and his mother and Sean and PJ. Thankfully, it quieted his emotions. For a while. After a few weeks, he was thinking about Elijah all the time, no matter where he was or who he was with. He would stroke himself off every night, and sometimes in the mornings. Always he would imagine it was Elijah’s hand touching him. He even began to dream about Elijah, sometimes in platonic situations, but usually they were far from platonic. Unless, of course, you considered straddling a naked Elijah while he was handcuffed to your bed and making him beg to have you touch him a platonic kind of thing. Dom’s thoughts began to lead down other paths as well, ones where there was just kissing and cuddling, and sometimes lovemaking on their favorite beach where they would always go surfing. He began to notice little things, like how Elijah always bit down his thumbnails first before moving on to the other fingers. How Elijah’s smell was a mixture of soap and cigarette smoke and laundry detergent. How his eyes changed color, depending on his mood and how tired he was. Sure, they were always that icy, entrancing blue, but Dom found that the more tired or drunk he was, the darker they seemed to get. It was fucking sexy to Dom. Everything about Elijah was sexy.

The moment Billy said something to him was the moment Dom realized this wasn’t just a silly little crush any more. It was during Feet one morning, while Dom was rambling on and on about the cd they were listening to, because you know, it came from Elijah and Elijah said he loved it and I was a bit skeptical but I gave it a spin one dreary afternoon and wouldn’t you know, it was a great record. Elijah has great tastes in music sometimes.

And Dom remembered Billy looked at him and said, “Ye fancy him, doan’t ye?”

Billy was never one to say things outright, unless it was obvious, so Dom knew then that he was in deeper than he had thought.

He recognized what he had to do. Consequences be damned, he needed to tell Elijah. He was positive Elijah didn’t feel the same way, and knew he’d probably ruin their friendship, but he didn’t know how much more he could take until he reached the breaking point. He wasn’t sure what that breaking point was, but he could feel something stirring inside him, almost like a pot ready to boil over. He needed to tell him.

It was for this reason that Dom had so readily agreed to go back to Elijah’s house and watch a movie with him. The Hobbits and Orlando had all been out to a pub drinking, but it wasn‘t that late, and Elijah still had a lot of energy left. Orlando had politely declined, eyeing a blonde from across the room that he would probably become acquainted with before the night was over. Sean said he needed to get home to Christine and Ali. Billy was close to sleeping already. So it was just Dom and Elijah, then. Dom grinned as he and Elijah walked the 3 blocks to Elijah’s place.

Dom hadn’t had much to drink, so he was only slightly buzzed. The alcohol made him feel a bit more confident, though. He was ready to do this. He’d just tell Elijah he needed to talk to him, and tell him calmly he loved him…and walk towards the door as Elijah screamed at him to get out. Or however it happened, Dom would end up leaving, and would probably go back to the pub to drink himself into a stupor.

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. Dom hadn’t really thought it through. Is it better to have known unrequited love, or unknown? As Dom sat down on Elijah’s comfy couch, he figured that it might be better to keep this secret to himself. If he didn’t know how Elijah truly felt, there was always a bit of hope that his feelings could be reciprocated. If Dom laid his feelings out there, Elijah could shatter them into a million pieces. Suddenly Dom wasn’t feeling so confident about the situation. He decided that he should hold off until...sometime later. Just not now, now was not a good time.

Elijah had put a movie in and had plopped down on the couch next to Dom. Dom could feel the heat radiating off of Elijah’s skin, tempting him to move closer and let their arms touch. Dom resisted the temptation very well, until Elijah moved closer to him and rested his head on Dom’s shoulder. Dom stiffened up for a split second, half in shock, half in panic, and then relaxed as he began to revel in the contact with Elijah. He glanced down at Elijah, and saw those icy blue eyes staring into his.

“Is this okay, Dommie?” Elijah asked.

Dom questioned in return, “What, this?” as he gestured to Elijah’s head resting on his shoulder.

“No, the movie. I know we’ve probably both seen it hundreds of times, but I‘m feeling nostalgic right now. Is it okay?” he questioned again.

Dom looked at the television screen and saw the opening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail playing. He nodded and looked back at Elijah. “This is absolutely wonderful, Lij.”

“Good.” Elijah did what could only be described as nuzzling Dom’s shoulder, and turned his eyes back to the movie. Dom started by watching the movie as well, but eventually his eyes drifted down to the shock of short brown hair resting comfortably on his shoulder. He could easily bury his nose in Elijah’s hair right now, something he’d been wanting to do for a long time. Dom knew that’d be a little strange coming from him, so he let his eyes roam down the side of Elijah’s face, to the curve of his neck, to his skinny arm wrapped in a tee shirt above the elbow. He then moved down Elijah’s arm to his hand and long, slender fingers, which Dom realized were situated very close to his thigh. He heard Elijah giggle, and flashed his eyes back up to watch Elijah’s face light up as he did so. He loved hearing Elijah’s giggle, it was so unique to him, and so infectious to those around him.

“Dom?” Elijah asked suddenly, breaking Dom’s train of thought.

Dom replied, “What?”

Elijah pushed himself away from Dom and to a sitting position. Dom held back a small sigh at the loss of contact. “Do you...can you...are you going to stay here tonight?”

It seemed like, to Dom, Elijah didn’t want him to stay, and he was just being polite. Dom felt a bit crestfallen, but he tried not to show it. “I…well, I was thinking ‘bout it, but I don’t have to, if you want, I can take a ca...”

Elijah cut him off, “No, no!! I want you to stay here. I was just...oh, never mind. It’s stupid.”

Dom looked at Elijah and said honestly, “There are very few things you’ve said to me that have been stupid, Lij...except for that time you told me I ‘didn’t sound very British‘.”

Elijah looked at him from across the couch, his face turning into a mixture of shock and embarrassment. “I was drunk!! Why do you always have to bring that up?”

“Because I can, and it’s funny as hell,” Dom replied, giving Elijah a cheeky grin. “Anyway, whatever you have to tell me, Lij, say it. It’s not going to be stupid.”

“Well, it’s more of a question, really, I guess. I...well...we...oh bloody hell.” Elijah took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a second.

Dom reached out to touch Elijah’s knee. Elijah jumped when Dom made contact. “You’re really starting to scare me here, Elijah. Just, out with it already.”

“Okay...how do you feel about me?”

Dom looked at Elijah like he had just grown another head. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out how he could still tell the truth and not actually tell the truth. “What? That’s all you wanted to ask me? Well, you know I love you Lij. I mean, you’re like my best friend. You are my best friend.” Dom thought he saw a flash of disappointment in Elijah’s eyes. ‘No no,’ he tried to convince himself. ‘That’s what you want to see, he’s probably overjoyed, bloody wanker.’

“Are...are you sure that’s it? Just best friend?” Elijah asked.

Dom tried to nod, but couldn’t get his head to move. Thankfully, Elijah’s question seemed to be rhetorical, because he kept talking. “Because...I, I love you Dom,” Elijah stammered. “I think you’re gorgeous and you’re witty and intelligent and I love your British accent and your hair and the way you can always make me laugh and...”Elijah suddenly froze and covered his hand with his mouth. “Oh god. I...I can’t believe I just fucking said all that. I...” Elijah leapt off the couch and ran into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.

Dom stared at the spot on the couch Elijah had just been sitting on. Dom noted that Elijah’s couch was a nice blue color, much darker that his eyes, but definitely not as beautiful. As his brain processed the events that had just unfolded, one thought ran through his mind.

“What the fuck happened?” Dom hadn’t planned on saying that out loud, but he heard himself mumble it, nonetheless.

One minute, he was watching Elijah giggle at the men galloping around making sound effects with coconuts. The next minute, Elijah had declared his love for Dom, had gotten embarrassed, and fled to his bedroom. It wasn’t how Dom had imagined things at all. His best case scenario was that he would tell Elijah, they would kiss, and either cuddle or fuck like mad. Whichever worked out best for Lij. Then eventually he was hoping for a few rose petals, some candles, maybe some soft music. Dom was, after all, a romantic sap deep down in his gut, just like Elijah. Elijah teased him about it at times, but Dom teased him right back, calling him a girl and quoting Elijah’s answers to romance questions from various interviews. Dom had them memorized. Elijah never seemed to think there was anything weird about that.

A sound from Elijah’s bedroom shook Dom from his thoughts. It was something between a sob and a sigh, and it took Dom a minute to realize Elijah was still in there, and the sound probably came from him.

That was when Dom began to laugh.

He laughed at the absurdity of the situation, at how irrational Elijah was, and at how slow he was in processing things. He laughed because all this could’ve been avoided had he given in to the urge to snog Elijah senseless once or twice. He laughed because he was completely clueless as to how Elijah felt, and actually thought Lij only liked him as a friend. He laughed because Elijah thought the same things of him.

Dom decided something needed to be done about that last part. He fumbled for the DVD remote on the coffee table, found it successfully after knocking over the movie case and a stack of cds, and shut off the movie. He then stood up and stretched briefly before padding his way over to the entrance to Elijah’s bedroom.

He rapped his knuckles softly against the wooden door and called, “Doodle, you still in there?” ‘That was a dumb-arse question if I ever heard one, you twit,’ Dom chided himself. There was no answer from within the room.

Dom knocked again, this time a bit harder. “Lijah, can I please talk to you?”

“Just go home Dom, I understand. It’s okay, I’ll be fine,” Dom heard through the door. Dom almost snorted at that, and decided to forget being invited in. He turned the knob, hoping Elijah had kept the door unlocked. Thankfully he had, so Dom successfully pushed the door open and stepped into Elijah’s room. Elijah was curled up in a ball at the head of his bed, his face buried in his pillow. Dom took a few steps closer to Elijah.

“Lij...” Dom started.

“Don’t start, Dom, I don’t want to hear it,” Elijah answered, his face still buried.

Dom stared at Elijah and questioned, “Hear what?”

Elijah sighed and replied, “Whatever you have to say. I don’t want to hear you to say that you’re sorry, but you don’t feel that way. I don’t want you to make me feel better because you pity me, or tell me that there are plenty of people better then you or that I’ll find the one someday or some other cliché shit like that. It’s better if you just leave me here and let me wallow in my own self-pity until the morning.”

Dom sat down on the bed next to Elijah and tentatively rested his hand on Elijah’s back. When Elijah didn’t protest , he began to run his hand along the curve of Elijah’s spine, trying to relax him.

“Elijah, I’m not going to leave. I’m not going to pity you or give you any “cliché shit” like you said. I’m going to tell you the truth. But, I’m not going to tell it to your arse, or the back of your head, so if you’d sit up and look at me, that’d be great.”

Elijah slowly uncurled himself from the ball he had been in, and sat up to face Dom. Dom saw the hint of a smile tugging at the corners of Elijah’s mouth, although there were a few unshed tears brimming his eyelids.

Dom smiled at Elijah and took a breath. “I told you that you were my best friend, which is true. There are a lot of things I forgot to tell you, though. Left out, for, well, my own convenience.” He took another breath and impulsively reached for Elijah’s hand, which was resting on the bed between them. His fingers laced themselves between Elijah’s, and he smiled at the sight of it.

Dom lifted his head to look at Elijah once more, and continued, “I need to tell you now, though, because you told me the much more than you were planning on. It was all true though, I hope.”

Elijah nodded silently, and Dom kept going, “It’s only fair now that I tell you. I...well, I’ve loved you for months Lijah. I think about you all the time, I even dream about you. I think you’re absolutely brilliant, I could get lost in your eyes for hours, I love the way you giggle at everything, I’ve been wanting to snog you silly for the longest time, and I don’t understand how you don’t have a girlfriend or boyfriend or anything because I think you’re one of the most gorgeous men I’ve ever seen and I know if I had my way you’d be mine in an instant.”

Elijah had been looking down at their intertwined hands, but with this last comment he snapped his head up and said, “I already am yours, Dommie. I’ve been yours for a long time, I just never said it, so you never knew it.” He reached out with his free hand and cupped Dom’s cheek. Dom turned his face and kissed Elijah‘s palm softly. Elijah’s eyes became a bit wider and he asked, “Do you really mean it? All of what you just said?”

“Every word, love. I actually was going to tell you how I felt about you tonight, but then I didn’t because I’m a bloody idiot and I didn’t want you to reject me,” Dom replied. “Which really was unfortunate, because if I would’ve said something, we could’ve done this much sooner.”

Elijah began to ask, “What?”, but was stopped by Dominic’s lips on his. Elijah opened his mouth slightly, allowing Dom to slide his tongue into Elijah’s mouth. Dom began to explore Elijah’s mouth as his free hand caressed Elijah’s cheek. His other hand was still locked with Elijah’s, and he could feel the pad of Elijah’s thumb slowly stroking the back of Dom’s hand. Elijah’s free hand was tangled in the small curls at the back of Dom’s neck. As they pulled apart, both breathless, Elijah began to giggle.

“What’s so funny?” Dom asked, his hand still stroking Elijah’s cheek.

“We are really stupid, aren’t we?” Elijah stated more than questioned.

Dom grinned and nodded. “You bet we are, a regular pair of idiots. Can’t see something that’s right in front of our noses.” Elijah pulled Dom in for another kiss, and ended up pulling Dom on top of him. Their lips came together again and as Elijah’s velvety smooth tongue worked its way over Dom’s, Dom realized he had just gotten everything he had ever wanted. Dom broke the kiss and rested his head in the crook of Elijah’s neck, attempting to catch his breath. After a moment he left a butterfly kiss on Elijah’s neck and lifted his head up.

“I love you Lijah, so much.”

“Dom, I love you too. God, do I love you.”

Dom rolled off of Elijah and laid his head on Elijah’s chest while Elijah ran his fingers through Dom’s hair. It was the first time Dom had felt content in years.

Soon after that, they stripped to their boxers and cuddled under the blankets. They stayed up until the early hours of the morning, opting to switch between talking and making out like teenagers. Lij fell asleep first, snoring lightly, and soon after Dom tightened his grip on Elijah and drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

Dom felt a soft kiss on his shoulder and his eyes fluttered open for an instant before closing again.

“Lij?” he muttered groggily.

Another kiss, up by his collarbone this time.

He felt hot breath by his neck, followed by a series of butterfly kisses to his neck, chin, and finally his lips. “Good morning Dommie. Sleep well?”

Dom finally got enough willpower to open his eyes and keep them open. He saw Elijah’s face grinning at him, and replied, “Yes love, very well.” He pressed a kiss to Elijah’s forehead. “How about you?”

“Best I’ve slept in months. You want coffee?” Elijah asked making a move to get up.

Dom put his hands on Elijah‘s waist and pulled his back down. “Not if it involves you moving from this bed, no,” Dom answered. “Let’s stay here a little longer, okay?”

“Okay,” Elijah murmured. He snuggled up to Dom and rested his hands on Dom’s chest. Dom took one of Elijah’s hands and intertwined Elijah’s fingers with his own yet again.

I don’t think I’ll ever like the look of my hand alone ever again,” Dom commented as he began to feel sleep overtaking him. Elijah responded with a snore, making Dom chuckle.

“Love you too Lij,” Dom whispered, and he was blanketed with sleep once more.
