Feedback: Commentcommentcommentpleeeease? *bats eyelids* :) Constructive criticism welcomed, as this is a first attempt at anything in the form of writing. :D
Notes: for [livejournal.com profile] dorrie6 and [livejournal.com profile] jacito, who are super betas and friends and who continue to write better fic than i could ever possibly dream of doing. :) Also, sorry for the cross-post.

<lj-cut text="brace yoselves.">
for the fourth time, a shaft of sunlight creeps into his vision and slowly fades again.

he seems to sleep through the days easily enough. the nights exhaust him, stretching on for what could be days or even months, and accompanied by an unbearable ache deep down in his chest that even crying has failed to fix.

sometimes it's bitter and piercing, forcing his breathing to become ragged and the tears to flow, his face burning into the pillow. and other times, it's a dull, cavernous, empty pain that expands and engulfs him, filling the dom-shaped void and dragging him downwards until eventually, usually at dawn, he sinks irresistibly under and into dreamless slumber.

the twilights are the worst, however, as he resurfaces, groggy and chilled, and still in a dazed state of wakening gropes blindly across for sheets and substance and warmth.

it's this action that completes the emptiness, as he realises the sheets are twisted around his ankles and his fingers find nothing but cold mattress.
