Title: soulmates. (1/1)
Author: claire.
_chalcedony (whee i learned how to do that)
Pairing: dom/billy
Rating: uhm...pg13 for swearing, i guess. there's not even much of that.
Disclaimer: all fiction. i am not making any money from this, it only keeps me entertained.
Summary: dom and billy are soulmates.
Author's Notes: this is my first fic that i've ever posted anywhere, so please don't hurt me. i didn't have a beta but i don't think there are many (if any) mistakes. i also don't use capitals because i'm lazy like that. but all grammar aside, it was really the idea behind the story that was more important to me, so. have at it.
Feedback: not mandatory, but please be kind.
dom knew that something was wrong.
dom didn't love billy. well, correction: of course he loved billy, he loved billy like all friends love each other, like brothers love each other. but he wasn't in love with billy. he at first passed this off as normal, because he was a guy who most definetely liked girls, and billy was also a guy who most definetely liked girls, and it was weird to want your best friend like that.
but ever since the day they met, dom always thought that maybe he should.
the reason for this feeling that he could never explain suddenly hit him in new york. dom had gotten a hotel suite for the duration of the filming of his new movie, and billy was staying with him for awhile before he returned back to scotland. dom was sitting in his bedroom reading old articles that he always kept with him. the popularity of the lord of the rings always amazed him, so he tried to get as many articles as possible because he liked to read what they had all said about it, what they were saying now; he found it interesting.
he was reading some articles about himself and billy, and in them dom was going off about how billy constantly fascinated him, or how billy was going to be the godfather of his children, etc, etc. dom suddenly realized that ever since the two of them became really good friends, whenever they talked about the future they just assumed that each other would be in it. dom knew, and billy knew it too, but dom knew, that he and billy were going to spend the rest of their lives together, he always had.
dom's hands let go of the small article and it fell to the bed with a flutter while dom involuntarily doubled over, as if some invisible weight was pulling on his heart.
he and billy were soulmates, he realized.
billy had been sitting in the living/dining room reading when dom finally shuffled into the room. billy didn't even look up, just mumbled something of a good morning.
"i don't love you," dom said. it came out as more of a confession than a declaration. billy closed his book and looked quizzically over at dom who was still standing in the entrance to the hallway.
"what?"
"i don't love you." he repated, moving himself into the room further and sitting down on the couch opposite billy. dom didn't really know what he was doing, but he felt like he had to tell billy. he had to get this out. "i don't mean, i don't mean i don't love you. i love you like a brother, is what i mean. but i'm not in love with you. that's what i mean to say. i'm not in love with you."
billy laughed. "well, that's good, dom, because i'm not in love you either. got a lovely girlfriend back in scotland waiting for me that i love." he paused. dom was looking at him with a sad expression on his face, like there was something more. "is that all this is about?"
dom sighed a shaky breath. "billy, i think we're soulmates."
"soulmates?"
"soulmates."
"of course we're soulmates, dom." dom's eyes shot up, wildly confused. billy said that so passively, so conversationally, like it was a normal thing to say.
"bill?"
"of course we're soulmates, you and me," he repeated. "what, did you just figure that out now?"
"but i don't love you!" dom cried indignantly. he was getting frustrated, his eyes starting to glisten wetly. "you're supposed to love your soulmate! you're supposed to find them and fall madly in love with them and then figure out that they're your soulmate and then spend the rest of your life with them. fuck, billy, if we're soulmates, we skipped a step!"
billy scooted closer and smiled at dom softly. "no dom, you've got it all wrong."
"what? i have?"
"look. soulmates are forever, right? i don't mean forever like in one lifetime, i mean forever. right? two souls so right for each other that they can't be apart. they're constantly reborn and they're constantly finding each other and staying together. yeah?"
"something like that, i guess."
"well, you're muddling it all up with the love part. just because someone is your soulmate doesn't mean that you have to fall in love with them. it means that you're destined to spend the rest of your life with them."
"but i-"
"and it's not like we don't love each other, dom. i mean, i love my girlfriend, i love her a lot. but that love is different than ours. our bond is stronger, it's- i can't even explain it. there's like this magnetic pull between us, you and i have both felt it ever since the day we met. we're so right together. like you said, dom, we're soulmates. we love each other, but not in the way you think soulmates should. we love each other and we're going to be in each other's lives forever."
dom felt a single tear slide down his cheek, and 6 seconds later felt billy wiping it away with his thumb, and 10 seconds after that felt billy's lips on his, a quick kiss to reassure him, calm him down, a friendly i love you kiss. but in that kiss dom felt a love that echoed centuries ago, a love that echoed off of the stars and into eternity.
billy smiled a sad smile when he pulled away because he had felt it too. "maybe in our next life, dom."
dom finally smiled, the first time that morning. the weight had been lifted off of his heart and his shoulders, and he playfully nudged billy. "yeah, well you better not be some soddy old minx when i find you. we'll need some real shagging to make up for the lack of it in this life."
billy laughed.
somewhere in the distance a star twinkled in anticipation.
