Author's Notes: second time ever posting here, still a little nervous. i don't use capitals because i'm lazy like that. otherwise, happy reading.

dom never puts the salt back in its place. he invited elijah over to dinner for the first time with his parents and they had chicken. elijah looked at the middle of the table: candles, ketchup, pepper...no salt. "could someone pass me the salt, please?" he said politely, not knowing where it was. dom picked it up right where he had left it - next to his plate - and passed it to him. this happened at every dinner they had together. and not just dinners; whenever he would look for the salt in the kitchen, it was never where it was supposed to be and never in the same place. "why don't you ever put the salt back where you're supposed to?" he asked one day out of frustration.

dom shrugged. "it never occurs to me. why does it bother you?"

the truth was, it didn't. sure, every time he wanted the salt, elijah had to search for it or ask for it and then when he was done, put it back where it was supposed to be. it always annoyed the crap out of him, and every time he reached to put it back where it belonged he loved dom even more.

elijah adds chocolate to his hot chocolate. they entered a small coffee shop and dom ordered some impossibly long title of a coffee, while elijah opted for hot chocolate, no whipped cream. they set their drinks on the countertop that had all the extra goodies you could put into it- cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, you name it. as dom reached for cinammon, elijah reached for chocolate. dom watched him, perplexed, as he sprinkled a layer of chocolate into the top of his drink before neatly setting the container back. "you add chocolate to your hot chocolate?" dom inquired one day as they sat down at their usual booth near the window. elijah looked at him while taking his first sip.

"yeah," he stated simply.

"it's a little redundant, don't you think? the drink already has chocolate in it."

elijah shrugged. "gives it a bit of a kick, i guess. why does it bother you?"

the truth was, it didn't.
