Chapter Seventeen - Plans

Viggo stood waiting for Elijah, knowing the young man had just been to see Dominic in the room below. He could nearly feel the blind panic and despair flowing out of him as Elijah’s normally bright but now dull blue eyes regarded him. He resisted the urge to take him in his arms and comfort him, but this was not the time or place for that. He had just spent the last twenty minutes with a hysterical Christine. They finally had to give her an injection to calm her down. Little Ally was staying with Christine’s mother.
“Come with me.” he said simply. Elijah nodded and followed him back into the tiny stuffy room. Once inside, Elijah broke down.
“It’s over. It’s all over. They’re going to send him away forever! How can I go on without him Viggo? I can’t! I can’t!” he cried.
“Elijah, stop, calm down…there is a way…but you have to trust me!”
“No…I can’t…no one can help us now.”
“Listen, you’re going to go with Orlando. He’s going to take you to Altrincham. You’ll have to stay there until I can get Dominic out.”
“How? How are you going to get him out?”
Viggo didn’t know the answer to his question yet. He knew there was a way, but it was very dangerous.
“I will though, I will. Please trust me Elijah. Go with Orlando, get out of Manchester. I’ll send for you when Dom is out, and you can be together again.”
Elijah looked at the man who had performed the ceremony to link himself and Dom for life. Dom trusted this man implicitly.
He looked out the window, feeling the knot at the base of his throat.
“But Viggo, I promised to follow him wherever he went…”
“You cannot follow him now. Please trust me, I will find a way for you to be together again.”
Elijah felt himself nod, knowing that the last thing he wanted to do was leave. He couldn’t stay with Christine. She knew, but even in all her panic and grief she had not revealed his secret. He was forced to trust her further, but he knew he couldn’t go back to their home.
“I’ll go.” He said numbly.
“Good. Orlando is outside. He’ll take you to Altrincham. He’ll get you out of the city before anyone can possibly find out the truth about you and Dom.”
“And what happens if they do, Viggo?”
Viggo looked down at the young man and took a deep breath.
“Then God help us all.”

Orlando drove in silence, occasionally glancing at the sleeping form of Elijah Wood. He could easily see why Dom had fallen so hard for this angelic creature. Elijah’s fingers were curled tightly around one of Dominic’s shirts, his head leaning against the window. Orlando sighed. He cursed Sean for killing Billy. He still couldn’t believe Billy was dead. How had everything gone so wrong so quickly? One minute they’re defending their rights to live and love whom they wanted to in this town, and the next minute Dom falls in love with the enemy. But Elijah wasn’t the enemy. No one was the enemy anymore. Sean was gone.
He looked up at the night sky as the car took them closer and closer to Altrincham. The bright stars swirled above them, and Orlando prayed to God that Viggo found a way for Dominic and Elijah to be together.
~
The next morning, Viggo stood at the door and looked at the crushed and defeated form of Dominic Monaghan. His status as a priest had granted him entrance, though he loathed the title.
“Dom.” he called. Dom’s head lifted and he stared at Viggo blankly.
“He’s gone.”
“Yes, I sent him away.”
Dominic sighed heavily.
“It’s for the best. I’ve fucked up his life so much already. He’s better off without me.”
Viggo’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Fuck that!” he hissed. Dom’s lifeless eyes met his in question.
“You stupid fuck! Elijah loves you! And you sit here, feeling sorry for yourself like an arsehole!”
“It’s because I love him that I know he’s better off without me! Just leave Viggo! Leave me here to rot…” Dom whispered.
“Get off your arse Monaghan, before I come in there and haul you to your feet!”
Suddenly Dom stood up, glaring at Viggo.
“You and your plans! Look where it got us!”
Viggo smiled. This was the Dominic he knew. The defeated, broken man was gone.
“I have another plan. It’s a plan to get you out of here.”
Dom walked forward and frowned.
“What are you talking about, you crazy old git?”
Viggo grinned again.
“I’m talking about this.” he held up a tiny vial filled with blue liquid. Dom eyed Viggo in confusion.
“You’ve lost your mind. Go away, leave me alone.”
“No. This is the only way Dominic. Elijah is waiting for you! Either take this and join him or sit here and rot. Your choice.”
An image of Elijah waiting for him with outstretched arms filled Dom’s mind. Elijah, in his arms, kissing him, loving him. Elijah’s body poised above him, eyes locked with his, moving deep inside him.

Dominic shuddered and reached for the vial.
